Please follow United Critics for quality reviews
Takeover Review

The Name Threw Me Off
On paper, this game sounds like a wild, action-packed ride with powerful female protagonists, cyborgs on the loose, and, let’s be honest, some fan-service thrown in for good measure. But once you dive in, it’s more of a takeover of your patience and sanity than anything else. Here’s why:
About This Game

Storyline
The basic premise of Takeover could have been awesome. You play as Fubuki, a super-skilled agent with some fancy cybernetic powers and a sword that can cut through anything (including robots and humans—fun, right?). Cyborgs have rebelled against their creators, EXE Corp, and are now threatening the city, led by one particularly emotional AI. You’re thrown into this mess to stop the uprising. It’s a familiar but decent setup. However, the execution of the story feels...barely there. There’s just enough plot to give you a reason to fight things, but don’t expect much in the way of engaging cutscenes or character development.
Gameplay Mechanics
Let’s get into the gameplay, which is where things really start to fall apart. The game kicks off with this attempt at stealth where you’re sneaking through an industrial complex, avoiding patrolling cyborgs. Sounds fine, right? But the reality is that the cover system feels clunky and unresponsive. You think you’re hidden, but suddenly you discover that you can’t attack, and enemies catch you out of nowhere. There’s no real sense of direction either—you're just kind of wandering and hoping you’re doing the right thing. Then comes the combat, which is supposed to be the highlight. You finally get to unsheathe your sword and take on cyborgs… except it’s a complete mess. The fighting is anything but smooth, with sluggish controls that make every move feel like it’s happening a second too late. Hitting enemies doesn’t feel satisfying at all, and half the time, you’re not even sure if your attacks are landing because the camera angles are so wonky. It’s like the game is actively trying to stop you from enjoying it. And those unlockable skills? They should be exciting, but with how broken the combat is, they just become a chore to use. To top it off, there’s a rage meter that’s supposed to let you unleash devastating combos once it fills up. In theory, this could add some excitement, but by the time it’s ready, you’re probably too frustrated with the janky controls and awkward camera to care. It's supposed to be endless waves of fun, but it’s more like an endless cycle of awkward button-mashing.
Visuals and Audios
The visuals are passable at best. The character models are decent, especially Fubuki and her squad, but the environments are bland and uninspired. The industrial complex where you spend most of the game looks like something out of a PlayStation 2-era bargain bin. Combine that with the game’s constant frame drops, and the whole thing looks and feels rough. The performance is bad enough that it ruins any visual charm the game might have had. The main thing that makes this game fall under the NSFW Category is the Dynamic Clothes System. It’s marketed as this NSFW selling point where your clothes get destroyed as you take damage, leaving you in lingerie. It doesn’t add anything to the gameplay and it feels like they just included this so that the game is considered NSFW. The audio is forgettable, too. The music doesn’t really add much to the atmosphere, and the sound effects are lacklustre. When you’re swinging a sword that can cut through cyborgs like butter, you expect some satisfying thwacks and clangs, but instead, it’s like tapping a spoon against a cereal bowl.
Pros

The concept is kind of cool—cybernetic powers, sword fights, cyborgs. What’s not to love? (In theory, at least)
Fubuki and her team look stylish (when they’re not randomly losing clothes).

Cons

Horrible frame drops and choppy performance ruin the experience.
Stealth and combat mechanics are janky, frustrating, and feel unfinished.
The camera fights you more than the enemies do.
No real direction or guidance, leaving you confused half the time.
The NSFW “dynamic clothes” system feels like a cheap gimmick.
The story doesn’t do much to keep you engaged.

Conclusion
In a game like Takeover, you’re supposed to feel like a badass—cutting through hordes of cyborgs with precision and power. Instead, you feel like a clumsy character in a broken world, trying to make sense of a mess of awkward mechanics, poor performance, and shallow fan-service. What could’ve been a fun hack-and-slash romp with some cool ideas is instead a glitchy, frustrating disaster that needs a serious overhaul. Unless you’re here for the awkward lingerie mechanic (and honestly, even that’s not worth it), you’re better off skipping this one. Rating: 3/10 Promised unlimited fun, but delivered unlimited frustration.
First 20 Minutes Gameplay Here I had really high hopes when I first received the game. Sadly, either there was something I couldn't overcome or it's an unfinished game. I tried to "play" the game but just couldn't overcome the first part which seemed like a loop for me. The graphics (characters) looked nice but other than that? Pretty nothing much. I don't like giving thumbs down but this game sadly is one of them. Maybe I'll change my view of this game if I can get past the first part.
Takeover is a game that struggles to have an identity. The stealth aspect is not really stealth but a repeating cycle of avoiding androids to eventually fight more androids to destroy a generator. The combat is somewhat interesting but a little frustrating, maybe with a little polish it can be improved. I, on several playthroughs zipped outside the map to break the game! On my first run it confused the heck out of me. Hopefully the Devs can improve upon what is good and turn a frustrating, repetitive mess into a decent combat game. 👎 Interesting idea, bad execution
