About
"Is there a dead body who'd like to be buried in me?"
This is a coming-of-age adventure of a young boy who believes he's an ancient Japanese tomb!
In the city of Friendly, where the story takes place, many residents who are shaped like ancient terracotta clay figures belong to the Haniwa Clan.
Amid them lives a curious boy who is neither human nor Haniwa, but something entirely different… a child shaped like a tiny burial mound.
This boy is Kofun, the protagonist of this adventure.

Kofun has always dreamed of becoming a proper burial mound and one day meeting the body that will rest inside of him.
But despite his dream, he never quite had the courage to go out and search.
That all changed when one day, a spirited boy named Haniwa calls out to him and says, "Come play with me!"
And so...their story begins.

Will Kofun ever find the "perfect body" he's been hoping for?
Come to think of it...if he's neither human nor Haniwa...what even is he?
As you explore the world and meet its many residents, all the questions you and Kofun have will begin to unravel.
Through these encounters, he gradually discovers the truth about his origins.

I wasn't quite sure what this game was, but the premise was just too odd for me to not give it a look. This game is a short and sweet adventure game, where you take control of a little tomb-shaped boy called Kofun. Kofun has lived alone in a small park/playground for as long as he can recall, until one day, Haniwa, a boy made out of clay, suddenly arrives and they become friends. From there you control Kofun as him and Haniwa explore other locations in their town, and meet new friends, in their quest to fulfill Kofun's dream of becoming a great tomb. As said above, it's a sweet, odd little story that I had a good time playing through. I wasn't expecting to learn so much about ancient Japanese funerary objects.
Very cute game and a good way to do some light Japanese study.
Really cute and surreal exploration game. JP voice by Akari Kito, a very famous voice actor. Simple stuff, walk around, do quests, all just for you to find a dead body for yourself lol
简介
《The Little Tomb: The Maholova Club and the Search for a Dead Body》是一款操作绿毛姜饼人的角色冒险游戏,从一个小公园开始,了解到简单的交互、使用等等玩法,就可以开始自己的冒险了,本作和同类型游戏相比,节奏是比较慢的了,看似开放的世界,却只能按照按部就班的完成任务,有点可惜了这套美术资源了,不过因为本作没有中文本地化,虽然英文的单词都很简单也还好理解,但在寻找任务品的时候,还是会花点时间和费点劲的。

I'm going to be the best coffin in the world.
The Little Tomb: The Maholova Club and the Search for a Dead Body is an unconventional story-driven adventure developed by CAVYHOUSE and published by PLAYISM on Steam. Known for supporting distinctive independent titles, PLAYISM often releases games that blend unusual storytelling with experimental design, and this project reflects that philosophy through its eccentric tone and narrative-driven gameplay. Rather than presenting a traditional mystery filled with dramatic crime-solving mechanics, the game offers a quirky and surreal investigation that unfolds through conversations, exploration, and unexpected character interactions. The premise revolves around a strange situation involving the Maholova Club and the mysterious disappearance—or possible discovery—of a dead body. The protagonist becomes involved in the investigation and must navigate a web of unusual characters and strange events in order to uncover the truth. The narrative structure deliberately avoids a straightforward detective format. Instead, the story gradually reveals fragments of information through dialogue, environmental observations, and interactions that often mix humor with darker themes. This storytelling approach keeps players curious about what is actually happening beneath the surface of the seemingly absurd situation. Gameplay focuses primarily on exploration and dialogue. Players move through various environments while interacting with objects and characters to gather clues about the events surrounding the Maholova Club. The investigation unfolds through a sequence of conversations and observations rather than complex puzzle mechanics. While there are moments where players must decide how to respond to characters or where to explore next, the emphasis remains firmly on narrative progression rather than mechanical challenge. A major strength of the game lies in its characters. Members of the Maholova Club each possess distinct personalities that shape the tone of the story. Some characters appear suspicious or evasive, while others provide comedic relief through eccentric behavior and odd remarks. These personalities create an unpredictable atmosphere where it is often difficult to determine who can be trusted. The interactions between characters gradually reveal their motivations and relationships, helping the mystery develop in an organic way. The writing leans heavily into surreal humor and slightly absurd dialogue. Conversations frequently take unexpected turns, blending serious investigation with bizarre or comedic situations. This tone creates a unique balance between lighthearted entertainment and genuine intrigue. Players are often left unsure whether certain events are meant to be taken seriously or viewed as part of the game’s intentionally strange world. Visually, the game adopts a charming pixel-art style reminiscent of classic adventure games. Characters are represented through expressive sprites that convey personality despite their simple design. The environments are colorful and detailed, presenting locations that feel both familiar and slightly whimsical. This retro aesthetic reinforces the game’s quirky identity while allowing the story and characters to remain the primary focus. The soundtrack supports the game’s atmosphere with a collection of subtle and varied musical tracks. Some pieces emphasize the playful and humorous aspects of the story, while others create a sense of mystery during investigative moments. The music never overwhelms the dialogue but instead enhances the mood of each scene, helping maintain the game’s distinctive tone. Another appealing element of the experience is the way the narrative unfolds gradually. Rather than presenting all of its secrets immediately, the game encourages players to piece together information through careful observation and conversation. As new details emerge about the Maholova Club and the events surrounding the mysterious body, the story begins to reveal its deeper themes and connections between characters. However, the game’s focus on narrative means that its gameplay mechanics remain relatively simple. Players expecting challenging puzzles or complex gameplay systems may find the interactive elements somewhat limited. Much of the experience involves reading dialogue and progressing through the story, which may not appeal to those seeking more action-oriented gameplay. Even so, the game succeeds in creating a memorable atmosphere through its distinctive storytelling and character-driven design. The unusual combination of mystery, dark humor, and surreal situations ensures that the narrative remains engaging from beginning to end. The simplicity of the gameplay allows the characters and writing to remain the central focus of the experience. Overall, The Little Tomb: The Maholova Club and the Search for a Dead Body stands out as an unusual and charming narrative adventure that embraces eccentric storytelling and quirky character interactions. Its pixel-art presentation, humorous dialogue, and gradually unfolding mystery create a unique experience that feels both playful and intriguing. While the gameplay mechanics may be minimal, the strength of the narrative and its distinctive tone make the journey through this strange investigation an entertaining one. Rating: 8/10
