The Citadel

Terrifiant, brutal, viscéral, pas pour tout le monde... excellent petit jeu.

I'll admit im not that good with boomer shooters but I liked this one. Right off the bat, if you like guro or have a gun kink where you enjoy hearing bulleting casings hitting the ground, you should definitely pick this up. Gunplay is decent. It doesnt do anything that crazy but its fun. Theres a nice variety of weapons with some I used way more than others because they are just better. Theres a few I used maybe once in a single level. Level design is cool but a little frustrating with the enemy placements, and this game LOVES its long hallways with 10 different enemies shooting at you with no where to take cover. Its maybe at its absolute worse in the last level where you just have to pray you kill all the enemies you need to be able to take cover. Boss fights were fine. All of them are very spongy with spamming a ton of projectiles. Though most of them went down pretty easily if you just use the shotgun. The actual boss designs themselves are amazing, they strike a right balance between beautiful and grotesque. There is a story here. Its Very cryptic and straight forward at the same time, but also almost non existent. Dont have much to say on it, just experience it yourself. Good game and I liked the Martyrs thighs.

The Citadel (2020) by doekuramori and Top Hat Studios Inc 7/10 A really unique, short and sweet boomer shooter with intense and elaborate gunplay paired with an interesting and bizarre art style and tone. If the gameplay wasn't this good, I would be much harsher on the extremely sexualized aesthetic, but it pulls it off and I ended up really liking it. The hand drawn bio-punk illustrations for the sprites are great, and the levels creating a really creepy and unsettling tone, harsh blue bricks against an apocalyptic End of Evangalion esque red sky. The Guns handle great with bullet drop off, reloads, and cool alternate fires, and all of them have a satisfying kick to them. The Level design varies from good to great, some are too short whilst others are way way wayyy too long. I loved the ones where it is wide open and you can choose your path how to navigate through them. The platforming levels weren't great. I would have liked more enemy variety and there were too many bullet sponge enemies. Excited to see how Beyond the Citadel builds on this.

great retro style shooter but the story/environment could use work

This feels and plays almost exactly like Beyond Citadel. But Beyond Citadel is slightly better in every way. Regardless, I still had fun with this game, and I still value the purchase and time spent.

Absolute banger. Only downside is that it crashes quite a bit, by which I mean 3 times in the 5 hours I've played thus far.

Very charming homage to classic boomer shooters, the English translation is spotty in parts, but the gunplay is super solid and engaging, the level design is sprawling without being confusing, and the world itself is interesting with the tiny tidbits of spoken dialogue.
