A short sad story (with 3 parts to choose, that show 3 different mid parts). For visual novel fans i give 74 % (because you enjoy 20 mins gaming for free) & 78 % for achievement hunters (could be more, 10 easy achievements, 1 need DLC). Thx 4 reading & hopefully enjoy this little story with all parts of it :)
An extremely short, free visual novel. Not a clear recommended, I'm kinda ambivalent about it.
The good:
+ the story + the dialogues + the backgrounds and the music are good quality + free + short, 8 achievements within half hour
The bad:
- paywalled last achievement - very limited number of window resolution options - there's no skip for dialogues you've already read - no dialogue history, as is customary in visual novels - no way to return to the main menu without either finishing the story or terminating the whole game with Alt+F4 - weird sexual innuendo jokes, they were quite jarringly out of mood
Verdict:
For free and less than half hour of your time it's worth a play. Each of the three paths take about 10 minutes to read through. The story is really nice (don't want to spoil it), and the dialogues are lifelike. The UI is very barebones compared to other visual novels. Also, locking the last achievement behind a paid DLC leaves a sour taste.

A short and yet pretty good visual novel! The art is great, and the story made me wanna cry. The only thing that I kinda disliked was the fact that in order to get the last achievement, you need to buy the DLC. The price of the DLC could be the price of the game itself, instead of making it free and then charging to get the last achievement. But well, that’s my honest opinion. I still liked the game tho. 7/10.
+Short and pretty cute story +Unexpected dialogue, and it wasn't that bad for the price +Pictures are ok too, not really flashy but they do the job - Not many pictures, it's closer to a book than a visual novel
Overall - 6.2/10
Right now is 2017 and visual novel has been around for about 35 years now. The first visual novel Hito de Nashi no Rakuin ~Fukei Kankin Inukan Choukyou~ was released on June-1983 in Japan. It was in a form of a eroge game. The second visual novel Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken was released just 4 month later. It's a Mystery murder game that don't have any H content at all. It's actually the second visual novel that gained a huge popularity among the japaness gamer fan and gave birth to visual novel that we know today. There are close to about 600 visual novel games on steam but very few of them are by none-japanese. This is one of the very few visual novel by none-japanese. Being free it's actually really good. Wonderful visual, Sound and story with twist. Even for a 15 minute read I did emotionally cry a little because of the story. There is also the wonderful snowing effect though the entire game that I enjoy! Achivements can be gotten though the only story choice in game and you have to play the game to it's end to unlock them. There is also one last achivement that require a 1 dollar DLC which I don't have. 9/10 for being a wonderful Visual novel by none-japanese.
Really enjoyed this visual novel. Everything about it was great. It's pretty short to go through all three routes. The chemistry between the two characters is amazing, both playful and sweet at times. That plot twist forced an audible gasp from me though. The scenery is beautiful, music is nice, there's a gallery for all the scenery. Heck, even the achievements look pretty. I'd rate this a 10/10 if we didn't have to buy the dlc just for that one achievement. Pros - short - characters + story - beautiful scenery + gallery - simple, fitting music Cons - that one dlc needed achievement So 9/10 for a short, free vn.

Very short but loaded with impact, Sunset's Ashes is one of the few Free To Play VNs on here that is worth playing. The story follows a couple reminiscing about their lives while one finally joins the other on a climb up a mountain. Super nice artwork makes up for one weirdly-placed joke. Achievement hunters, all work but note you must buy the Special Edition DLC to unlock the final achievement. Yeah, they paywalled one of them lol. Time to completion's around 40 minutes if you're a slow reader, under 20 if you're a quick one. Sunset's Ashes is an easy way to find out if visual novels are your thing without needing to spend any cash. Solid recommend.
