About
Surfing the Web With the Alien is a humorous adventure across one day in the life of a touring musician—written, drawn and programmed by a real touring musician. 🎸
In the year 19XX, a young guitarist finds an unexpected program on the family computer: an album made in the future by him. Once he clicks it, he is taken inside, right into the life of a musician on tour, and all it’s unexpected challenges. Instruments break. Laminates get lost. Dinner must be eaten. And at the end of it, you gotta play the best show you can! 🎸
Surfing the Web With the Alien includes 9 unique levels, each with their own play style, taking inspiration from gaming classics like Earthbound, Kung-Fu Master, Frogger, and Castlevania and remixing them all into a modern adventure across America’s touring circuit. 🎸
Can you make it from load-in to load-out and successfully play tonight’s show? If so, you’ll have a chance to perform your very own solo in front of the audience! 🎸
Find the hidden guitar picks in each level to extend your triumphant solo in front of tonight’s audience! 🎸
Surfing the Web With the Alien is the first game written, programmed and drawn by Mike Huguenor, guitarist with Jeff Rosenstock (as well as Shinobu, Hard Girls, and many others). The game draws from real-life experiences and situations to show players a taste of the true adventure of music. In the end, scan the QR code and submit your high score to the public leader to see who rocks the hardest. 🎸

It's a fun game with a lot of fun little references to games and music. For four dollars, you can't really complain!
An impressive first outing for a self-taught game dev! I enjoyed the variety of gameplay options presented across the various stages, especially in the latter part of the game. I came for the music but stayed for the entertaining dialogue and to make it on to the leaderboard. I needed those unlimited continues, though if I had to share a minor gripe, it would be that I wish I could have skipped the dialogue after continuing. Overall, I'm quite pleased to be able to support artists experimenting with ideas that some might call unconventional, but I'd call fun and weird (complimentary). I've really enjoyed engaging with Surfacing the Web With the Alien across its various forms. Oh, this does work on Steam Deck, but you might have to manually select a "Controller-based" input profile, otherwise your button inputs won't be registered.
