Before starting Life Is Strange 2 Episode 2 it will ask you if you have played this game as it 'enhances your experience' beforehand, so as someone who was invested in the LiS2 story, I thought alright, it seems pretty crucial to understanding upcoming characters and that they must play a large role for them to have their own spin-off game about them. Well, this was probably alright to play before Episode 2 was released to build hype, but I honestly think it was a massive waste of time and I stopped playing halfway through. I'm not going to criticise the gameplay like some of the other reviewers have, because this is Life is Strange we're talking about, we don't play it for the gameplay we play it for the story. So, the game introduces an upcoming character who turns out to be a small side character in Life is Strange 2, and playing this 'expansion' before Episode 2 like it recommends will make you think he plays a much bigger role in the base game than he actually does. Even Cassidy from Ep 2-3(and 5 depending on endings) has more screentime than Chris does. It also clearly makes an effort to bait you into thinking Chris has telekinesis powers like Daniel does. No, he just appears in Ep 2, falsely believes he has powers, and that's literally it. Also, Chris' dad is portrayed completely differently here than in LiS2. Here, he's a horrible drunk deadbeat dad. In LiS2, he's portrayed as a much nicer person. I know this is sometimes the reality for alcohol addicts in real life, but whatever, it caught me off guard to see him as a nice person in LiS2, I was expecting more drama or connection to how he is portrayed here. Nope, no mention of it. I guess a positive is that you can customise how Chris' outfit looks in this, which carries over the actual second episode of LiS2 but that's about it- the rest of the game is literally like roleplaying as a kid doing useless tasks around his house. It's alright at building up to Ep 2, but genuinely, it's heavily unnecessary. There's no point to this game and instead of this, I wish we had gotten more screentime of Chris in LIS2 rather than an unneeded prequel.
