I just can't bring myself to go on with this, so my review is sadly from just one hour playing time - prologue and start of Red's route. The prologue already was painfully weird - confusing and boring at the same time, I was so happy when it was over. But when the story really started it was so damn weird again! For example they are sitting together, drinking tea at her house, because he's a police officer investigating her case (she got a threatening letter) - he's doubting the sincerity at first then revealing he already brought his stuff with him to spend the next days and nights with her - yeah, right, maybe would be nice if police really sent you a bodyguard on a whim. So.... oookay. For the sake of setting up a nice possible romance we'll let this slide. So then they procede to introduce themselves. Wait a sec... introduce? He came to her house, sat down and drank her tea without ever mentioning his name?? And the weirdness just goes on from there. I know they have different customs in Japan than in Europe but they are both acting not along japanese customs either, the dialogues are just really strange from every perspective. Not in a funny deliberate way sadly, just in a "What? Why would you say that??" way. After a while I just couldn't take anything seriously anymore and had to stop. The worst thing is: I bought all episodes in a bundle a long time ago, so no refund possible anymore. I'm an idiot.
I honestly don't even know where to start. I have always been a fan of Otomes and visual novels so I am constantly on the lookout for games with a good story and a pretty art style that I can genuinely enjoy but obviously options on Steam are kind of...limited (Especially with English translations). Whenever I searched for Otomes, this game ended up pretty high on my list and based off the reviews (which I did not actually read but still took into account), I decided to buy the first episode on sale to give it a try (bc honestly paying so much money just isnt justifyiable to me). The art is great. The rest is...I don't know. Most of the time I feel like this game doesn't take itself serious despite the description and literally everything around it seeming more than serious. The romance...wasn't really there. The things that were sometimes said by me or other characters had me gagging. In a sense, it was funny, which is great if that is what you are looking for but I wanted a serious, romantic experience with a good story and it really did not deliver. Most of the times, I was super annoyed by how obnoxious the mc was with her finger guns and other weird things she'd done. The other times, I was simply left speechless with what other characters said in return. The story itself seems to be maybe kind of deeper but probably only if you buy all episodes. This episode alone lacked in my honest opinion...depth. I played the Red Riding Hood route and I hated that the mc character literally has a stalker and seemed like she couldn't care less about it. She was actually kind of hyped with how exciting that could be and I could not relate at all. I don't know...maybe I had too high expectations when I approached this game but I definitely won't be getting the next episodes. So yeah, if you want to play an Otome game to laugh about it, knock yourself out. Maybe stream it to some friends. If you do, however, want a serious and romantic one, maybe stay away from it. Also, do not be fooled by my play hours. I think I was AFK for half of it, doing other things.
The game isn't even bad. There is definitely a higher quality than most otome/VN around on Steam. That said, despite the story not being remotely bad or uninteresting, I just couldn't go past a certain point because the heroine is way too unrelatable. She's obnoxious, frustrating, clearly has no sense of consent or respect or even an ounce of intelligence. None of her lines are relatable or interesting, they are just written like bland text trying to create playful banter that instead ends as a nightmare of boredom and anger for the player. I don't know if the writer tried to make her be the kind and slightly nosy type, but sadly, it only succeeded at making her plainly annoying, and because it is a VN, this is impossible to enjoy the game with an insufferable heroine. I wanted to like it... But it's impossible. And it doesn't matter if everything makes sense later in the story and she potentially becomes bearable, this intro is too much for me to persevere.
Absolutely slayed the concept, 10/10 will recommend
