It's like the first game. but with less content and more buggy!
Frustrating in the most entertaining way possible. Yargh! I shall survive!!!!!
great game also the fps version looks great, add more free mods and stuff
Worthy sequel to one of my fav games of all time. If you like the first Pit, then you'll almost certainly find the same enjoyment in the sequel. A well made 3D take on the Pit formula works very well and many of the irritations people had with the original's mechanics have been solved. Great game, Great dev.
Sword of the Stars: The Pit 2 is an ambitious sci-fi roguelike that seeks to modernize a cult classic while preserving the harsh, methodical survival experience that defined its predecessor. Developed and published by Kerberos Productions, the game reimagines the original Pit’s turn-based dungeon crawling in a fully 3D environment, expanding both scale and complexity. Set within the Sword of the Stars universe, it frames each run as a desperate descent into an ancient alien facility rumored to hold the cure for a devastating plague. From the start, the game makes it clear that survival is never guaranteed, and that careful planning, patience, and adaptability are far more valuable than raw aggression. Gameplay revolves around turn-based exploration and combat, with each step into the Pit carrying potential risk. Players select from several distinct character classes, each defined by different strengths, weaknesses, and starting equipment. These classes dramatically shape how a run unfolds, whether through combat proficiency, technical skill, crafting efficiency, or survival-oriented abilities. Progression is slow and deliberate, with skills improving through use and survival rather than rapid leveling, reinforcing the sense that every decision matters. Permadeath remains a core pillar of the experience, ensuring that tension never fades, even after hours of play. Combat in The Pit 2 is tactical and unforgiving. Positioning, line of sight, weapon choice, and resource management all play critical roles in determining the outcome of encounters. Ammunition, medical supplies, and consumables are limited, forcing players to constantly weigh whether a fight is worth the risk or if avoidance is the smarter option. Enemies grow increasingly dangerous as you descend, introducing new behaviors, resistances, and abilities that demand changing strategies rather than reliance on a single build. Even seemingly minor encounters can become lethal if approached carelessly. Exploration is equally tense and layered with danger. The Pit is procedurally generated, filled with environmental hazards such as radiation, disease, traps, and starvation mechanics that punish reckless movement. Loot discovery is a major motivator, with a wide variety of weapons, armor, tools, and alien technology to uncover. Crafting and item disassembly add depth to this loop, allowing players to break down unused gear into components and assemble specialized equipment tailored to their playstyle. This system encourages experimentation and long-term planning, as the right crafted item can dramatically alter a run’s trajectory. Visually, the shift to full 3D marks a significant evolution for the series. While the graphics are functional rather than flashy, the three-dimensional environments improve spatial awareness and immersion, making the Pit feel more like a real, hostile place rather than a series of abstract rooms. Lighting, sound design, and environmental detail work together to create an atmosphere of isolation and dread, reinforcing the game’s survival-horror undertones without relying on scripted scares. The interface is dense but information-rich, reflecting the game’s complexity and its expectation that players engage deeply with its systems. As an early access title, Sword of the Stars: The Pit 2 shows both promise and rough edges. Balance issues, pacing concerns, and class viability can vary between updates, and some mechanics may feel uneven or opaque, particularly for newcomers to the roguelike genre. However, Kerberos Productions has demonstrated a willingness to iterate and refine based on community feedback, treating the game as a living project rather than a static release. This ongoing development means the experience continues to evolve, for better or worse, depending on player tolerance for change. Ultimately, Sword of the Stars: The Pit 2 is a demanding and deeply strategic roguelike designed for players who appreciate high-stakes decision-making and slow-burn progression. It does not cater to casual play or instant gratification, instead rewarding persistence, knowledge, and careful experimentation. While its early access state and steep learning curve may limit its appeal, those willing to invest the time will find a rich and punishing experience that honors its legacy while pushing the concept forward. For fans of tactical roguelikes and the Sword of the Stars universe, it stands as a challenging descent into one of science fiction’s most hostile dungeon crawls. Rating: 6/10
Not as good as the original.. but getting there.
Like someone already said; "It's the Pit in 3D!"
