Disclaimer: A copy of this game was provided by the developer. The Happy Little Virus is a top down shooter with dark humor. You play as a virus and the objective in every level is to steal the data. Killing all the enemies isn't required as you can sometimes rush around them. There are a total of 6 weapons to be unlocked, but only 3 of them end up being relevant due to their range and one of them sometimes bugs out. Some levels feature replicators that spawns other viruses that count as extra lifes if you die, they can be told to follow, stay or you can swap to them. The level design is interesting by introducing different challenges, sometimes removing your weapons to have you rely on traps to kill enemies, mixing up obstacles or limiting the vision with darkness. Despite level variety, the gameplay mostly ends up the same as you abuse your weapons that outrange the enemies or kiting and waiting enemies to turn around the corner as you spam your weapon in their direciton. The only levels where you aren't allowed to do that are the few levels without weapons available and the very last level where everything is chaotic from the start, not giving you any safe place to fall back to. For the story, you are being told to attack the charities because they are evil and because you owe your life to your creator. But there isn't enough plot development to make you care about the story and
somehow after beating the final level and an exchange between the creator and Mother Theresa, you are given a choice to kill one of them
. The level descriptions have dark humor and may give you a few laughs. For achievement hunters: Copy the save file for the ending choice, small grind and beat 10 levels without getting hit.
I like this game! Original and creative, and a lot of effort went into this little indie game. Very cool with really crisp and responsive controls as well! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-eYKWqMD6s Keep up the good work Edward! <3 My First Impressions Score: 8 out of 10, perhaps a 9 out of 10 if the price were just $5. ..Something to consider dev.. you'll make more money selling 500 copies of this at $5 each ($2,500) VS 50 copies selling at $10 ($500) just sayin' RECOMMENDED, even though the price seems a tad bit high. Maybe catch it on sale?
I got this game for free to show it to my community on stream. At first I was very skeptical however we had great fun. I have not played the complete game until the end so I cannot judge how the story would end and how many maps you would have to beat. What to expect from the game? A top down shooter with a cynical story plot and several details in text which could actually be out of real life if you think about it. You have to get used to the controls and it is certainly not a game where you can just rush through every map even if you are tempted to do that. You can have a lot of fun playing and thinking about your next steps. How could this game be improved? Even if it is already fun to play there is some room for improvement. Maybe in the future the following ideas could help to get more attention: - A tutorial or more description of the controls and the weapons. You are currently thrown into the game and pick up new weapons or discover little boosting details by accident. I guess for some people this can get very frustrating as they don't figure out immediately what to do with these new items. - Multiplayer: This game would have great potential for many many deathmatches or "capture the bitcoin" or something like this. - Integration with Twitch? Don't know how complicated this is however some Unity games offer a possibility for Twitch viewers to play using the browser. This would give potential for matches when doing giveaways or other similar events. Summary I like this game however it has room for some improvement. As for Germany I think the price of 8,19€ might be a bit too high. Germans tend to buy just everything if it is just 5€. Above they start thinking. Maybe reduce the price or catch it on a sale. Overall I would give the game 8.5/10.
Gioco abbastanza carino!
