it has a great idea but otherwise i'm not sure if it's really worth it, more of a time waster and see some short games and a few somewhat possible secrets. Also at the time of this review the game isnt done since all fragments arent here and the game might be dead
It tries to be philosophical but is just basic thought experiments. The real line in the sand for me was requiring players to join your Discord server just to complete a level. I get what the "point" is (reliance on collaboration) but to be frank, if I'm playing a single player casual puzzle game, I don't want to join a Discord server JUST to go to a channel, get a number from another player, and leave. If I want to play a multiplayer or co-op I would have played a multiplayer or co-op. Why must everything have a Discord.

Претенциозная хрень где нет геймплея и где тебя буллят, показывая тебе твою "ничтожность". Не стоит потрачено времени. Я осилил только 12 фрагментов и даже этого было слишком много.
i met this guy in a discord call and he was screensharing the development of his game. its got a real cool concept, but it just... doesnt work. there is unfortunately nothing in the game
"The 52 Fragments" is a low key asset flip at face value, but it gets worse (yes, it is possible to get even worse than just being a creatively bankrupt collection of other people's game assets). Now, we all know the disastrous consequences of amateur developers getting delusions of grandeur and incinerating $100 dumping garbage on Steam, this happens a lot (roughly 6 times a day, in fact). Worse, however, is when amateur developers with delusions of grandeur get all pretentious about their asset flips... which is what happened here. This was intended to be one of those utter garbage "augmented reality" puzzle games where you interact with clues provided around the place (not just in the game) that were intended to be added over time. One "fragment" per week for a year (hence the "52" in the title). Definitely pretentious, and definitely delusional to think gamers will stick with a garbage asset flip for a whole year. Queue Morgan Freeman voiceover: The developer abandoned the game just four months into the year. Worse, some of the clues were dumped in places where you need to share some potentially personally identifying information, like Discord. Here's a lesson for amateur devs dealing with their delusions of grandeur: You must never require a gamer to do anything outside of Steam to play your trash game. And, of course, there's no guarantee that Discord server will even persist, rendering the game unfinishable even if the developer had bothered to finish it. See why this is such a problem? So some of the 10 commandments of game dev are clearly broken here, but you know, this was another one of those games made for the developer, not for gamers. Despite not being in Early Access, it's obvious this is an incomplete product (promised content, like the clues, not delivered). Developers have an obligation to deliver complete, not partially done products to gamers, that shouldn't be controversial. Whatever the excuses may be, it does no service to gamers for incomplete products polluting Steam like this. It makes it harder for gamers to find complete games, and it makes it harder for ethical developers who do the right thing to find their audience. The game graphics look better than you might expect, but that's just because it looks like some or all of them are "borrowed" from asset stores or wherever. Gamers can tell... and it comes across as insincere. There's also the old adage that those who lack the budget and talent to make their own game assets usually lack the budget and talent to do the rest of the job of game development properly, too. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. In terms of public reception, this failed. There's over 130 million unique gamers visiting Steam every month. SteamDB showed the game peaked at only 4 concurrent players... this is a dismal public reception. This was so bad they couldn't even give it away. Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? This is a "nope". While it won't necessarily cost you money, the time and hard drive space it requires could be better invested in one of the many higher-quality alternatives on Steam.
The 52 Fragments is an enjoyable series of short experimental games with a complicated and at times troubled roll-out. The original concept was that one fragment out of the eventual 52 would drop each week or so, many of which would eventually link together either thematically or literally. For the first bunch, this held true, and many were creative explorations of what gaming could be, but new fragments stopped coming back in 2024 and the game itself has sat derelict for well over a year. As of this edit (Feb 2026), the project appears to be moving once more, at a promised slower pace than originally intended (which to be fair was quite ambitious), and hopefully the dev doesn't stall out once more.
AVIS PERSO
The "games" are pointless and not entertaining in the least. Rating: 1/10
