About
This DLC follows the ending where Jan Scientist stays on the planet. Average playtime is estimated at 20 hours.
Jan Scientist can finally pursue his true calling. While other Jans left, he stayed to lead a team of new specialists - assembled by and from himself. Only a scientific crew of perfectly aligned altered Jan Scientists can offer the expertise needed to unravel the Oasis phenomenon.
Studying nature's survival here in space is a life-defining opportunity. However, this goal-oriented plan of the Jan Scientists might not be so apparent to Jan Geologist, Biologist, Chemist, or Physicist.
The Oasis, a lush paradise that shouldn't exist, becomes the mystery you will obsessively try to solve.
Terraforming the nine arenas unlocks it, forcing the landscape to yield answers. But with each seemingly right step on a research path, the planet responds with implacable earthquakes and radiation, hinting at secrets best left undiscovered.
Your biggest hurdle? Years-long planetary cycles of scorching sunrises that force you underground. Setting a functional underground base requires building in varied soils, constructing new components, and researching modules like the Cryosleep Chamber, which buys time to witness your scientific actions' long-term effects.
Still, even in cryo-slumber, increasingly vicious cycles wear down your crew’s readiness to work.
Each planetary cooldown offers a brief window to freely explore a dramatically changed surface.
Terraformed landscape opens new building possibilities, spawns bonus-providing pickables, and lets you evolve your research-essential technology by extracting and refining new planetary resources. Specialised structures further let you transform, combine, and amplify what you gather.
Field Labs introduce new assignments for alters to continue their work while you cryosleep. But will they change once faced with the vulnerability of ageing?

The research must continue! The gameplay loop is the same but what makes it really stand out is how to story and interactions with your Alters progresses. I had a lotta fun :D
not as good as the base game, but I still enjoyed it the story and the alters of the base game are much better imho i personally dont like the ending(s) (you will understand if you finish the game) some of the gameplay mechanics introduced in the dlc feel a bit wonky and not a 100% thought through the dlc also felt a bit repetetive at certain points alas If you like the gameplay of the base game you will still enjoy the dlc I would say

I liked the original game so much. For me, it was fun and enjoyable to play the DLC, but I think 20 hours is a bit too much for this DLC. I got a little tired of farming resources, and it started to feel more like a routine rather than a fun part of the game. In general, the DLC is still a good addition to The Alters, but I think the original game is much better.
Good dlc. They tried to do as much as they can with what they had and you can see the cracks sometimes but overall great dlc and worth the price.
8/10
LADIES AND GENTLEMEN: THIS IS how you make a good DLC. Absolutely amazing. it continues the story pretty good and innovative by keeping the known gameplay mechanics and adding a few new things without being overwhelming. From the amount of content it could almost be a standalone. I still didnt finish and i played for about 7 hours and it has about 20 hours of gameplay. it makes me sad that the reviews are not over 80% because currently it has 76% and to be honest thats too unfair for the content you get and the price of 15€ is really more than fair! I can recommend to everyone who already liked the main game you definitely wont regret! Promise!
Think people are unnecessarily harsh on the DLC. It's only 15 EUR, and I definitely got my value back for what I spend. Characters are a bit less interesting and the focus is more on the management of things. If you liked the based game primarily due to interacting with the characters it might not be for you.
Really very good. I think I took slightly longer to complete this than the main game. It's true, the alters aren't quite as integrated as the main game, and things get slightly tedious toward the end. But the ending is profound, and for £12, I think this is a steal. Keeps the spirit of the main game, with a twist on something new.
Well Done, Kept me going for awhile, Made Decisions, Enjoyed. Go Get The DLC its worth the playthrough forsure
