About

THE KULKA is a one-button bullet-heaven arcade roguelite where your single shot slowly mutates into pure neon chaos. Imagine Flappy Bird colliding with Vampire Survivors.
Tap to flap like in a classic flappy game, dodge walls of enemies and stack bullet upgrades until the screen explodes in colour.
Fast, focused and replayable – built for tight controls, punchy sound, online leaderboards, challenges and that “one more run” feeling.
Tap or click to flap and keep your orb in the air.
Your shot fires automatically – destroy enemies to earn XP gems.
Level up and choose an upgrade to mutate your bullet.
Survive as long as you can, then try to beat your high score – locally or on global leaderboards.
At first it’s just you, one bullet and a handful of enemies. A few levels later the screen is full of bouncing, splitting, homing, exploding shots – and you’re trying to squeeze through the chaos with a single button.
One-button gameplay – easy to pick up, hard to master. You only control vertical movement, but every flap matters.
Bullet mutation system – every level-up adds new behaviour to your shot: split, ricochet, pierce, homing, explosions, lightning, lasers, novas and more.
Tons of builds – turn your tiny pellet into a bouncing storm, a piercing rail, a safe shield bubble or a swirling vortex of damage.
Fast arcade runs – instant restarts and quick runs; perfect for short sessions or long “just one more try” evenings.
Difficulty options – Relax, Easy, Normal and Hardcore presets – from chill flapping to sweaty record chasing.
Two upgrade styles – classic manual upgrade picks (you choose like in Vampire Survivors) or Flow mode with automatic upgrade choices so you can focus purely on dodging.
Extra modes – additional ways to play.
Neon Geometry Wars–style look – clean synthwave grid, bright orbs and clear hit feedback even when the screen is packed.
Punchy sound design – crisp hits, juicy pickups and satisfying upgrade feedback on both speakers and headphones.
Flexible controls – keyboard (Space + arrow keys), full gamepad support (Xbox / PlayStation / standard) and touch input; great for PC, Steam Deck and Remote Play.
Online leaderboards – compete with other players in global Steam score tables across multiple modes and difficulty levels.
Challenges & progression – unlock new options by completing in-game objectives instead of grinding endless gold.
Ball Bank – choose your starting weapons, skins and modifiers in a dedicated loadout / armoury screen before each run.
Marquee in the main menu – see the top players’ nicknames scrolling across the main menu every time you launch the game.
Steam achievements & Cloud – over 100 achievements plus Steam Cloud support for your progress.
Start small, then let the chaos grow:
Begin with a single bullet.
Pick Split Shot – now you fire two bullets.
Add Ricochet and Pierce – your shots bounce, pass through enemies and cover huge parts of the screen.
Combine Homing, Explosive Bullets, Chain Lightning or Nova Blast to create your own broken combo.
Example mixes:
Faster Shots + Multishot + Faster Bullets = Bullet Spam
Multishot + Area Size + Bigger Projectiles = Wide Wall
Multishot + Pierce = Line Killer
Multishot + Ricochet = Bouncing Storm
Shield + Time Warp = Slow Bubble
Shield + Orbital Drone = Safe Core
Freeze + Vortex = Frozen Vortex
Poison + Vortex = Poison Zone
THE KULKA is all about making this one run as wild as possible – a quick neon arcade fix when you just want to flap, mutate and survive a little bit longer, with enough progression and competition to keep you coming back.
In the full version of THE KULKA, you unlock additional cosmetic skins and visual variants (e.g. Christmas and New Year themes) that change the look of the game – with no impact on balance, mechanics, or leaderboards.
All skins are earned through challenges and objectives – no currency, no microtransaction grind.
Purely cosmetic. Zero advantage, just style.

