I like sushi, and I like cats. However even on lowest settings with a decent spec , I keep freezing and crashing at waves 70+ on faster speeds (maybe it's one of those curve balls where newer hardware struggles on old things, idk) Maybe, if you gave me an option to stop idle animations of my 200+ towers, you could be saving some ressources for the attack animations on later waves. Or my go to basic recommendation would be to reduce number of incoming enemies and bumping up their HP by an equal amount +/- some percentages to make up for the AoE/singletarget offset. If you give players an endless mode (and really you should since everything is so super basic that fiddling with replays will get boring quickly), make sure it keeps running smoothly in performance. I'm sure if you looked at other similar games, or asked your AI of choice, you can gather a few more suggestions to reduce the CPU spikes. Game is fun for... one evening, or *looks at playtime* two evenings. I'd price it at 3-4 euros for that level of complexity and clunkyness. Also gacha machine is annoying in its animation and absolutely kills the pacing to a rate in which I prefer not spending my coins at all. Fastest speed also still feels slow. But... don't bump this up before the performance isn't stable. Starting with wave 120 now I don't get any upgrade cards anymore. I suppose devs didn't even expect or care for anybody to reach that far. Can not disable screenshake during boss waves, negatives just keep adding up now.
I cant BELIEVE I am playing a new sushi cat game in the big 26 !!!! Also if you think this is too hard, skill issue, i got to wave 15 in the first 30 minutes playing the game ALL HAIL THE KING! ALL HAIL SUSHI CAT !!!
It's decent enough, probably not quite worth a tenner so get it on sale. It's missing some pretty standard features in the UI, that are more than a little strange to not have in 2026. Despite having roguelike upgrades, you can't see what you've selected in run anywhere. Despite being a tower defense, you can't click on the enemies to see their current health or any resistances they may have or any effects they're under. Tower range increases only seem to show SOME of the time on the range indicators. The game also definitely has caps that you can eventually hit, but you aren't told about them anywhere. I still can't figure out if there's an attack speed boosting cap, or if it's a cap on boosting at all. Some of the things definitely work differently on bosses, like poison, but that isn't stated anywhere. None of that's a BIG issue, but it's all honestly really basic things that shouldn't be going on in a modern game. And the game isn't so fantastic or unique in other ways as to excuse that. It's a really bog-standard tower defense, with the really standard tower types you'd expect in any tower defense game. It doesn't really take a genius to go 'Hey, let's make a flamethrower tower!' after all. The in game slot machine thing is also... Frankly it's trash. I'd like to be nicer about it, but there's really nothing nice to say about it. The rewards it gives you are often useless, some of them seemingly by design. One of them heals you for 50HP... Except with maxed upgrades your cap doesn't hit 50HP, and it won't overheal you, so you literally never get full value out of that. It grants you little traps... That it places randomly, rather than giving them to you. Since MOST of the map isn't part of your path, and they have very minimal effects, odds are that these will basically never be of use to you. The balance isn't exactly great either. I won't say it's out-and-out terrible, but some of the rougelike 'upgrades' are actually incredibly bad, and some of the towers are simply directly worse than their nearest counterparts. The between run upgrades are also comically expensive to max out when they really shouldn't be. I would say buy it on sale for a little bit of gameplay and the funny cat towers, but it's not really a game you're going to be playing for longer than a week. Hopefully it updates with some improvements.
One of the most fun tower defense games i've played recently. The path changing gameplay is something i haven't seen before and it adds a layer complexity that I enjoy.
Was this crap even tested ? stupid hard when you begin to simply ... stump your progress. you need to make 20 runs of 2 levels before you get enough gem to unlock the tower which allows you to make it out of the 3rd run. it's just stupid.
i absolutely adore the sushi cat franchise so seeing this game release was a delight! overall, a really fun tower defense game that makes you think about each move more carefully than most tower defense games. it was hard at first but once you figure out an optimal strategy, the game becomes relatively easy, even on normal mode, but it's still a challenge at times which i like. however, i feel like with the lack of art and story, this series doesn't capture the sushi cat branding very well. i feel like with this game, the art style doesn't remotely compare to older sushi cat with the refined lines and clean artwork. the 3d models are visually appealing but the other art doesn't really scream "sushi cat" to me and it feels too polished. i hope that more story elements become apparent and that when you get to certain checkpoint waves, you get to see more story elements with that classic sushi cat style. it would be nice to see a legacy mode toggle for the old and new art if that were a feature!
Cute and colorful tower defense game where you use cats to fight off waves of sushi. Sort of RNG based with map having different placement of buffs and blockades. Not a lot of replayability due to there being just a single level, some meta progression and very little build variation.
UPDATE: my new review is positive, I changed it from before. After seeing how quickly the devs listened to our comments (literally in less than 24 hours), I believe they deserve our money and time. I was struggling with the TD aspect with making the "maze" thing. After the learning curve, I am having a lot of fun! Some things I like: The remapping aspect is very creative and keeps the game feeling fresh. I like how it encourages us to adapt with the bonus tiles and stuff. The incremental part is fun as well, although it's pretty standard for a TD game. Critiques/suggestions: I do not fully love the gatcha aspect, because of how the healing is randomized. Sometimes I get a 25hp heal when im at full health, and others, I am waiting for a heal and never get it. I think it would be really cool if we could either choose a healing or a buff gatcha, or offer some other sort of healing on the side to prevent us just saving our gatchas for later, cuz I did die a few times without using the gatcha, waiting for my health to go down but ultimately wasting it. An undo/redo button would also be really great, given that a lot of the mapping involves hovering over the boxes, removing them, and just trial and error stuff in general. It would make the flow a lot more fun. It would be cool to have a more in depth tutorial on how the boxes would work. I did not understand how important the remapping aspect was and only put a few boxes, leading me to fail. Steam imput support would be really nice as well! I'm playing on the deck and it's ok, but it would be even better if the controller support was fully there ;) A pausing option and a half speed option would be useful as well. Nitpicks: Some skins could be cool! Some people were upset about how there is only one map. I think an easy fix would be changing the hue of some assets (like the cat and the overworld/props). It would give more incentive to play as well. I would also love to have some sort of item that can let us choose where the path of the sushi will change to? A difficulty slider (probably easy, medium, hard, etc) could also be a relatively simple fix to the people who have a problem with how hard/easy it is? Also I think that the cat's ultimate power is a bit underpowered for how rarely it activates. OLD REVIEW: (was previously not reccomended): Am i the only one who actually finds it too difficult? I've been trying for a few hours and I still cant get past level 10 or so... Aside from the difficulty, the game really does feel like an early access so far, and I would be happy to give a positive review if there was more gameplay. And yeah, im doing the map maze thing with the boxes to extend the paths, but for some reason I am still stuck. I genuinely dont know what im doing wrong. the prices of the turrets and boxes just get too high at a certain point, and the paths never change in ways I actually want them to. It just feels too heavily reliant on RNG and maybe I have been too unlucky. Often near level 10, when i try to modify the paths, it just makes the path shorter, and I give up on trying to guess how to balance it out. It's not fun. It might be a skill issue but it definitely does not feel like I am able to gain any skills to actually get better. it just feels like I keep restarting in order to finally get lucky, and it never happens. For now, I would wait on buying it unless you're a diehard fan of the franchise, are rich, or REALLY want a tower defense game right now. I guess wait for a sale? Really sad about this.... :( (also, beware that you lose your demo progress when buying the main game, and I have played the demo a few more hours than 1, so it just doesnt show here)
