As cute as Sugar Shack could be, and as interested as I was in the world tile placement, I rage quit and returned this game within 45 minutes because you can only carry one thing at a time. The premise is that you signed a contract with the Devil and now have to rehabilitate a broken-down maple syrup tavern in Canada or purgatory or something. There are loads of interesting world customization options plus a restaurant to run, and everything about this would be perfect for me if you had a backpack. Heck, I'd even settle for Fruit Bus's stupid two-items-at-a-time mechanic. Instead, you get a basket that carries multiple items (but only a set number of item types)... but picking up and moving that basket counts as your one item. So you're just running from bush to bush, carrying one berry at a time to your frozen basket in the middle of the hexagon, and then nipping back to the shack to unload your produce. It is the single dumbest inventory system I have ever seen. Seriously, what cocker spaniel approved this? Anyway, I guess I'd recommend this if you don't mind carrying one item at a time and are particularly interested in town building and annoying the Devil. But I don't actually recommend this one; it's been a few months and I'm still mad enough to write this review, and while I remember some cool or otherwise promising things in the first 45 minutes, my main takeaway was that the inventory was designed by the same Devil who manages your contract. I do love this game, but you run out of content that leaves you wishing there was more to the game. The biggest issue for me is I wish that there wasn't a limited amount of world tiles, the game abruptly ends because you cant expand your world anymore. This limits how many resources you can get from things like Cows thus making milk recipes useless as i only get a couple milk every single day. The devs need to allow much larger expanding of the world, and buying of specific tiles such as more cow tiles or more chicken tiles from say 'a Farmer vendor'. Having bigger expansions on the main house would be nice too. As well as adding more recipes. Truly and honestly i think the devs have a good baseline, they just need to pump some more content into the game to get it to a point that allows you to be able to continue playing.
Abandonware. Time wasting. Don't buy.
This is definitely a cosy little resource management game. Visually it's very cute and the game mechanics aren't bad. However be prepared for a whole heap of glitches Ranging from the mildly annoying (not being able to pick up/put down items) to the infuriating (not being able to complete quests). Hopefully the developers will address these issues quickly as they can make game play almost impossible in some cases. I could see this being expanded on with DLC and becoming quite a large game if wanted, but the kinks need to be ironed out first.
Plodding in the worst way possible. Inventory does not exist; you can only hold one item at a time and have to rely on a carryable basket to get anything done efficiently. Speaking of efficient, nothing in this game is efficient. Crafting anything requires a metric ton of items that take forever to chop or mine, cooking is incredibly slow, there are far too many steps for basic tasks at the start of the game, and to top it off, the in-game clock is already strict on what can be done at what time. Restaurant management ends at 6 no matter what. In between cooking a meal? Tough; you just wasted ingredients that are already hard enough to come by. Finally, finally got to a point where you can upgrade your equipment...for a measly 5 copper bars and $1000. Quit the game right there. The only saving grace is the ability to rearrange the map to your liking, which you can only do the night before. Do not recommend for even the thirstiest of farming sim enthusiasts.
I am a French Canadian and I really like the vibe of this game, but I can't recommend it since I encountered a bug that make the game unplayable for me after 16 Days (in-game). This game is out of early access, there should not be game breaking bugs anymore! I got a bug that my harbour stalls are stuck in the lighthouse and I can't use them anymore. I tried to restart my game, change the harbour tile placement, repair my game files Nothing work! The review will stay negative as long as the game is not fixed.
This game appears to be fun and cozy but isn't any of that at all. Purely frustrating with too much too do and too little time and janky ass controls :/
If you're looking for a hidden gem, you've just found yourself a diamond. Sugar shack is filled to the brim with surprises and other marvels that you wouldn't expect from a little indie game. There's crafting, restaurant management, decorating and cooking with the delights of gathering and constructing your own ingredients. You'll even find yourself gawking at the silly physics as you gather or maybe even enthralled by the snow creating desire paths for you during your daily routines. You have full control over how the world looks and feels with the unique hexagonal world tile placement. If you are on the fence about this one, I suggest giving this one a go as this game feels like a refreshing take on a popular genre. I never write reviews, but this one feels special and like one of those games that's extremely good but becomes shadowed by a bigger release at the time it was published. Happy cooking, everyone c:
game has great graphics cute and adorable but no good tutorial. dont know what to do or actually very complicated alot of things to do very detailed which is causing me a headache!...sorry not for me
