Suffer the night is not a bad game, but it is definitely "First project by a small team" type game. Which isn't a bad thing, and is honestly pretty alright considering that. Main complaints: Opening drawers/doors is annoying to do, and while it would add to horror (tension of doing it correctly), it never shows back up outside of the start of the game. To get the "Good ending" you need to collect tarot cards, but the "Funhouse" section is unexplorable after completion. MOST of the game takes place in that area, or at least felt like it did. There is a stealth area with invisible enemies, and the game hints at it being a "Stealth" thing to do to avoid detection. Except you also have to walk in water, which alerts enemies because of the sound. So instead you just spam the flash. I had health upgrades at this point, so unsure if it is possible without them, but you can just out-spam the enemy with the flash. In the same area as above, there is a bugged staircase that is not an instant climb up, and takes repeated attempts of running at it to let you climb. There are quite a few reports in the discussion area about this (I would change my review to positive if this gets fixed tbh) The starting area does tension pretty well! And I was kinda hoping for a FNAF style defense type game at the start before changing to what the images are promoting. This does not happen, and I realized pretty quickly that you just can't die there. Everything else is either average to great. I really enjoyed the paintings in Stacey's house being used as enemy designs, needing to click specific things with your mouse to use was great and I wish the game extorted the tension from having to be precise, and Mr.Tops presence at the start was great. TLDR: Game isn't overly worth buying as it's 4 hours, but playing the first 1 1/2 hours is a fun time way before any issues show. So it might be worth buying for that. Game is totally worth a random friday night playthrough in a discord call if you can get it on sale.
Suffer The Night is a pretty good horror action game and it's made by Tainted Pact the same people that made Weeping Falls Massacre and Terror at oakheart, but what is the story. On a stormy night famous cover artist Stacey Linden is at home alone, after having woken up and a storm raging outside she decided to just unwind and have a relaxing night at home. Sadly a relaxing night at home is not happening for Stacey as she will be the target of a demon known as Mr Top, soon she'll be dragged into his twisted games with her life and freedom put on the line, but can she do it, can she defeat Mr Top and escape or will it be game over for her. Now the likes, the story is pretty good it has some nice twists and turns and like the makers previous games it's a love letter to classic 80’s horror cinema and culture and if you know the 80s you'll definitely recognize a few things. The gameplay is very good at first after waking up you do simple tasks, after you get the floppy disk you play a sort of text adventure like a horror version of Oregon Trail, but soon you get transitioned into an action horror game where you have to shoot monsters and solve light puzzles, I thought the transition was quite well done and the buildup was well paced. There’s also a mini game you can play in Stacy's home, in her basement there's an arcade cabinet where you can play this side scroller, it was okay although the jumping mechanic is a bit floaty and can be hard to control sometimes. Another interesting thing about the gameplay is this camera we get, using it will allow you to find hidden objects and passageways that can help you traverse the game although there's a little problem with it but I'll get to that in the dislikes. The puzzles were good like the previous game Weeping Falls Massacre it's easy to figure out with plenty of hints on how to solve it. The graphics are good even better than their first game Weeping Falls Massacre; you definitely see a lot of improvement from their first game to this game with a nice use of colors, designs and scenery. The levels are good the house is memorable and definitely has a nice retro 80s look to it, the other parts of the game’s levels like the dungeon and that circus level is memorable and each area has a unique aesthetic and the explanation to why these areas exist is explain very well. The enemies and bosses are good, I was surprised this game had bosses and they had interesting looks, I particularly like the bad guy Mr Top not only does he have a great voice, I liked his design, he's creepy yet sort of charming in a way with his dress and top hat, kind of gives off a Jack the Ripper kind of vibe. The floppy disks/audio logs are good, now you're probably wondering why I'm talking about, well in the game there's these floppy disks that act as audio logs and like I said I liked them as they explained the story and the game’s mechanics. The music is very good it's pretty kickass, especially the rock song in the ending credits it's a nice song to rock too. The voice acting is pretty good I think my favorite voice actor is RR Green who voice’s Mr top and the developer, he has this creepy yet charming voice and I swear in some parts he almost sounds exactly like Joker in the Batman 2004 cartoon played by Kevin Michael