The Deadseat

9/10 GAME Short 1 hour game but Unique story with easy to pickup gameplay but hard to master! Spoiler free review! Story: Some plot holes in the story but I love it better that way some might be more connected but the way it is with certain characters. Full story is in Hardmode so you have to replay the game but it adds more modifiers into it's gameplay! Gameplay inspired by FNAF check camera style easy to pickup but hard to master once all modifiers in the game. Two phases in this game. First Phase grab materials to protect yourself for second phases. This is different in Endless mode where in endless you have to grab a key in of the modifiers. Second phase you balance grabbing gas 10 cans to beat the phase but at the same time flash a camera at windows for a monster chasing you. The materials you grab in first phase like barricades and traps to block the window for an extra window. Sound: Very important to hear audio cue in this game without them you will lose! There's a monster tapping on the glass you need to look at and flash your camera at! Spoiler about story talk in comment section!

After just playing the main mode (I'm not one for challenges and hardcore personally) I have to say this was a delight! Not just spooky, but spooky that relies on the deep seeded fear that so many have had to endure... The horror of trying to play a game on a drive WHILE NOT GETTING SICK! Okay not true there's certainly more to it I needn't spoil here. Just know that beyond just the normal mode you will have a fantastic time developing a flow throughout this one!

A clever little game that turns its mechanics into metaphor. One plays as a child playing a handheld game (ooo, meta!) whose supernatural elements begin to bleed into the reality of the protagonist, seated in the backseat of a car while their parents argue in the front. One is forced to keep one eye on the game and another on the increasingly volatile situation around them. The supernatural elements gradually blur that line, focusing primarily on a two-headed demon that represents a grotesque manifestation of the protagonist’s parents: two people locked in perpetual conflict, sharing the same body but pulling in opposite directions. The increasingly frantic task of keeping up with both the game and the car’s escalating tension makes the metaphor surprisingly effective. Beneath the weirdness is a melancholy little story about a child retreating into games to cope with something he has absolutely no control over. The Deadseat is enjoyable, (sadly) relatable, and surprisingly challenging in its latter stages. Fans of short horror games will appreciate the novel mechanics. [i] I remember being that child (as will half of my generation).

The Deadseat is an absolute masterclass in game design. It teaches you the mechanics slowly and allows you to get used to them, but throws them at you just quick enough so you don't feel like you're playing baby's first video game. Not to mention that one of the core mechanics, the audio cues, are excellently done. Far too many games with similar mechanics will force you to raise your volume up to the max setting, only to blow your eardrums out with music or a cheap jumpscare. This game sets the audio levels correctly, and I was even able to complete camera only normal mode with music playing in the background. The directional audio cue that comes from the rear of the car also has a unique sound which is an incredible touch as it makes the game much less frustrating for people with poor directional hearing or bad headphones. But the gameplay isn't the only thing that makes this game so excellent, the story is incredibly rich, engaging, and SUPER creepy. I constantly found myself eager to get to the next section so I could figure out what happens next in the story. Overall, an incredible game that I would recommend to anyone, especially for such a low price, and I can't wait to see how the universe expands in Feed The Pit.
