Tails Noir: Rebel Rush is an addictive arcade driving game with some imaginative platforming and a great soundtrack.
I was pretty much glued to Rebel Rush from start to finish and played it over a couple of nights. It is incredibly addictive if you like chasing times and enjoy driving games. It is presented nicely with a half decent story holding the levels together which is animated in a sort of visual novel fashion. The driving can feel a little frustrating at times, but it is all part of the charm, and if you do make a mistake you can reset and get back into the driving almost immediately. I hate it when you have to wait to get back into the action, but in Rebel Rush you can just keep trying without any delay whatsoever, and there is a reason why one of the achievements is for restarting 250 times, and you will reach that quite soon. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3353290108 The game is perfectly balanced so that you need precision and skill to succeed but not too difficult that it becomes frustrating. Attempts generally improve as you learn the tracks, and there are some very clever shortcuts that are really not obvious to find. When you are convinced that you have achieved the fastest time possible, one look at the leader board will tell you that there is a shortcut somewhere you haven't found, and when you do find them it is immensely satisfying. I found myself completing tracks but continually trying to better my time by finding faster routes and climb the friends and global boards. There are set times for one, two, and three stars to beat, which can be very challenging. There are also three hearts to collect on every track in some wickedly difficult places. Some I just looked at and thought how on Earth am I going to get those? There are a few different elements to the driving experience depending on what level you are driving on. The car is always able to do a single jump on the ground, and can easily turn direction in mid air. This is often needed to correct your trajectory as you are flying through the air. You can pick up buffs to your car like another jump to make your car do a double jump, or a dash, so that you can jump over large gaps. Once you have used the buff it disappears and you will need to pick up another one to use it again. Later, you can use freeze to freeze the water and travel on it for a few seconds before it disappears. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3353750810 Although sometimes I wasn't particularly happy with the physics, and there were a few choice words shouted out at the screen, overall the driving is solid and enjoyable. Most of the frustrating occasions tended to be when I landed on a slope or when the car landed from a long jump and span out. I wasn't always convinced that the car should have behaved the way it did, but it doesn't ruin the fun, and has you trying again and again until you get it right. Some of the courses are massive and then again these massive courses can only be twenty-five seconds long if you find the right path. The courses are cleverly designed and a bit whacky sometimes with loop to loops and driving on the side of buildings. It can take a few trial and error runs to even find a way to the finish line but I never got stuck on any course and most of them are quite linear in fashion. You just have to be a little creative with your short cuts. If you are after a challenge then try to complete the very last track. You will need to complete all tracks before that one to get to it, because stars unlock tracks, but It is an amalgamation of all the tracks in one go and will last around six minutes. I keep getting killed on the same spot at the end and once you crash you have to start from the beginning. I think that's the reason why only 4% have finished it. Getting three stars and three hearts on each level is also very difficult, so besides beating leader board times, there is also a challenge there if you are a completionist. You can easily get to the final course by doing reasonably well on most levels though. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3353750922 Whilst you are driving there is a really nice soundtrack playing in the background. I loved the more melancholic tracks but there was one that was a bit hectic for me so I had to turn it down using the sliders in the settings. The visuals don't look the best to be honest, apart from the sunsets which look lovely, and they look a bit ugly but are perfectly functionable.
🍳Conclusion🍳

If you enjoy driving games and/or platform games whilst beating times to progress, then I think you will love Tails Noir: Rebel Rush. It is such an addictive game and will have you trying and trying again to beat times and get collectibles. It really is a lot of fun. I think the game is very reasonably priced and would certainly recommend it.

Curator Info:
Thank you for reading my review. Different than anything else, and totally underrated. You unlock the next level by time trial, which was difficult for me, there is a really narrow window of only a few seconds (the levels should be already unlocked). There's no easy mode, wouldn't work with the obstacle course aspect. The fun part is collecting hearts, 3 hidden per level, that may or may not lead you to a shortcut. You have to steer off course at top speed on purpose. Like a movie stunt driver. It is listed as precision platformer, expect to get the physics of the car exactly right, especially in the air. You don't take any damage from the cop cars or other obstacles, You don't upgrade any features of the car. The car is heavy and slow, the controls work fine. Fall off and you start from the beginning of each level, no checkpoints. It does make landing the stunt jumps feel impressive. Advertised as 4-6 hours of gameplay, I think it's a unique, creative, well made game.
This game is incredibly fun. This being the case despite - never having played the tails noir series - not enjoying speedrunning - not enjoying racing games - being pretty bad at platforming games despite all that I enjoyed playing this game so much. And the soundtrack is absolutely incredible I want to listen to it all the time. The art is really pretty too and the characters are super fun.
neon white with cars, made for furries!
A great game for arcade racing fans! The controls are simple and responsive, and jumping over obstacles while pulling off maneuvers adds a lot of excitement. Every race keeps you on your toes, and you’ll want to replay tracks to beat your own score. Perfect for short gaming sessions. Highly recommend!
It's a well-designed indie game with nice price. Not really relate to Backbone's story, but a good small game to play.
This was really fun. My beloved Trackmania from the childhood and Neon White from adulthood made a great baby. I would love to see a bit more fun and polished writing in some DLC or something, but it's okay all in all. Music though is dope AF! The game is replayable pretty much and generally feels good. Keep going fellas!
