Really trippy game ha good thing for the map I would get lost
I have named a beaver "Slam Hamson" because of a chrome basketball.
Whoever follows my reviews knows very well that my favorite devs are those who dare what nowadays has sadly become the impossible: coming up with something new, completely original, unique, never seen before. Those devs who have their own style, their own signature, which you can immediately recognize in all their games. Sad Mask Party is definitely one of these. I came to know this dev with Mango, a truly unique psychological horror game that immediately caught me with its bizarre and incredibly fascinating story telling, mixed with astonishing visuals that made my brain almost blow up. I followed the development of Mango from the very first demo levels until the explosive ending that made me litterally speechless, and in the meantime I had the luck to become good friends with its developer, and to discover that, besides an outstandingly talented artist, he is also a very sensitive and intelligent person. I have been wating for the release of Lotus Holidays since I played the demo a year ago, and I had no doubts it would have been another masterpiece. Although, as I played, I immediately recognized the unmistakable signature of Sad Mask Party, I also realized that this game is very different from Mango. I still prefer the latter for strictly personal reasons, but I am happy to say that Lotus Holidays undoubtedly made huge leaps forward compared to its predecessor: - the graphics are much more coherent, even though they still maintain a deliciously "artsy" style that continuously strikes the eyes of the player with crazy combinations of colors, shapes and surfaces, to the point that each single location feels like a painting inside which you have the honor to be able to move freely - the story is much more complex and much easier to follow, with different characters, branching choices, and even 7 (!) different endings that can be unlocked depending on the choices you made, the relationships you established, and most importantly your spirit of observation - and finally, but most importantly, the level design here is truly sublime, top notch; while Mango was completely straightforward, a corridor I might say, here you have a huge map that you gradually unlock as the story progresses, much like a Resident Evil map, so that you can still access previously visited areas as you keep discovering new ones; but there's more: some areas get unlocked only if you previously made certain choices and certain actions, thus adding another layer of deepness and complexity to the already astonishing world design This game has really A LOT to offer, much more than it may seem after your first playthrough, and that's the best part of it. The more you play, the more you master the intricated map, the more discoveries you make and the more secrets you unlock. This is exactly the formula that, combined with the gorgeous visuals and the fantastic music, makes this game a unique and unforgettable experience, much like its predecessor. This is NOT a common indie game, not at all. This is something special guys, trust me. In a giant dumpster full of soulless clones of the same exact games, repeated over and over again until nausea, this is a humble but incredibly shining hidden diamond. Don't lose the opportunity to discover it, because the birth of a game like this has become an awfully rare event nowadays. So, well... when it comes, enjoy it. Cheers guys!
Impressive blend of storyline and aesthetics. I'm always on edge because I have a vague idea of what is going on but I am never sure. If you miss the 90s style where narrative was the main point of the game, this is the game for you!
Absolutely incredible! This game has it all: a compelling plot full of twists that you won't see coming but they still make perfect sense for the narrative, stunningly artistic visuals, fun characters, interesting and challenging puzzles, my boy Lemon, and surprising scares. I've only got the first ending so far but I'm greatly looking forward to unlocking the remaining ones and fully piecing the puzzle together.
New game from creators of Mango. Surreal and abstract exploration masterpiece. This is 5/5 game. Multiple endings.
very cool and trippy although on a widescreen monitor you cant see the bottom dialogue option, a fix for that would be nice
ok enough for the main game with some detecting to be done and find stuff and maybe a secret or two, and with multiple endings. The end is bugged where you are supposed to laser the baddies but of course they can shoot you, your laser goes straight true them and you die. (This is consistent with the ones located at the first pool far edge, not the ones right inside the door or next to the left / right side edge) Also achievements are bugged. Its a no from me, especially with this long development time.
This first-person exploration game has a fairly linear structure to it. To say much about the story would spoil everything, but it did keep me interested. The environments are visually wild and striking, though the characters look like oldschool blow-up dolls; it's an interesting look, if nothing else. Just be aware that this one has quite a few different endings; might be a selling point for some, but I just find that kind of thing frustrating.
I really enjoyed the game and it was fun. It's not as trippy as its predecessor Mango, but it definitely has its charms. The maze was a bit difficult but definitely doable. All in all, I can only recommend it! Gönnt euch
