The Apartment is a small psychological thriller. Interesting mix of first person detective adventure game, puzzle solving, psychological horror and FPS action, all tied together with dark and heavy story where lines between reality and nightmare have no meaning anymore.

Encountered a game breaking bug tied to the auto save system. Behaves like checkpoints. Saves after each segment of an investigation concludes. For me it created a sequence break at the hanging corpse crime scene. Followed by a hard softlock, after I returned to the game mid investigation. Restarting the level doesn't do what it is supposed to, instead loads the last auto save. *Sigh* To resume playing I'd need to delete all my save files manually from the corresponding steam directory. Might return to this, might not... Try the demo first. It is a good vertical slice I believe. The Apartment was pretty ambitious for it's time and place in indie history.
I really like the idea of a first person detective game. So far, fairly decent game for the price. Check out my gameplay video of it for a better idea. https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=N0BDgcrBhGY
This game is about 3 hours long I like the detective gameplay there isn’t anything bad i would say about this game the only thing is there were bits in the game that didn’t seem like it was needed and some of the clue solving didn’t feel like it suited the game if I’m making sense here but overall not a bad game. It did seem like there might be a part 2 coming. Check out my gameplay if you wanna see what it’s about Part 1: https://youtu.be/K5Zb5aAsCzM Part 2: https://youtu.be/gVS28bTjU5k Part 3: https://youtu.be/JiM8j167Y9E
The Apartment is a game which has so many strengths, but doesn't seem to realise where they lie. It's also a game that wants to be at least 5 different things, and while it might achieve them all to varying degrees, it makes for such a confusing and unsatisfying whole that I eventually just checked out. Which is a shame, because for the first few hours at least, I was completely engrossed. Starting out as an investigative thriller with horror elements, The Apartment sets a brilliant tone. Investigating grizzly crime scenes, piecing clues together - the early environments are stunningly detailed, and at times you feel like a genuine investigator. It's also clear from early in the piece that your character isn't a stable one; there's relationship breakdown, substance abuse - all he has left is his work. Again, this is handled really well, and the surrealist interludes that bookend the early investigative segments are brilliant. Finding your way back to the apartment after each investigation is a touch of genius, as you never quite know how you'll get there or what you'll find when you do. Things start to drag a little around the 2/3 mark, and then... Well, the last hour or two is completely ridiculous. It's almost like the devs took everything they had been building towards - all the tension, all of the plot development, all of the increasingly complex investigations - and said "♥♥♥♥ it! Forget the plot! Forget all the things!" What ensues is a barely competent shooter, and the "plot twist" (being generous) that leads to this made me literally laugh out loud. It's one of the dumbest switch ups I've ever seen in more than 20 years of playing games. If you can imagine sitting through two hours of Apocalypse Now, only to get to the Kurtz Compound and have the whole thing turn into a zombie sex orgy, that's kind of where we're at. And you'd be annoyed, right? Because everything preceding that was pretty damn brilliant. So, yeah. I'm sorry. But I just can't recommend this. It's an exercise in building something good and then completely destroying it with cheerful abandon. I'd be happier if it had been trash from the beginning - we could have all saved each other time, money and disappointment.
This is the absolute worst game that I have ever had the displeasure of coming across. This game just kept going on forever to no avail with no rhyme or reason. The puzzles were mystifying and impossible to solve. Yes we want difficult mind bending puzzles but make them solvable and make them make sense. The restarting of the levels was very frustrating as well when you gave us a scenario with nothing to connect the dots and just threw us into a new puzzle. The creators of the game seriously need to go back to the drawing board and work on the story line and the step by step process of the puzzles and how they are supposed to play out. They need to ask themselves, "Does this puzzle make sense? After 3 hours of wasted time and lots of frustration I finally threw the towel in for the night. Would not recommend.
I say I recommend it because I was into the investigative parts (wish there were more) and finding clues and all BUT ... well without getting spoiler-ish things were weird but interesting story-wise, but I feel like the ending went off the rails and spent waaaay too much time being something other than a investigation/psychological thriller. But still not a bad deal at the lower price.
This feels like a little bit hidden gem for me and unique in some way. Crime scene investigation is nice and story is some things good but some plot/levels is very stupid and boring especially game ending is stupid. but if you get this cheap it worth of the money maybe 6/10 nothing very special but playable at least once and mostly enjoyable/interesting. Some mechanics are very buggy and frustrating example when you need to jumping using an object as an platform feels like its luck if you got to up.
