this game is unpolished and takes an hour to beat, i was able to fall of the map by just walking against a mountain, BUUUUT! the game also has a compelling story and is so vague, it has a great boss fight, good atmosphere and an intriguing new mechanic using dog sledding.
Didn't really piece the story together, but the atmosphere alone makes it worth it
This game isn't long and it looks a little underwhelming on the store page, but it was actually pretty spooky. The imagery and events (especially the final fight) were great. The dialogue and text journals, on the other hand, were drawn out and cryptic. I didn't like that part of the game at all. I know that whoever is writing the journals is probably going crazy, but I really think that the constant use of large words in sentences that don't really add up to any coherent meaning just takes away from the intense feeling of mystery. Instead of wondering what's going on, I'm thinking, "Wow, is this really how a real person would talk? Is this really how someone writes a real person talking?" Everything else in the game is straight to the point which heavily contrasts with the distracting and overly-complicated dialogue; the energy of the dialogue does not match the energy of the events that actually happen. Maybe I'm overthinking it and that's a part of the joke. After all, the person that is writing is a self-admitted "failed writer." Joking aside, it was still a good game and I would like to see more.

I was so engrossed, this is a wonderful short indie gem! The final sequence had me so on edge, SO well done. If you're in the mood for something that's a bit of a slow burn, doesn't explain itself (but does give you the pieces to put together on your own), and lets you pet the dogs, this is for you.
Great game using a jump cutting storytelling. Very well paced, with beautiful views and freezing vibe. Also, dogs are great.
That Which Gave Chase is short and sweet as far as games go, but really solid the whole way thru. Gameplay is very basic, mostly you'll be inspecting things and steering your sled, but the story and atmosphere is delightfully cryptic in a way that kept me immersed the whole time. I would definitely say this is less of a horror game and more like an ominous or unsettling one, so don't expect any huge scares. The story also uses a lot of jump cuts, to great effect I think, but it can make the first run feel pretty confusing if you're not used to nonlinear stories. Only took about an hour and a half for me to finish the game twice and get all achievements, but honestly the 5 bucks is worth it here if you ask me!! Solid experimental indie title. If you're a fan of short stories that leave you with more questions than answers (in a good way), I think this one's got your name on it =))
That Which Gave Chase is a simple and brief, yet great horror game in terms of nailing the look it's going for and the desolate, slow descent into madness vibe it attempts to curate. The music and sound-design, from the howling of the wind, eerie sound of footsteps, and the sliding of the sled across the snow are incredible. Though the gameplay is fairly limited, the game keeps you engaged, quickly moving from scene to scene and allowing you to become immersed in the haunting surreal beauty of the ice-blink and eternal blizzard. You travel with a companion who has much to say via text (he is unvoiced) and remains deeply unsettling throughout the short experience's duration. TWGC was confusing at points and definitely could've stood to gain from including more variety in the game, but for what it is I really enjoyed it. I highly recommend you give this brief psychological horror title a chance, and if you decide to play it enjoy it at night in the quiet solace of your own home.
