got a coupon for this game while i was trying to complete the steam ambassador thing idc bought it for like 30 cents and shocker! it sucks actual ass. i can't even beat the first level because of how the enemies have like 20 health with fire that shoots out, and you have like 5 health. AVOID.
The Lost Wizard, developed by Firestorm Entertainment and published by Conglomerate 5, is a small-scale indie fantasy adventure that blends light RPG progression with dungeon-based puzzle exploration. Framed around a classic good-versus-evil premise, the game follows the wizard Tibiothar as he attempts to reclaim his overrun castle from the Skeleton King and his undead forces. The narrative is rooted in familiar fantasy archetypes—a fallen stronghold, a dark ruler commanding skeletal minions, and a lone spellcaster seeking redemption—but the execution keeps the focus more on mechanical progression than deep storytelling. The structure of the game revolves around navigating a series of ten dungeons, each serving as a self-contained challenge filled with enemies, collectible gems, and magical upgrades. Rather than presenting a fast-paced action RPG, The Lost Wizard leans more heavily into methodical movement and tactical decision-making. Players must plan their approach carefully, especially when managing limited spell usage and navigating enemy placements. Each dungeon requires a combination of combat engagement and environmental interaction, reinforcing the idea that positioning and resource management are as important as raw magical power. Character progression is tied primarily to gem collection and spell acquisition. As players gather gems scattered throughout the dungeons, Tibiothar’s magical strength increases, unlocking new spells and improving existing abilities. Spellbooks hidden within levels further expand the wizard’s repertoire, providing incremental upgrades that enhance combat effectiveness. This growth system introduces a sense of forward momentum, even if the overall mechanical complexity remains modest. The gradual empowerment of the player character provides motivation to continue deeper into the castle’s increasingly difficult chambers. Visually, the game embraces a retro-inspired 2D sprite aesthetic. Environments are constructed with simple tile-based layouts, and character animations are straightforward rather than elaborate. The art style aims for nostalgic fantasy charm rather than visual sophistication. While some players may appreciate this minimalist approach, others may find the environments repetitive and lacking in distinct visual identity across the ten dungeon levels. Enemy designs, while thematically appropriate, do not vary extensively, which can make extended play sessions feel visually homogeneous. In terms of gameplay variety, The Lost Wizard remains consistent but limited. The core loop—explore dungeon, defeat enemies, collect gems, unlock stronger spells—does not evolve dramatically from stage to stage. While difficulty increases incrementally and enemy density rises, the fundamental mechanics stay largely unchanged. This consistency can be viewed in two ways: as a focused design that avoids overcomplication, or as a missed opportunity for deeper system expansion. Players seeking layered mechanics, branching skill trees, or dynamic combat systems may find the experience too restrained. Technical polish is another area where the game’s indie origins are evident. Controls function adequately, but responsiveness and interface clarity may not always meet modern expectations. Tutorials and guidance are minimal, requiring players to experiment and adapt through trial and error. This hands-off approach can add a sense of old-school challenge but may also lead to moments of confusion regarding objectives or spell usage. Despite its limitations, The Lost Wizard offers a complete and self-contained fantasy journey. The arc of reclaiming a corrupted castle, freeing an imprisoned ally, and confronting a skeletal tyrant provides a satisfying thematic resolution. The relatively short length ensures that the experience does not overstay its welcome, making it accessible for players looking for a brief dungeon-crawling diversion rather than a sprawling epic. Ultimately, The Lost Wizard stands as a modest indie fantasy experiment. It does not attempt to revolutionize the RPG or puzzle genres but instead delivers a compact adventure built around incremental magical growth and classic dungeon exploration. Its appeal lies primarily in its straightforward structure and retro aesthetic. For players who appreciate small-scale fantasy quests with simple mechanics and light tactical elements, it offers a brief but cohesive experience. For those expecting deep narrative immersion or expansive gameplay systems, it may feel too limited to sustain long-term engagement. Rating: 5/10
Looks like a (bad) school project. Everything from the UI, menus, dialogs and gameplay feels very cheap. I recognize a game in here, but it's missing months and months of polish.
bad
Probably one of the slowest game ever.. Moving around take ages, ennemies take 50hits to die and you deal 1 damage. So you have to shoot avoid shoot avoid etc... Then you need gems to progress ennemies drop gems but not all the time. The ammount of gems needed is stupid and you get 5 at the time. Level 3 requiere 50gems and in this level there's a power up but guess what.. you need 150 gems for it. Garbage stay away.
