Great and unique roguelike with deep combat mechanics and a focus on build-crafting. Pros: - Highly replayable due to diversity of builds possible. Refining a plan for your character build over multiple runs until you get a win is very satisfying - Deep combat mechanics with a focus on tactical positioning, skill combos, etc. - Lots of lore (I don't care about this personally but many do) - Lots of loot and interesting uniques - Lots of content - Difficult, but only unfair if you choose to make it so - Meta-progression is limited to unlocking new character build options rather than increasing power, so you're building a sense of mastery with each run rather than grinding out long-term power/resources Cons: - Difficulty spikes are wild. there are numerous dungeons that can take a good amount of time to clear, so you will probably use autoexplore a lot as it's pretty easy to faceroll most of them. this unfortunately lulls you into a false sense of safety, which is broken by suddenly get one-shot by a random unique you didn't stop to read all the stats/abilities of. Thankfully the multiples lives in adventure mode makes this not completely end your run, I think there's too much slog to play on Roguelike (1 life) mode as you need to be constantly on-guard despite most of the content being trivial. - Campaign runs are pretty long and slow, and can get a bit samey as you re-run the same dungeons and quests - Some unlocks are RNG-dependent (i.e. some events and dungeons appear only in some runs, and some of those are linked to unlocks)
I think true rogue-likes might not be for me. But if you look at this game and think "Hmm I would totally like this." then I think there's a 100% chance you will. I wasn't sure if I would and after playing it I don't think I am, but I can tell it's a really good game for it's genre. The tutorial is short but shockingly enough to get a good grasp on the game in my opinion. Positioning in combat matters, builds matter and they can differ lots in the same class; there are probably endless builds. The music is awesome and the visuals are nice in their own charming way. This is probably already considered the best of the genre, but if there's anyone who hasn't happened to try this that likes traditional rouge-likes then you should try this. It's a cheap buy and the dev deserves it for the insane amount of content in this game. I just think that I prefer games that focus their depth more on other aspects than the ones that this game focuses on if that makes sense. Not a diss, just a personal preference. This game is a rouge-like and not a sim, there are sim-like elements in combat at times but this game is first and foremost a good traditional rouge-like.
In terms of time to complete a run this is the longest roguelike I've ever played. It took me 6 hours to finish my first run and that's cause I died at like level 20. I'm pretty sure this ♥♥♥♥ goes to 50, long ass ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game for how replayable it is. Also who the ♥♥♥♥ said you need 1800 achievements dude slow down.
ToME is a very nostalgia feel game, yet its new, or newer to me. I love games like this (rouge like) but not many scratch the feel of new and old together. I would say give it a go if you like really old style games, mind you I'm... older for a gamer.
Incontestavelmente bom! 10/10
Very good UX. I really like the mouse gesture hotkey system. It makes the game much more accessible, and chilled to play.
Lots of good fun but refuses to launch past the menu screen on Mac. Why must Steam on Mac be so terrible?
玩下去之后还挺有意思的
