The Last Train - Definitive Edition
DISCLAIMER: I received this product for no cost for the purpose of reviewing. However, this does not affect my views and opinions of the game. Short Review The Last Train is a resource management simulation survival game in which you play as the conductor of a train. The game takes place in an alternate reality in which Japan unleashed a vicious attack on America post World War II. -------- Graphics: 6 / 10 The grim dark tones and colours of the game really set the mood. Especially in contrast to the opening scene (before the apocalyptic events occur). The graphics and style of the game work well with the theme provided and even the portraits of the characters seem to fit in with the style. There are a lack of animations and overall polish to the art, though it may or may not play into the favour of the theme as art is always subjective. The game is not demanding and should have no problem running on any setup. -------- Sound: 6 / 10 The soundtrack is fine, it mostly consists of long overbearing tones but it does fit in the with motif of the game, even the sounds and music are grim and give that sense of anxiety. The sound effects are standard and get the job done. -------- Mechanics: 6 / 10 The game's mechanics are basic but easy to figure out and understand. You as the conductor must travel from city to city picking up and dropping off passengers. Each passenger will reward you with a resource or two after taking them to their destination. These resources are; food, fuel, and other items that can be useful. Each passenger has a certain date they must arrive at their destination by, and there are some choices that the player must make throughout the game regarding the passengers. While at a station, the player can also choose to scavenge the area with or without any tools they might have. Scavenging can bring in items and resources. There is an inventory limit and passenger limit on the train, though various upgrades (that require resources) can help with these limits. Throughout the story-mode, every once in awhile you'll come across a story event that'll move the plot forward. You'll get to know more about the situation and your train as well the passengers. The sandbox mode allows the player to try and survive as long as they can and make it to the leader-boards of the game. -------- Thanks to the developers for giving me the opportunity to review the title, as well as anyone who took this review into consideration, I hope it helped.
Just picked the game up on sale since it had a really interesting setting. The game is good, has a very fascinating world war 2 story. Loved the strategic aspect of the gameplay, there is a lot of resource management and planning involved. I managed to 100% the game with all achievements in about 4 hours. I would love to see more content in the setting.
This game is amazing. Update: It's been a month since I played this game. I probably didn't really plan on playing this game ever again except I saw that there was an update for this game. I'm going to say that the update was for the worse. One major implementation in the update was that it made it so that plenty of major cities in America had been effected by nuclear attacks. When I had first played this game I had liked to make believe some role playing elements where I was a train conductor who was able to avoid the WW2 draft and so was able to pick and choose who I wanted to pick up as my passengers to deliver them to their destinations across the country. The new update makes it blatantly clear now that America was attacked in nuclear war and it's an element that I think the developers could've worked around or done without. Maybe instead of needing a hazmat suit to explore nuclear areas, you could've just gotten hiking boots to walk around in the woods. I still like the game but the new update was for the worse rather than the better. But lets do some pros and cons for this game. Cons: -You need a screw driver to open up a trash can -The coal payments are too low. I'd love it if there was at least 1 person in every city where they would pay you 2 coal but they'd be further away. -The new minigames in the latest update are tedious at worst and useless at best. I noticed no difference when I would get them right versus when I would get them wrong. -There's currently a glitch where once you upgrade your train, there's an invisble carriage on the Western Pacific train model. Pros: -Lots of mini stories from people who you don't really get to know but you get a glimpse into their lives momentarily. -I picked up one random passenger and they gave me malaria. Improvements I'd like to see: -I'd love it if there were recurring passengers or characters. -A merchant where you can trade items with them. The merchant doesn't even have to be in every city. They could move around or mention in a passing piece of dialogue they're going to so and so and if you take too long to get there, they could've already moved on. -I'd love it if I could talk to the passengers and ask them more questions about themselves during the train ride. Perhaps even romance one or two damsels.

Just began playing it and really enjoying it so far!
The Last Train - Definitive Edition is a broken mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is a point and click strategy/adventure/tycoon game, best to be described as an arguably deficient ripoff of The Oregon Trail, only set in a completely unrealistic alternative WW2 scenario where the trains are all from 1870, because the developer knows nothing about trains or WW2. Or making games that work. The game was never tested on recent builds of Windows 10/11, and upon launching, the UI is unresponsive. You can move your mouse around all you want and click, but nothing works. Presumably the game is waiting for iPhone touchscreen input that will never happen, because the game is ported to PC. Regardless, the developers failure to test the game, or resolve issues when notified is bad enough... continuing to sell it is unethical. This makes deeper technical assessment difficult, but some things are directly obvious. The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just iPhone screen tapping stuff. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the game was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The game is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this game is reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 4 players. That's right, only 4. This is a pitiful enough number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is remarkable, but also to be expected. This complete and utter rejection of the game from gamers should be a keen information point for anyone considering buying shovelware like this. Gamers just didn't take this seriously, and for good reason. It's broken. Unethically, the developers have left this on the Steam store in an unplayable and broken state. This is harmful to Steam and to gamers, because it takes a share of the marketing space and visibility away from other games. It's polluting Steam and making it harder for gamers to find genuine games and for genuine indie developers who put months or years into making proper games find an audience. Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $8 USD, on app stores, it's $3. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay MORE THAN TWICE THE PRICE for a broken mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this is a mobile app, is priced to insult and gouge PC gamers, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Just who do they think we are?
Pros: Get more familiar with the United States, has a little charm at first, and a little strategy to what items you should collect/build first Cons: repetitive very quickly, the challenge of building/collecting items is too easy the more you play, and the story is way too short. All in all, starts off with a cool idea, but then just flatlines
