Very cute and very buggy
Really fun, though at times the physics feels like it's getting the better of me. Still, enjoyed the plots you go through and the outcomes you reach, plus it's just fun to spin
It's literally a perfect game. Gameplay is really fun. Simple to learn, hard to master. The design is beautiful, down to the smple touches in the dialogue bubbles. The world is immersive. Soundtrack is awesome. The style is unique. Everything fits together perfectly. A standout and one of my favorite games now.
Very cute. It reminds me of a mix between Animal Crossing + those GBC Mario Tennis/Golf games + Getting Over It (but way more forgiving). I really like the amount of character everything has and the climbing is both active and not too challenging. Haven't tried the co-op yet but I bet it would be fun too and not as yell-at-your-friends as other games that are similar.

Is super fun while still a little challenging and engaging!
Surmount: A Mountain Climbing Adventure is a delightful indie platforming experience developed by Jasper Oprel and Indiana-Jonas and published by Indiana-Jonas. Built around the simple concept of climbing a gigantic mountain, the game transforms that premise into a memorable adventure filled with physics-driven challenges, exploration, humor, and a surprising amount of personality. Rather than focusing on realism, Surmount embraces a playful approach that encourages experimentation and rewards persistence, making every climb feel like a unique story of success, failure, and discovery. The core gameplay revolves around ascending the massive Mount Om using a movement system based on physics and momentum. Players must grab ledges, swing across gaps, and carefully navigate increasingly complex terrain while dealing with the unpredictability that comes with the game's mechanics. This creates a constant sense of tension because every movement matters, yet the controls remain approachable enough for newcomers. Reaching a difficult ledge after several failed attempts feels genuinely rewarding, while unexpected slips and tumbles often lead to humorous situations instead of frustration. The mountain itself becomes both the game's setting and its greatest challenge, continuously testing the player's adaptability. One of the strongest aspects of Surmount is how it combines handcrafted design with procedural elements. As players progress higher, they encounter a wide variety of environments, obstacles, and surprises that prevent the adventure from becoming repetitive. Exploration is encouraged through hidden areas, optional routes, and encounters that reward curiosity. The mountain feels alive with opportunities to wander off the main path, making the journey to the summit as important as the destination itself. This sense of freedom helps create an experience that feels larger and more dynamic than its relatively straightforward premise might initially suggest. The game's narrative takes a lighthearted approach, introducing a cast of eccentric characters scattered throughout the mountain. These individuals provide amusing conversations, side activities, and bits of world-building that add charm to the adventure. The writing never takes itself too seriously, which fits perfectly with the game's colorful atmosphere. Instead of relying on dramatic storytelling, Surmount succeeds by creating a cheerful world filled with quirky personalities that make the climb more enjoyable and memorable. Visually, the game adopts a vibrant cartoon art style that complements its whimsical tone. The bright environments and expressive character designs help establish an inviting atmosphere from the very beginning. While the graphics are relatively simple, they are polished and full of character, giving each region of the mountain its own identity. The visual clarity also serves an important gameplay function, making it easier to read terrain and plan routes while climbing. Combined with a relaxing soundtrack, the presentation creates a pleasant and uplifting adventure that remains engaging throughout its duration. Another highlight is the cooperative mode, which allows two players to tackle the mountain together. The addition of a rope connecting both climbers creates opportunities for teamwork, coordination, and plenty of comedic mishaps. Cooperative play changes the dynamic considerably, as players must communicate and work together to overcome obstacles that might be simple in solo play. The result is an experience that can be equally rewarding and hilarious, making it a great option for friends looking for a cooperative challenge. Surmount also includes character customization, achievements, and additional objectives that provide extra motivation to continue exploring. These features help extend the game's longevity and give completionists more reasons to revisit different parts of the mountain. While the primary objective remains reaching the summit, the additional content ensures that players can enjoy the adventure at their own pace without feeling rushed toward the end. The game's main drawback is that its physics-based movement can occasionally feel inconsistent. There are moments when a seemingly simple maneuver goes wrong due to an awkward interaction with the environment, leading to an unexpected fall. Players seeking absolute precision may find these situations frustrating, especially during more difficult sections. However, much of the game's appeal comes from embracing this unpredictability, and many players will likely view these moments as part of the experience rather than a serious flaw. Overall, Surmount: A Mountain Climbing Adventure delivers a refreshing blend of exploration, platforming, and comedy. Its charming presentation, inventive mountain design, entertaining physics system, and enjoyable cooperative mode come together to create an adventure that stands out among indie platformers. The journey to the top is filled with memorable moments, and the game's emphasis on fun over frustration makes it accessible to a wide audience. While the occasional control inconsistency may cause minor setbacks, the overall experience remains highly enjoyable from beginning to end. Surmount succeeds in turning mountain climbing into a fun, creative, and surprisingly engaging adventure, offering plenty of charm, challenge, and replay value for players who enjoy exploration and physics-based platforming. Rating: 8/10
A Climbing game, that isn't total BS from a Controls/Gameplay Perspective.
WHAT A NOVEL IDEA!
Seriously though, in an market, where climbing games need to be needlesly difficult/complicated, because YES , it is nice to see a something, that isn't "A continuous kick in the wall-nuts (or a punch in the breasts, we aren't sexist here) in the form of climbing jank incarnate". Yes, the controls are weird, but once you get used to them, and find upgrades that can fling You farther, it is pretty satisfying to yeet yourself, and then hook onto an anchor, only to then do it again. The only major critisisms that I have are: > In the final two stages, it is increasingly difficult to see where You need to go, as the mountains themselves randomly generate at the start of each run > And the way to unlock stuff is IMO slower than needed, and with the only things that you really need to spend your coins on being cosmetics costing 100/Pop (which is not an small amount), and having like 300 things to unlock via RNG-gachapon (you at least don't get dupes, but still, :vomit:), it takes long to get everything Aside from that, It is worth a try IMO. It is like 15 USD (14€), so there are worse games to buy with that price tag..
Looks like a fun game and graphics looks nice but it's not fun.