It's fun! The game is fun. I don't even really like survivor-type games all that much but this is a decently unique spin on the genre. The game is tough and easy to jump in and out of.
I got #1 on the Hard leaderboard so I felt like I should write a review. This game is quite satisfying. Runs are quick and upgrades often feel quite substantial. Enemies pop in a satisfying way and the way upgrades help you kill things faster and better gives a constant stream of dopamine. Graphics are nothing to write home about, but not ugly and things are clear enough. The movement system is interesting, I've never seen another game use Flappy Bird's controls without being a straight rip-off, so kudos for that. My biggest complaint is just that every good run is basically the same. The key is just to get as many projectiles on screen as you can. There really is only one winning strategy. Multishot and split and attack speed are high priority. Take some chain and a level in explode for AoE clear. Take wall bounce or wall wrap and just sit at the bottom of the screen without bothering with the flappy bird mechanics. Homing is a trap if you want a high score, the area coverage from your bullet pattern is better. The biggest limiting factor for runs is how many hits you can do on the bullet sponge enemies, and only half to a third of the possible upgrades contribute to that, so it's a matter of getting lucky and getting the best upgrades with your limited rerolls and levels before you get overwhelmed. On Easy, it's also possible to become immortal if you take a couple of shields and can kill trash enemies fast enough. The game doesn't throw enough obstacles (Black Holes) at you to out-damage your shield regen. I stopped the run after like 45 minutes and got second place. This game also seems like it won't get updates anymore, which is unfortunate as I've run into some bugs, including one I couldn't replicate where I got triple XP for one run. With good upgrade luck that would be a cheat code to a #1 score, but I got really bad luck on that run. Overall though, I recommend it. The game is quite satisfying even if you don't care about a high score. For a dollar you can definitely get an hour or two of satisfaction from the upgrade loop and trying out all the difficulties. Maybe try to beat my scores, I feel like a really great run could beat my scores but I think I'm done trying.
THE KULKA is a minimalist arcade roguelite developed and published by Airem that demonstrates how a simple concept can evolve into an engaging and surprisingly deep gameplay experience. At its core, the game strips the bullet-hell survival formula down to its bare essentials, challenging players to survive inside a glowing digital arena while controlling a small floating orb. The most unusual aspect of the design is its control scheme—players interact with the entire game using only a single button. This decision transforms what could have been a traditional shooter into a rhythmic survival challenge where careful timing and positioning become the keys to staying alive. Rather than overwhelming players with complex controls or menus, THE KULKA focuses on pure mechanical mastery and fast-paced decision-making. The basic gameplay loop revolves around surviving waves of enemies that continuously appear within a neon-lit arena. The player’s orb automatically fires a projectile toward enemies, leaving the player responsible only for vertical movement. Pressing the button causes the orb to bounce or “flap,” allowing it to maneuver through enemy formations and avoid incoming projectiles. This mechanic is deceptively simple, but it becomes increasingly demanding as the arena fills with enemies and hazards. Players must maintain a steady rhythm of movement, weaving through tight gaps while keeping track of enemy positions and the direction of incoming attacks. Because the control scheme is so minimal, even small mistakes can quickly lead to defeat. As enemies are destroyed, they drop experience gems that allow the player to level up during a run. Each level-up presents a choice between several upgrades that modify the behavior of the orb’s weapon. These upgrades form the foundation of the game’s progression system, gradually transforming the initial single bullet into something far more destructive. Early upgrades may simply increase the speed or power of the projectile, but later combinations can create elaborate patterns such as bouncing shots, chain lightning, homing missiles, or explosive blasts that spread across the arena. The stacking nature of these upgrades allows players to experiment with a wide variety of builds, and discovering powerful combinations becomes one of the most rewarding aspects of the game. What makes these upgrades particularly satisfying is how dramatically they can alter the flow of a run. At the start of each attempt, the player feels vulnerable and must carefully dodge enemies while their modest weapon struggles to keep up with the growing threats. As upgrades accumulate, however, the balance begins to shift. A well-built weapon can clear entire clusters of enemies in seconds, turning the once fragile orb into a destructive force capable of dominating the arena. This transformation from fragile survivor to overwhelming powerhouse gives each run a sense of progression even though the overall objective remains the same. The roguelite structure ensures that no two runs feel exactly alike. Because upgrades appear randomly, players must constantly adapt their strategy based on the choices presented during each level-up. Some runs may encourage aggressive builds focused on maximum damage output, while others may favor defensive upgrades that prioritize survival through shields or slowing effects. This unpredictability keeps the gameplay fresh, encouraging players to experiment with different combinations and discover which strategies allow them to survive the longest. Sessions in THE KULKA are intentionally brief, often lasting only a few minutes before the player is overwhelmed by enemies. However, the game’s quick restart system makes it easy to jump immediately into another attempt. This design reinforces the addictive “just one more run” feeling that defines many successful roguelites. Players gradually improve their survival skills while also experimenting with new upgrade paths, making each attempt feel like another step toward mastering the arena. The visual style of the game embraces a glowing neon aesthetic inspired by classic arcade shooters. The battlefield appears as a futuristic digital grid where colorful enemies, projectiles, and power-ups stand out against the dark background. As a run progresses and upgrades begin to stack, the screen fills with vibrant visual effects created by explosions, lightning chains, and ricocheting projectiles. Despite the increasing visual chaos, the design remains surprisingly readable, allowing players to identify threats and safe spaces within the arena even when the action becomes intense. Sound design and music play an important role in reinforcing the game’s rhythm. The electronic soundtrack maintains a steady tempo that complements the pacing of the gameplay, helping players fall into a flow state as they dodge enemies and collect experience gems. Sound effects for projectiles, explosions, and upgrade activations provide satisfying feedback that enhances the sense of progression during each run. Together, the visual and audio elements create an immersive arcade atmosphere that feels both energetic and hypnotic. The game also offers a variety of modes and difficulty options that expand its replay value. Players who want a relaxed experience can choose easier settings that allow them to explore upgrade combinations without overwhelming pressure. Meanwhile, higher difficulty levels increase enemy aggression and projectile density, creating a far more demanding challenge for experienced players. One particularly interesting option is the “Flow” mode, which automatically selects upgrades during runs. This removes the pause between level-ups and allows players to focus entirely on movement and survival, creating a smoother and more continuous gameplay rhythm. Despite its strengths, THE KULKA remains a relatively small experience. The arena setting and core gameplay loop remain largely unchanged throughout repeated sessions, which may lead to a sense of repetition over extended play. Players seeking story content, environmental variety, or a long campaign may find the game somewhat limited. However, the design intentionally prioritizes replayability and mechanical mastery over narrative or large-scale progression systems. Ultimately, THE KULKA succeeds as a clever and highly focused arcade roguelite. By combining one-button controls with the escalating chaos of bullet-hell combat, the game manages to create a surprisingly engaging survival experience built entirely around timing, reflexes, and experimentation with upgrade combinations. Its minimalist design, vibrant presentation, and addictive replay structure make it easy to pick up and difficult to put down. For players who enjoy skill-based arcade challenges and roguelite experimentation, THE KULKA delivers a compact but satisfying experience that proves simplicity can still produce compelling gameplay. Rating: 7/10

Flappy Bird + Vampire Survivors.
