About
"Is there a dead body who'd like to be buried in me?"
This is a coming-of-age adventure of a young boy who believes he's an ancient Japanese tomb!
In the city of Friendly, where the story takes place, many residents who are shaped like ancient terracotta clay figures belong to the Haniwa Clan.
Amid them lives a curious boy who is neither human nor Haniwa, but something entirely different… a child shaped like a tiny burial mound.
This boy is Kofun, the protagonist of this adventure.

Kofun has always dreamed of becoming a proper burial mound and one day meeting the body that will rest inside of him.
But despite his dream, he never quite had the courage to go out and search.
That all changed when one day, a spirited boy named Haniwa calls out to him and says, "Come play with me!"
And so...their story begins.

Will Kofun ever find the "perfect body" he's been hoping for?
Come to think of it...if he's neither human nor Haniwa...what even is he?
As you explore the world and meet its many residents, all the questions you and Kofun have will begin to unravel.
Through these encounters, he gradually discovers the truth about his origins.
Enjoy a story full of surprises, following Kofun and his friends through a heartfelt tale of friendship and growth.

In The Little Tomb, you will control the protagonist Kofun. The story begins when you explore the playground he lives in.
Wander through the town, examine objects, interact with the residents, and uncover the story bit by bit.
Every person you meet and every item you interact with helps move the narrative foward.
If something catches your eye, don't hesitate to take a closer look and see what you can reveal.

You can easily navigate through the main story using the handy dandy "To-Do List".
But the adventure doesn't stop there, feel free to stray off the path, hunt for hidden treasures, or explore areas unrelated to the main story as every detour is an opportunity for discovery.
Go through the story with Kofun at your own pace.

Kofun grows and develops by earning Action Points.
You gain Action Points every time Kofun interacts with the world by such as, examining objects, playing on playground equipment, and performing other activities.
Once you've gotten some Action Points, you can use them to get new skills or hints to help you solve puzzles you encounter along the way. Kofun is always learning!

Progress through the story and show Kofun a whole world of new experiences!
Let's head out on an adventure to search for a dead body!

So the premise of this game is that you're a living burial mound who is looking for a dead body to bury inside them. The trailer juxtaposes this premise with a cute story of Kofun, the main character, making their first friend, a haniwa child called Haniwa, in this beautiful park area that kind of brings to mind the likes of Eternal Egg or Fragrance Park in its design. Of course, I was intrigued - like, what the ♥♥♥♥ is this game? Some sort of abstract fairly tale or parable like Night on the Galactic Railroad? Something extremely strange and tonally clashing? Something darkly comedic? Turns out, it's none of those, it's a lot more straightforward and down-to-earth, but it is very well written. Gameplay-wise it's extremely linear for the most part, railroading you from one story beat to the next, but there is the exception of a couple of sidequests and a surprisingly large amount of flavor text - which incidentally fits in nicely with the story's central theme of personal growth, as Kofun's inner monologue gets more detailed and confident each time an object or location offers new insights. You don't really play it for the gameplay though. Or the visuals, which start out as striking before you realize most of the game's locations have that kind of generic Unity asset shop look that, say, Forklift Load does (as well as the park, the museum is a notably charming exception to this). You play it for the story, which is a genuinely great coming of age story that comes across as a mix of Keita Takahashi's more recent work and Millenium Kitchen's output. The writer not only has a seriously infectious passion for history, but has a professional grasp of how to handle dramatic story beats and twists and keep the player interested despite the game's linearity.
I did this review since the game doesn't have this many and I wanted to support the team who has made it. I enjoyed the game, but I think there are some things that could be improved: - During cutscenes, I think it would be helpful to add an option that will lock the dialogues without giving you the possibility to skip them (so you can only proceed after the characters have finished their entire sentence), I know there’s a full backlog of the chat during those scenes (and thanks for that), but sometimes I missclicked and interrupted the flow of those scenes, so I think it would be useful to have that option (obviously, you’ll be able to choose whether to enable it or not) for people like me who are dumb or simply just want to have a "fixed flow" of those conversations; - I think it would be good to change the colour of the icons you interact with (they're all green circles right now) to distinguish the "main ones" (the ones that make you go on with the story) from the "side ones" (the one that contains dialogue with details regarding japanese archaeology or simply details related to our characters that are not necessarily to know, but guys like me like to read), because sometimes it's not clear which ones will make you advance with the story (and skip the side ones), so in my run there's times where I happened to press the main ones, without me knowing it and skipped a few of those sides ones (maybe you could change the colour of the main ones into red circles idk;
"My dream is to one day find a perfect dead body for me and become a great tomb!" The game started strong with lines like the one above. The story follows Kofun as he discovers more about himself and the world around him in a more positive way thanks to his new friends. I thought it was cute, somewhat bittersweet, and the right mix of fun and weird. You get to learn about some real history and Haniwa (clay figures) in the process too. Although the translation had some typos, sometimes the text would go off the screen where I couldn't read it, and I had to lower the graphics settings, it was charming and I really enjoyed the whole experience. Overall, the game took me about 4 hours to finish and get all of the achievements.