Richardson. Honestly I hope this guy gets more voice acting gigs in the future. The atmosphere is good; in the first level it definitely feels nice and creepy and can definitely make you jump before it transitions into more of an action horror game. Now is this game scary, well yes and no the first half of the game where you're just in Stacey's home definitely can be creepy and put you on edge. But when we get to Mr Top’s world it transitions from horror to more of an action horror game which is not bad and I think they did it well. Now the dislikes, there are some bugs in the game like on one part when I was picking up this pot my game froze and another weird bug is with the bad ending achievement, you see I want to get the bad ending first and the good ending last. I definitely got the bad ending first and then the good ending, but after I got the good ending I found out the bad ending wasn't counted even though I could see it in the completed area of my achievements, yet as I said it wasn't counted. That was really weird, I was able to get that achievement though, still very odd that it happened. Also as I said in the gameplay we get a camera that allows us to find invisible/hidden objects and pathways, the problem with it I feel like it wasn't taken far enough. Like I really wish there was a segment where you could only traverse an area with the camera, like if there's an invisible Bridge or something that can only be made visible with the camera, or there's a boss that's invisible and the only way to hurt them is to use the camera along with your gun. We do get invisible enemies and the ability to stun them, but that's like in the last part of the game, I don't know I feel like more could have been done with this kind of game mechanic but that’s personally what I think. Now with that done Suffer The Night is a pretty good horror action game and it's made by Tainted Pact the same people that made Weeping Falls Massacre and Terror at oakheart, it has a pretty good story, very good gameplay and good enemies and bosses. Now this is the part where I recommend this game and I absolutely do recommend it, this is a good game to play especially if you're going to play Terror at oakheart since there's a reference to this game.
Pretty decent horror game. It has plenty of highlights that will stay with you for a while, and bonus points for the villain's voice-acting.
It started off doing things I had seen before but man did it surprise me. Some gripes: -the funhouse went on too long and the rooms with identical puzzles really sucked. -If you miss the first tarot card you get locked out of a developer disk. -I had an almost soft lock in the water stealth area because you cant walk up stairs, you have to crawl. -I think there were too many developer disks that explained way too much. I'd like a little left to mystery, not explained completely by halfway through the game. Otherwise I loved it. Definitely gonna check out his other games.
LOVED this game! This dev is quickly becoming a fav of mine & I think deserves more love Horror was good, monsters are wierd and all around fun time- I played it about a year ago but, I'm editing my playthrough video finally and it made me realize I needed to leave a proper review!
oynanış mantığını çözdükten sonra çok kolay. başta ne bu böyle demiştim ama oyun beniğ fena içine çekti çok beğendim. hele bu fiyata kesinlikle alınır son kuruşuna kadar hak ediyor.
I love this game so much. It's one thing watching someone play, but playing it yourself is amazing. Mr. Tops is my favorite character. I know he's a villain, but he has this bold, creepy energy that i love. I love Stacy too- She's got a lot of fire, fearlessness, and she's determined to get back home and end Mr. Tops game. Some of the things Stacy said had me thinking, " Maybe don't say that to someone who has you in their domain.", but it made her feel real. RJ Green, if you ever read this: You did an amazing job. Your father would've been so proud of you. Keep up the good work. I look forward to your next game.( To everyone who worked with RJ Green- Y'all did an amazing job.)
its a fine game made with real passion and talent but its really lacking at the same time i would split the game into two parts, prologue and main game but honestly this game has an insane tone shift between the two sections making it not scary at all the prologue is basically a home alone walking sequence i was expecting maybe a fnaf or clocktower sorta thing where u need to do tasks with an enemy lingering behind u but saddly that never occurs the game proper is litterally just a light combat horror themed game which was fun but it felt dragged out at times and was sorta boring but it had cool ideas
Das Gameplay im Haus war wirklich gut. Danach ging es nur noch steil bergab. Hätten die das Gameplay im Haus ausgebaut wäre es wohl ein gutes Spiel gewesen, so aber nicht.
! THE ATARI STYLE GAME IS LITERALLY 2% OF THE WHOLE GAME, DON'T WORRY ! If you are worried about what type of game this is: Suffer the Night is a 3D Gothic Walking Sim, Then it turns into a super casual First Person Shooter half way through I had 0% Idea what this game was based off of reviews and trailers, which is so weird for a game not to brandish what it actually is. 7/10 Pretty Good Try it out
