About

The Amusement is a narrative VR adventure game in which you play as Samantha Burkhart. Sent by her mother to check her late-father’s abandoned amusement park, she is quickly facing complex childhood memories, as she uncovers and solves mysteries hidden in the park. Your exploration of the park uses redirected-walking techniques translating every real-life step into the game, creating an intense and fully immersive adventure.

Following her mother’s wishes, Samantha visits the old amusement park left behind by her father for one final inspection: a magnificent maze, the ruins of Atlantis… and of course, a Roller Coaster! Each attraction becomes an opportunity for Samantha to recall fragments of her childhood, marked by the turbulent relationship between her parents, Bridget and Hans. The latter died in the Great War, but still haunts Samantha’s thoughts. The park is heavily inspired by Luna Parks from a 1920s post-war period, providing both the setting and aesthetic of a game in which sorrow and nostalgia are tightly intertwined.

The Amusement is a VR adventure in which you fully embody Samantha, exploring the park as if you were truly there. Interact with the environment and dive into Samantha’s memories to uncover her story. The game uses redirected-walking techniques, translating every real-life step into in-game movement, adding an immersive and intense dimension to the experience.
In addition to walking, The Amusement also offers a variety of locomotion techniques including climbing, swinging, or riding carts. You can climb to dizzying heights or lose yourself in a twisting labyrinth, turning a routine inspection into a multisensory adventure.
A standard 2x2 meter playspace is all you need to walk around freely and explore the game's environments without controller-based movements. Players with smaller playspaces also have the option to explore the park with teleportation or smooth locomotion.

To explore the park and Samantha’s memories, you’ll have to solve various puzzles scattered throughout the attractions. You can pick up and manipulate many objects to search for clues and trigger intricate mechanisms to unlock new paths through the park.
Exciting puzzles, mysteries, and tasks are waiting to be solved — all by elevating the most engaging and fun interactions that VR has to offer.

There is a spark of an idea here, but sadly, I find it lands totally flat. 30 minutes in and I just don't care about anything that's going on there so far. The only word that springs to mind is "lame." The voice acting is lame. The puzzles, if you want to call them that, are lame, the graphics are lame, the room scale thing barely works and I have a sizable play area. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance, but if I don't feel intrigued within the first 30 minutes, I'm out.
The game has potential, but in teleport mode the game is nearly unplayable and annoying, asking you to stand at a certain place and not detecting when you are. The game also lacks volume controlls. Because of these things i can not recommend it so far.

I want to like this game. I really do. It's clear that a lot of love went into it, the visuals are great, and the story, while a bit odd for the setting, is presented well. But the gameplay and the bugs let it down. There are only about 4 different types of puzzles, all of them too easy, and they repeat over and over throughout the game, with very little variation. It starts to feel like a chore, but not even a fulfilling chore, because there is so little challenge. Every time I got to a new challenge, I already knew it was going to be solution A, solution B, or solution C. The incessant use of controller vibration whenever the player touches anything is very distracting, and really needs to be toned down or removed. At one point in the game I was unable to put one of my tools into my inventory. When dropping it (which should return it to inventory), it just kept falling to the ground in slow motion. Knowing I needed this tool, I had to perform various acrobatics to keep holding it while climbing ladders and moving between rooms. Luckily when I took a break in the middle of the game and started it again later, the tool was in my inventory and didn't have to be lugged around anymore. If you're looking for a game that's lovely to look at, but presents little more than a couple of hours of rote puzzles, this may be for you. Otherwise I'd say take a pass.
A series of incredibly simple tasks. Nice artwork and decent (albeit short) story but the entire game could be completed by a 10 year old in a few hours.
There is so much to like about this game. I expands playfully on the 2x2m free roam game and has some wonderful largescale set pieces that wow and suprise especially given the spatial limits. There are a lot mechanics here to make this worth buying. If you are looking for a fun vr game that is a bit different give it a go. Inspite of the folliowing critisisms i still recommend The story is so-so. The 2d cut scenes are badly drawn and all the characters are unlikeable. There is a bug with the vignette setting. It says you can have it on or off but off is actually always on... and on is on when usuing moving platforms which was claustraphobic and imersion breaking. These are easy fixes so hopefully this gets fixed. There is no fixing the terrible character at the end or the half baked end moment. The guide voice is overly helpful especially later on spoiling so moments of discovery...
Tout ce que l'on aime en VR : beaux décors, ambiance prenante, situation unique. Le jeu peut aussi se pratiquer en "roomscale" pur ce qui ajoute à l'immersion. Une belle réussite.
