Unique take on Chess & Tanks, my impression and concerns for the future of this game.
Disclamer: This is a lengthy review in which i cover some of my concerns, For now thumb down it was hard choice don't get me wrong i like the game but its current state is not going to hold! Yes it is in some way Chess like, but not to deep to be brain breaking, which is good and accessible for non chess players. The Kickstarter got off pretty rough if this is due to ineffective marketing or backer desintrest is for debate. But hard fact is as the developing team(s) did not had invested their own money in it, than it would not have reached its funding goal, this sadly shows. So practically they filled the funding gap that was appearing out of their own developing budget, this is noble of them you can say it shows how they wanted it to become a reality, since we got the game yay i quess. Now the question is what was sacrificed, the most obvious, development and content, the launch was bit bumpy due some minor bugs that they could fix fast and did, but still so now and then bugs show but nothing game broken. Aslo what is drastically cut is the content you get for you money, I was shocked to see the asking price for wat it currently is now, I got off chaep by backing it for $15./16. + DLC skin. Now this result is likely to fill the the money lost for dragging their own game over the finish line, making the price tag a whopping € 24,50! It hurts me to say but this is not worth the content you currently get, also the DLC are overpriced for what you get, you can't appreciate the details since there is no zoom option/scroll this due to complications for switch and a mobile version if we ever get that (currently they are debating if mobile implementation is worth it). what you can expect: - There are a total of 8 challenges (Only) - Currently 7 maps to choose from solo/online (gets old fast) - Online mode is crude an not inviting, Hosting is not practical at all you can't make lobbies, games are not turn-based over time and must be played in one go, if you got the time for it. Its is all real-time just as hosting, no wonder that nobody is online the time spent hoping for someone to join is better spent in playing solo. - Not enough variation in stock asset music only 2 are repeating while playing, (i know its stock asset/freeware since the main menu music is the same as Commands & Colors The Great War, from publisher HexWars released 19 jan 2017) This is it, that is all you get (for now) i say for now since as they really care and want to succeed they really need to add more content and quality of life improvements because it's to blent, and will get boring fast for the majority there is not much to offer, challenges don't offer replayability there no AI difficulty settings so gets old fast. Especially with such a price tag expect some customer backlash this is a heads up, i want this game to succeed and to have a future on steam since its a unique take on Chess and Tanks.
Cool game.
Even though I just bought it, I already like it.
