The Hidden Room - Pyramid is a short-but-sweet romp through a Mesoamerican pyramid in search of treasure. It has recently come out of “Early Access” and the development team has made numerous improvements based on user feedback. Your first task is to open two combination keypads to gain access to the work site. I immediately made a faulty assumption about a clue and went down a rabbit hole for over an hour trying to open the first lock. Sigh… After that, things could only get better! Each room has a single puzzle that opens the door to the next section. There are about a half-dozen areas to explore and solve before reaching your destination. Puzzles are based on Mesoamerican culture (specifically, Mayan numbers, calendars, and glyphs). Armed only with a torch, you find cheat sheets at the beginning of the game. Other than these few pages, there are no hints and you are on your own! There is a minimal soundtrack which has footsteps and environmental noises during game play. Voice-overs are used when you “think out loud” during exploration. I turned the subtitles on and muted the sound as I played. This was not a good decision, as I spent extra time working on a puzzle that I had already solved and missed the rumble of the next door opening! The game autosaves as you complete each area and retains multiple save points. I am not sure why you would want to go back to an earlier puzzle, but the capability is there. If you leave the game while in the middle of a puzzle, you will need to restart that area when you return. In one section, the solution involved finding puzzle pieces and I was careful to clear this portion of the pyramid before exiting. Steam achievements are not supported. I recommend The Hidden Room – Pyramid to anyone who enjoys exploration and puzzlers. It is crafted by two people and is a work of love that provides a learning opportunity as well as the chance to stretch your brain. Perhaps I am less informed than everyone else, but the term “Mesoamerica” was new to me AND I learned that vigesimal (base-20) numbering systems were created because we can count using our fingers and toes! This is a nice callback to some of the earlier point-and-click games of the 90s, where there was very little to no hand-holding when it came to solving puzzles. Albeit short, I quite enjoyed this game. Can't wait for more material to be released. One thing I'd recommend, though: you may have to play with the in-game settings in order to get a good, smooth experience. At even medium, some of the animation and transitions were jerky. I had to set mine to "Low" across the board and lower the screen percentage all the way down to 50%. The long playtime is due to two things: 1. The only save points are when you enter one of the access codes. I'd recommend the developer to add in the manual save feature, so you don't have to start all over from the beginning of a level. This especially helps for those who might have limited playtime for any reason. 2. Some areas took some serious working out, at least for me (check my profile for another thread concerning that). My only major complaint was the inventory feature still has some bugs to work out. The developer is aware of that and plans to fix it in the future. It's not so bad for some items, but others, mainly some documents, it's crucial. But all-in-all, it was a great game.
For the price of under $2 it's alright - the locker code is very vague and required a hint I found online - one annoying glitch is that after I left and returned to the game I could not see the 3 pages in inventory - they were there, but blank (which made a door code later on in the game more time consuming than it needed to be). All in all it has several puzzles that make no sense at all, they just work by brute force - actually the more I think about it the worse I think the game was... I wish there was a neutral recommendation instead of just yes or no - would I recommend it? maybe, are you missing out if you skip it? no,
I found the whs tape but there is no way to use it or to read any of the documents in inventory. only getting " health full" message!
The game is hitting you with a very obscure, moon logic puzzle right out of the gate, most people will bounce off because of this. Otherwise, there are a few decent puzzles here. The UI/inventory system and item select/item use is extremely awkward and possibly buggy, at least it felt like it, one thing is for sure, it is not communicated well to the player, leading to confusion and frustration whenever you have to use items, which is very irregular. After the first room, you only have to use items like 6 rooms down the line. Useless features like pan left pan right, and throw item?? The game feels like a student/hobby project that should be free on Itch. Yes, it is only 2€, but still, it does not worth it.
nice puzzle game
im not sure what to think about it..... it is pretty much meh...as i have played worse before i would say get this one on sale.
a part qques bug .... j'ai pu quand meme arrive au bout .. pas mal ... au vu du prix je dirais tres bien ... mais ca vaut pas plus de 2 euros pour le moment ...
i highly reccomend this game to spend a little time solving puzzles
