This shouldnt be a released game yet.... not with its current graphics lack of tactile feel for combat and honestly....extremely odd character movement!
The Crown Of Wu is a retelling of the Chinese story Journey to the West. The story puts you in the shoes of the character Sun Wukong who wakes up in a futuristic world and has to take on robots and other magical enemies. You must defeat these enemies to save your master and the kingdom. The game takes its inspiration from the old story and this works very well. Watch a snippet of gameplay here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DhTumSrf2H8 As you walk through the game you also receive more and more powers of the elements, namely: earth, water, wind and fire. You can use these elements in both the puzzles and the battles. You can also use the 4 elements, which all have their advantages and disadvantages, it is a matter of when you use them. The fighting itself is easy to master, but you have to strike at the right time, there are always tutorials provided so you won't miss anything. The game also works great on a steam deck: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0FQG1K5phZs In addition to the combat, the puzzles are also something the game excels at. You are often put on the wrong track and then you have to let the elements do their job. What the game also does well are the boss fights. The boss fights are definitely not easy and you really have to think hard about how to beat them. You will often also die in these fights and it is not a punishment at all if you see later and know how to beat the boss. This is very nicely done.
This game is a good indie game that contains a couple of game genres: Action, adventure, puzzle, parkour, story telling...The combat system is good with also some special powers (powers of nature). There are also boss battles. So yes, I think this indie game has a lot of positive points to be entertaining. Here my first gameplay: https://youtu.be/7V2MlGs_jQ8
The Crown of Wu
The Crown of Wu is a hilarious third-person adventure whose gameplay is based on three pillars: puzzles, platforming and action. The narrative is presented as a backdrop in a very correct way, with monoliths and collectibles. A very functional way that does not hinder the rhythm of the adventure. The puzzles are incredibly ingenious and as a peculiarity, you will not find two puzzles alike in the game. A very important point to be always attentive and not become repetitive. The platforming is one of the most important points of the game, you must take care and measure your jumps very well if you do not want to repeat large entire areas. The Crown of Wu is a tribute to those classic adventure games that did not want to make it easy for us to reach our goal.It is a video game that despite being indie knows how to play its cards very well. It manages to capture the essence of games of the past that were not so restricted to specific genres, offering a lot of dynamism and fun.I say a resounding YES to The Crown of Wu.
There are apparent signs of a limited budget and lack of polish, but this action adventure/platformer indie managed to capture my attention with standard but fun gameplay. It needs a patch or two to iron out some issues and fix the non-working achievements. Without any sort of introduction, the game essentially throws you in. As you advance in the game, the motivations for the actions you take as the monkey warrior are revealed. Short version: A crown has been lost, and horrible things are happening as a result. Despite the obvious lack of eye-candy and mechanics that suggest the game came out a few years too late, the initial impression of the world and art design is pleasant. The stages are fascinating, and some of them are really intricate. Almost all are filled with puzzles, a lot of platforming, handful of battles and occasional secret corner here and there. The pagoda stage, where platforming and puzzles combine to create an experience worthy of the biggest games, is my favorite. But, a deeper glance reveals that things are not all that wonderful. With the limited resources independent developers have to work with, that is understandable, but it still needs to be mentioned. There are clipping issues; your body can sometimes melt into the background, you can see through walls if you turn the camera in the right direction, you will sometimes fall through ledges that appear to be solid, etc. Although it doesn't happen a lot, it has happened multiple times enough for me to take attention. The most important mechanic of the game is platforming. It's great that there are no consequences for missing and falling into pits, therefore precision is not required. You simply respawn close by, then try again. The similar thing happens if your health is completely lost. The difference is that you respawn at checkpoints, but they’re so fair that I never felt I was squandering time. While puzzles don’t overstay their welcome, they’re don’t bring anything new either. It mostly involves pushing blocks on the right spot or figuring out a pattern. But that doesn’t mean they’re not fun. It is not worth noting treasures and collectibles. Since there are so few of them, you hardly ever find chests or bright orbs laying around. You can never tell how many are on a stage because you can't go back if you miss it, which is another problem for completionists. Also, finding them is not worth the trouble because none of the achievements work. Because there are so many buttons and key combinations to remember, controls can be intimidating. Here, you can use all the standard action/adventure game moves, like dodge, block, attack, target lock, etc. Even better, you get to use elemental abilities to either strike adversaries or tackle puzzles. Although while stamina is a crucial component of combat, I never felt constrained by the mechanic. You can attack a respectable amount of times before feeling exhausted, and stamina recharges quickly. Another point is that, with only a few enemies per stage, combat simply isn't that crucial in this game. Enemies can be challenging, particularly if you have to fight several at once. On the other hand, defeating a single enemy is rather simple and only requires the use of a basic strategy. With the exception of mages, who can really ruin your day with projectiles and magic. There is lack of enemy variety. Guardian warriors with various weapons are the one and only opponent. Fighting them is always the same, despite the fact that they have various attack patterns. The other enemy is a drone that behaves more like a trap. You must stay clear of their searchlights while they patrol the area. Stay too long in the light and you get blasted. The best way to defeat any enemy is to go in for a few blows after they finish the attack animation and repeat since their telegraphed special moves are easily avoidable if you maintain your distance. Because it was simpler to lock-target and circle around an opponent, blocking and dodging were rarely used. Also, the crystal mechanic makes it possible to take advantage of most fights. Elemental powers use energy that is gained by smashing crystals. What makes this interesting is that you can never run out because crystals regrow after a while. This also means you can heal all you want. The game makes an effort to combat this with the slow healing animation that leaves you vulnerable and sections that forbid the use of powers, but the potential for abuse is still there. This game doesn't have any voiceovers. There is simply nonsense speech, which may or may not be part of an actual language. I'm not sure. I didn't find it annoying, though, because it only comes from your master/teacher. The first stage makes an attempt to convey lore through hovering text that appears as you get close to an interesting object. The problem is that it's simple to overlook because of how slowly it appears and how bright the font is, making it difficult to read or even detect in bright environments. On the other hand, given that I haven't come across these texts since the first stage, it might not even be that big of a deal. Hidden monoliths that play an animated clip for a few seconds are interesting. Together, they make up a complete story, but the same issue that arises with collectibles also applies here: because you are unaware that they are hidden in a stage, it is easy to overlook them.
Walkthrough - https://youtu.be/ClCLx1wJywk Good Game but it seriously needs lots of fixes as it's full of bugs and glitches, bugs aside it's a pretty cool game, gives you that Poor Mans Wu kong Feel. The Price point is a bit too much though so I d wait for a sale and then buy this. Rating - 7/10 ( Decent Game could be a lot better though )
