About

The Golden Eyed Ghosts is a dark fantasy soulslike heavily influenced by the legacy of Zelda adventures, set in the crumbling kingdom of Andromeda. Ancient, macabre secrets lurk beneath the kingdom's surface threatening its very existence. Take up Orion’s exiled mantle to brave the kingdom’s dangers, recover the four legendary stolen swords, and save it all from certain doom.
Things aren't always what they seem in Andromeda. Countless secrets and things best left forgotten are buried beneath the earth. If not too careful... Orion might find himself struggling inside a web of secrets, lies, and mysteries. Because...

Decisions dictate the way forward. Do you hack and slash your way through? Or look for a way to avoid needless slaughter? Do you heal yourself with the life energy of those you run through with your sword? Or retreat and find a moment of peace among strangely familiar grindstones? Perhaps the choice is to mix and match, adapting Orion’s kit to face down any form of foe. But try as you might, no matter if traveling sinister forests, glittering icefields, murky bogs, or decaying cities...

The choices made in combat pale in comparison when it comes to the real gut-wrenching, world-changing decisions. Track down a dastardly thief, befriend a suffering maiden, or aid a desperate father. Will they trust you? Can you trust them? Maybe a favor will be returned, or maybe betrayal is afoot.
Perhaps it's better to just leave this crumbling kingdom to its own devices and let the madness and eldritch energies consume the realm. After all...

Orion is a man on a quest, but he's no hero. He's just one of the many derelict denizens of the fallen Andromeda empire, struggling to survive in a moribund world. Join him on the journey to find a way forward in classic Metroidvania fashion. Face seemingly insurmountable odds and struggle to survive festering beasts, hideous machinations, and abyssal horrors of an ancient world...
The Golden Eyed Ghosts – A Game with Potential, But Little Execution
If you’ve found this review, it’s either because you’ve looked through my other reviews (thank you if that’s the case) or you’ve really lost yourself in Steam’s forgotten games. Either way, I hope I can help guide you. The Golden Eyed Ghosts has a strong aesthetic, with well-crafted visuals and music that set a distinct mood. The animated cutscenes feel inspired, though unfortunately, they cannot be skipped—a feature I always appreciate in games. The biggest issue with the game is how repetitive it becomes due to its combat design. Every encounter plays out in a near-identical fashion: any weapon strike knocks enemies backward, meaning the optimal strategy is always to push them into a wall and unload on them. If no walls are nearby, combat devolves into a cycle of striking, moving forward, striking again, and repeating. While new weapons are obtained throughout the game, they are either purely utility-based or just variations on dealing damage in slightly different ways. Enemy variety exists in terms of attack patterns and ranged capabilities, but the solution to every fight remains the same—rush in, strike, and repeat. Later in the game, the player gains some ranged options, but they don’t add much depth. A frustrating quirk of combat is that enemies can sometimes move inside the player's model, making them temporarily untouchable and forcing awkward repositioning. Boss fights, while visually distinct, suffer from similar problems. Their AI behaves much like regular enemies, making them feel less unique. Worse still, their hit detection seems inconsistent—sometimes attacks land, sometimes they don’t, with no clear indication of why. This lack of feedback makes an already repetitive combat system feel even more unpolished. There’s clear potential in The Golden Eyed Ghosts, but unfortunately, it never fully comes together. Since its release, there have been no updates or refinements, making it unlikely that its flaws will ever be addressed. I can’t, in good conscience, recommend it—especially when so many better alternatives exist. That said, I do hope the developer learns from this project and applies their creativity to a more refined experience in the future. The inspiration is there—it just needs a stronger foundation to stand on.
hit boxes and ai then unfinished...maybe
Overall, The Golden Eyed Ghost is a true masterpiece that pushes boundaries and sets new standards for excellence in gaming. With its breathtaking visuals, immersive gameplay, compelling narrative, and unforgettable soundtrack, it's an experience that shouldn't be missed. If you're searching for a game that will leave you awestruck and craving for more, look no further than The Golden Eyed Ghost. It's an absolute triumph and a must-play for any avid gamer and I strongly recommend this game.
Got this game lumped in a bundle, would not have gotten for it's price, especially with the reviews. That said, let's say this stuff again. The game is okay, but severely unpolished, like a gem under a mountain unpolished. The game starts out fine, can't even tell anything is wrong really, up until the forest. There the enemies seem less polished, because the first enemy to throw stones reveal that despite being lobbed into the air, you still get hit by their shadow. oh, and the rock drawn "up high"? that hits you too on contact if you're above them. That's the same with most enemy attacks, that despite being way below you, if they're big, their entire hitbox hits you, regardless of the distance backwards. Next up, the stun locking, which another review aptly dubbed "flinching". Imagine using a lvl 1 Rattata with a bite that had 100% chance to flinch taking down a lvl 100 legendary. That's what the combat can boil down to once you get the knife. I stood behind a tree when facing the gorilla boss, and it constantly rolled into it trying to hit me, while I repeatedly threw the dagger at it; About a hundred stabs later, boss dead, that's it. If you think that's bad, let's ice this cake. The runes you need to carry and bring to the witch in the forge can't be thrown across gaps of water, or obviously through walls. However when standing on such borders, throwing it onto yourself and dodging forward, you push yourself through. Pick it up and toss again repeatedly, and you can push yourself sideways anywhere. Didn't try vertical to see if that worked, though. And the later game get's even less polished, attack animations starting on the last frame so you can see the aoe, displaced sprites when Silver shoots their bow, hitting an enemy against certain walls and knocking them out of bounds to be unkillable. I'm sure the list goes on, but these are the worst I've had, though I only made it to the Jagged zone. If you dare to get this game, don't spend 20 bucks. If you're like me and got it in a bundle without looking, Try out these bugs to see how far you can cheese through this game. I only used the rune pushing bug to get to grindstones easier and turn them in, but I'm sure you could get just about anywhere with it, if it works vetically (really shoulda tested that). If you do play this, hope it's to enjoy how trash it is, because if it's still this bad after a couple years, it's probably abandonware.
combat system sucks
There is a lot of problems with this game, the characters will advance the story if you just walk away and come back and it ruins whatever you had to go and figure out. Combat isn't great but it has potential, i think this game has tons of potential, but its just not there yet. The map is all messed up with an "X" sometimes being there, and some times not. Enemies will just disappear sometimes and not show up again or you will just get hit from nothing. There is just a whole lot of glitchyness. I want to really like this game, but at the moment i just cant.
Great game and great concept art and it has a great plot. It is a good game! If you like these types of games, I definitely recommend it.
