About

The Art of Flight is an homage to 80’s/90’s action arcade games, with a fresh twist on the genre. Forgo traditional live-counters and instead pilot multiple ships simultaneously to take down waves of enemies.
With each run being randomized, and over 60 stages to play through, no two runs will feel the same. Shift your focus from ship to ship as you play out an epic space battle full of moments of sacrifice, comradery, and risk. But don’t let your guard down… When all of your ships are destroyed, it is game over!
The fun does not stop with just single player... Play with up to 4 friends in local co-op. During the flight, if one player loses all their ships, friends can help bring them back to keep the fun going for longer.
A variety of modes are available to discover to keep the completionist in you coming back for more. Compete for the high score against endless waves as you rescue captured ships to grow your squadron and take on mounting challenges.
The order of each episode is randomized to create unique challenges, which force you to pivot how you play. Push further in the game to unlock more power ups and episodes. The Art Of Flight is an inventive arcade shooter that takes familiar shoot-'em-up foundations and transforms them into something refreshingly unique. Developed by Et Al Games and published by Page To Pixel Publishing LLC, the game challenges players to think beyond the traditional single-ship formula by placing them in command of an entire squadron. This core concept immediately gives the game its own identity, creating a blend of fast-paced action, tactical decision-making, and resource management that feels different from many contemporary indie shooters. While it embraces the spirit of classic arcade experiences, it introduces enough modern ideas to stand out on its own merits. The game's most defining feature is its multi-ship control system. Instead of relying on one vessel, players command several ships at once, each contributing to the overall strength of the formation. This mechanic dramatically changes how encounters are approached. Positioning becomes just as important as shooting accuracy, and every surviving ship adds value to the squadron. Losing a craft can significantly alter the flow of a run, forcing players to adapt their tactics on the fly. This creates a constant sense of tension, as players must balance offense, defense, and squad preservation throughout every stage. Replayability is one of the strongest aspects of The Art Of Flight. The game features a large collection of encounters spread across multiple episodes, with randomized progression ensuring that no two sessions unfold exactly the same way. Rather than encouraging players to memorize stage layouts, the design emphasizes adaptability and situational awareness. Each run introduces different combinations of hazards, enemy formations, environmental obstacles, and boss encounters, keeping the experience fresh even after repeated playthroughs. The procedural structure complements the arcade-style gameplay and gives players a compelling reason to return for additional runs. Another standout feature is the Solo mechanic, which temporarily freezes the action for all but one selected ship. This ability adds a surprising amount of strategic depth to the experience. During particularly chaotic situations, it allows players to rescue vulnerable ships, navigate through tight openings, or reposition key units before rejoining the battle. What could have been a simple defensive tool instead becomes an integral part of the gameplay loop, rewarding clever timing and thoughtful decision-making. Mastering this feature often becomes the difference between surviving a difficult encounter and watching an entire squadron fall apart. The variety of gameplay scenarios further strengthens the overall package. Players encounter everything from asteroid-filled environments and dangerous missile attacks to powerful boss battles that demand precise execution. The bosses are especially memorable because they are designed around the game's unique mechanics rather than simply relying on overwhelming firepower. Many confrontations require careful squad management and creative use of abilities, making victories feel earned and satisfying. Combined with a scoring system that rewards efficient and skillful play, the game offers plenty of depth for players who enjoy chasing high scores and mastering advanced techniques. Visually, The Art Of Flight adopts a colorful and clean presentation that prioritizes gameplay readability. The screen can become crowded with enemies, projectiles, and environmental hazards, yet the visual design generally keeps everything understandable. While the graphics may not be the most technically advanced in the genre, they effectively support the gameplay and contribute to the game's arcade-inspired charm. The science-fiction setting provides a fitting backdrop for the action, creating an atmosphere that feels energetic without becoming distracting. The audio design also deserves recognition. The soundtrack dynamically reacts to player actions, helping build excitement during intense moments and adding personality to every run. Instead of serving as simple background music, the audio actively enhances the experience by responding to the pace of the action. This dynamic approach helps maintain immersion and makes successful encounters feel even more rewarding. Sound effects are equally effective, providing clear feedback for combat actions and reinforcing the impact of each battle. Multiplayer support adds another layer of value. Cooperative gameplay allows multiple players to tackle the game's challenges together, creating opportunities for teamwork and shared strategy. Competitive options are also available for those seeking a more direct challenge. The cooperative mode works particularly well because it complements the squad-based mechanics, encouraging communication and coordination among players. Accessibility options such as adjustable game speed further broaden the game's appeal, making it approachable for newcomers while still offering enough challenge for experienced shooter fans. The primary drawback is the learning curve associated with its unconventional design. Players accustomed to traditional shooters may need time to adjust to managing multiple ships simultaneously. The opening hours can feel demanding as players learn how to balance movement, positioning, and survival across an entire squadron. However, those willing to invest the effort will discover a rewarding system that offers a level of depth rarely found in arcade shooters. Overall, The Art Of Flight succeeds because it dares to experiment with a genre that often relies on familiar formulas. Its innovative squadron mechanics, procedural structure, strategic abilities, dynamic soundtrack, and strong replay value combine to create a memorable arcade experience. Although its unique approach may not appeal to every player, it delivers a refreshing and engaging challenge for those looking for something beyond the standard shoot-'em-up formula. Rating: 7/10

the dynamic music is pretty cool i like the power-up variation movement feels good good vibes all around tbh, bogey/10 would recommend
Such a fun game on steam deck. perfect for travel
In these trying times, I appreciate a game that can teach me how to "vibe out in bullet hell."
The fleet of ships is cool, but I also really like the way different types of waves are interleaved during a playthrough. Makes for interesting, unique combos of challenges every time. And there's a ton of wave types. There's also some serious depth to the control mechanics (that I've not mastered). Especially with soloing to pause time and control one ship, there's lots of ways to optimize your damage and survival.
I watched this game grow and change to what it is now an incredibly challenging and visually stunning game, I hope lots people love this game as much as I do.
This game is so juicy. Controlling multiple ships that can split up makes for some really fun gameplay scenarios. This gives me really strong Galaga vibes but amped up to the extreme. I definitely recommend this to any bullet hell fans.
