4/10 TBS in the style of Wargroove and Advanced Tactics TLDR: seems to be a learning project of some students. While the online multiplayer must have been hell to implement, the game doesn't even get to that stage and fails in basic things: clumsy controls and ugly looks. I hope somebody learned something making this. There is a lot of work gone into the game but it's all half-baked, rough and uneven. For an actual release, one needs to playtest things and try to get artistic unity even if there are many people involved. Good: - free - cute idea to have cats as characters, some UI elements have nice imaginative pieces that are cat-themed - overall, Wargroove-like combat system: you capture bases to produce about a dozen unit types that move on a grid So-so: - there are voice-overs when you select or give orders to units but they are recorded unprofessionally. The quality of the sound is low, and it's annoying. Also, the voices just aren't varied enough. In the 1st tutorial mission, I was hearing the same 2 phrases over and over when selecting the leader character Bad: - clunky controls. I'm not sure if it's a bug but I had to often click twice on characters to select them. No way to see which units have already moved. I don't remember how Wargroove played but the need to select "Attack" every time you want to attack feels uncomfortable. I'd expect to just click on an enemy unit to attack - no animations for retaliation attacks. I initially thought enemies don't attack back - ugly color palette of the 3d scene. Low-poly models look generic and "lazy", there are no faces. I guess the devs should have just made a 2D game instead because 3D is pointless here anyways, the game plays on a 2D grid. The camera doesn't even rotate, so the skewed 3D view doesn't give any benefits. - in the tutorials enemies don't move at all? Feels like a bug - the 2D characters in the "codex" (wiki) are quite poorly drawn. The UI is actually uneven: some elements look like stubs where others are pretty detailed

[th]I'm a Steam curator, you can follow me[/th]

Note: Dead PvP game This game contains no meaningful single player content. There's no viably populated servers/active player population. This game cannot be played as intended.
This is a simple turn based tactical strategy game with no players, because it was designed for furries, and apparently could be a student project instead of being a fully, properly developed game. The idea is that you do turn based tactical battles with a handful of units on a square grid. You can improve your chances of winning by capturing artifacts, but let's face it, nobody plays this because it's junk. It's a dead PvP game, and it's time for us to have a post-mortem to see some of the reasons this failed. Almost every PvP exclusive game on Steam fails. Only a tiny proportion of them "go viral". This game failed for many of the same reasons those others fail. The chief of which is the developer thinking that their game will "go viral" without actually creating any reason for it do so. There's fierce competition in the PvP game arena... and I'm not referring to players fighting other players. There's thousands of PvP-only games but only a tiny handful of them are successful enough to attract and keep a wide player base. This game failed to compete and didn't get enough people to stay active. Despite being free, it did not have what it takes, it's as simple as that. First and foremost, there's no meaningful single player content. The developer gambled that other players would be an acceptable substitute for adding storytelling, level design etc to the Game. They lost that bet. Without a huge community of players or single player content to add a lasting value to the game, the game dies. Developers must learn that other players are not an acceptable substitute for adding content to a game. Itch has one job, and it's not a hard job, but they failed again... to keep amateur stuff in their weird hugbox where everyone claps and says "Good job!!!" at every bit of amateur drivel (which nobody actually plays) and away from gamers. Unfortunately this has leaked out onto Steam platforms and now gamers have to put up with yet another bit of poorly made amateur shovelware. On the important subject of visuals, this features fairly low quality stylised/cartoony low poly 3D graphics. It comes across as the kind of thing you see on mobile phones and Nintendo games, which will deter a lot of PC gamers, understandably. Gaming is a visual medium, and to be considered one of the best games on Steam, the graphics have to be some of the best on Steam. That's not happening here. Let's look at the price and what kind of value this actually offers gamers. This is "free" enough (not every "free" game in the "free" section is truly free, there's usually some hidden price tag), at least you won't be expected to spend any more money after you download this, but just because something is free doesn't mean it's good, and the cost of a game is more than just financial, your time is valuable too. Even as a free game, this couldn't find an audience. With a peak of only 3 players, it's clear the Steam community took one look and walked away. They literally couldn't pay people to spend time playing this. All other issues aside (any of which would disqualify this from being worth your time), this is a game that relies on other players for it to be viable, and because there's not enough players, it's not viable. I can't recommend anyone downloads this, it's basically dead.
It's not an awful game, but it seems a bit broken. If I want to pause during my turn to look up specifics on a character when I have a timer on during single player, the timer will keep going and even end my turn early. If there is no timer, the AI will not even move the character and it will stay stuck on "enemy turn". I haven't even been able to finish a tutorial game because it will randomly stay stuck on "enemy turn" as well. I do enjoy the cute characters and the premise of the game, but a successful game only happens after at least 2 "broken" plays where I will have to exit out the match.
