I want to say first, I'm a huge fan of the dev, the original mod for King Arthur's Gold, and the community. I played TC1 for hundreds of hours starting in 2018. I ran a clan for the game for years, and moderated as well. I'd like to say I know what made TC1 so fun and addicting. And simply, those features are missing in TC2. TC1 had a quick setup loop, where within minutes one could set up a faction, and quickly battle against other factions for control of the map. Win or lose, within 4 hours at most the map would restart, and everyone was on a fair playing field again. This loop in TC2 is now stretched out to a week, with even just starting a faction requiring tedious mining and making of steel, a feature which is barely explained. That's *if* you got on within a day of the wipe. If not, there's no free steel remaining, so you need to make a forge. Which can't be made without steel. The gun play featured in the trailer runs out quickly, as ammunition is basically an end game resource difficult to make. Unless you spawn in as a secondary character, which is instantly given free guns and ammo, while the factioners toil to make even one bullet. Defending your base against a dedicated attacker is impossible, as you run out of ammo quickly and they can constantly respawn with new armaments. An active, resource-rich map is quickly picked dry and turned into basically a ghost town, as setting up again is too difficult, so players just wait for a wipe again. This is just one of the reasons that TC2 in it's current state is not a functioning multiplayer game. I remade my clan again, and got players together to hop on, but again we're subject to the wipe schedule, which not everyone can make it to. If the gameplay loop is tightened up, ammo either made easier to make or much harder to get, and more guidance given to new joins, then TC2 could be an excellent game. But it's not, and because of that, I cannot recommend TC1 players or totally new players to buy the game.
In the curent state of the comunity i cant recomend the game As of late bug abbuses and offline raiding are a trend and Devman wont adress the problematic team proprely So to come close to rust like toxicity is a milestone, if u value ur time check back on the game in a later date
As others have said, it's confusing, hard to get into and the community is a weird mix of helpful and spontaneously toxic. I'd hold off and give it a few years to bake.
A good game. Really fun. But I can't recommend it because on the public server you WILL get offlined and lose everything in the span of a day. Happened to me and a group of friends back to back. I hope the developer does something about this because it is very annoying and makes the game not fun. Until then, I cannot recommend the game even though it's a good and fun game, but the community is not good.
I can see the amount of effort poured into Territory Control 2 and I feel like it's a game I would really enjoy with enough time. The systems in the game deep and complex, which is really cool since it allows a ton of creativity. However, I can’t recommend it in its current state because that complexity is buried under a very high barrier to entry. The game is currently quite unintuitive and lacks a proper tutorial. While the developers have set up a Discord for help, a community channel shouldn't have to do the things that the game’s introduction and tutorials should handle. With a game this deep, the complexity feels lost to me if the majority of the time you're too busy struggling to understand the basics. I’d love to come back once the introduction and tutorials match the quality of the systems that they are aiming for.
Cannot recommend game in its current state. For background it is wipe based and inherited most of the issues of such a "rust-like" system, but implements none of the solutions. Offlining is common, however due to the core tenant of gameplay being scavenging resources that only generate on wipe, it is nearly impossible to start over mid-wipe after you're offlined because you dared rest or go to work. It is additionally very poorly balanced, and suffers from feature creep as the developer would rather balance via adding additional features or items rather than balance the existing. Developer also manually wipes the only official server, and does so very inconsistently, so you can expect to not play on it for anywhere from 3-5 day stretches. Only an enjoyable experience if you're both unemployed, and never need to sleep. Oh and there is additionally very little guidance, so expect to figure out the rather complex systems on your own. Update: Second largest clan by the name of [Alk] Alkohol has also started hoarding exploits and various glitches and use them constantly to get a leg up during gameplay, very fun!
Look to all of the TC2 community reading my review. This game is a good game. Flippy works on it hard, and I think we should really not be harsh to him, even though I am a lot. The community is the animal kingdom we all love to see. People loving each other. People using meta. People who work together to create new metas. Most of all, the people who want to make the game a better place. I had a good time with this game. Honestly, I did cause a whole lot more chaos than I bargained for hahahah. To the people of HRMA, ALK, and RNF, I want to say something, since Flippy will post this on the Discord as well. We are playing a game. Having such hate towards each other will only make this game worse and lead us down a drain of hurting the ones we love the most. This hate might even consume us, and we will see small pranks turn into massive wars fueled by hate. I am begging all of you. Please change and look at each other's good sides. I have had the pleasure of having a friendly conversation with all of you, with all the factions. We all want the same thing. So, for the sake of each other, let’s please stop this hate that arises from a game and pixels. There is one thing I learned from talking to all of you. You are all actually nice people trying to enjoy something in your own way. EDIT: Leaves the game hoping the review inspires people to change, somehow becomes a messiah for the community instead, and then they immediately find a way to weaponize the new religion to kill even more people like it is the Crusades. 10/10 game.
Im not sure whats going on and not sure Im enjoying it. It seems like there is no reason to play this game solo and there is only 1 official server in EU with 2 human beings online
will be huge when more than 10 people know how to play it
