About

Dive. Pilot. Explore.
subROV: Underwater Discoveries is an underwater exploration game where you operate a full-ocean-depth ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle).
Embark on dives all over the world, map unknown regions, explore shipwrecks, study aquatic species, and sample hydrothermal vents with an array of scientific tools.

Take complete control of every dive as you navigate an oceanic Research Vessel to different dive sites. Deploy your ROV and use its tools and sensors to study the depths of the ocean and the creatures dwelling within it.
Go from trainee to fully-fledged pilot as you explore the mysteries of the ocean.

Choose from various dive sites as you complete objectives such as charting the seafloor or carrying out scientific studies.
Navigate an oceanic research vessel to the exact location of your dive.
Download scientific data and information on new points of interest from ocean buoys.
Deploy your full ocean-depth rated ROV and complete scientific goals using the AI-assisted scanner, articulated arm, sensors, lander, and sediment corers.
Explore trenches, survey wrecks, and study some of the ocean's most fascinating and unusual creatures.
Keep track of your discoveries in the Gallery.
Complete objectives to progress from trainee to Dive Master.
subROV: Underwater Discoveries is being developed in collaboration with the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences and the Schmidt Ocean Institute, with funding from the European Union and partial funding from a National Science Foundation BIO-OCE grant.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR STEAM DECK OWNERS
subROV has been certified for the Steam Deck, so it is fully playable and complies with several requirements set by Steam for the device. The frame rate while exploring the seafloor often dips and stays in the 20s, though, and cloud saves have not been implemented yet.
If you are thinking of buying subROV for the Deck exclusively, and generally can't stand low fps, we advise that you wishlist it for the time being.

This game is not action packed. It can actually be quiet boring, possibly like piloting a real rov in real life. But it also has this special feeling of diving deep into the unknown and you can find interesting stuff there. The animals are much better animated than what you would expect. Some other props is only okayish. So I recommend it, if you want to get a almost realistic feel on what piloting a sub rov is like. I don't recommend this, if you expect a story, action packed gameplay and no boring parts (ascending and descending the rov all the time for example is really boring. sometimes you see a whale or tortoise, but thats it).
After visiting a ROV training facility in Aberdeen's Subsea Excellence zone, I was intrigued to discover this little gem. The ability to simulate real life offshore ROV operations for science goals is well put together and the developer interacts regularly and takes on board feedback from actual ROV techs and pilots. Its so good that I'd imagine STEM educators would love to use it in classrooms to get kids of all ages interested.
I enjoy the realism of piloting the ROV. This game is a breathtaking underwater experience, and the sea creatures are so wonderful!
As of 3/1/2023: I like this game. As it is still in early access, I cannot speak in concrete terms, as you may be seeing this upon full release. The controls and ROV operations are good. It's a god foundation. THe only thing that's leaving me wanting is a much more vivid marine life environment full of life. So much of what there is to scan and discover is repetitive benthic species; with the exception of charismatic megafauna encountered while lowering the ROV through the water column. Even with the abundant inverts on the sea floor, the benthic environment is barren and nothing feels real and alive. I hope, however, that when the game reaches gold, that that will change. The ocean is full of unique, ediverse, and bustling life, This game only scratches the surface of its potential. For what it is as of this writing, it is worth supporting. And I look forward to seeing greater developments that enhance the experience.
Fantastic exploration game. I've waited for something like this for a long time and so far they have delivered an excellent sim! I can't wait to get some more exploring in, but I had to leave a review because these devs deserve it. Thanks devs!
A chill fun way to kill some time. Overall the game provides a believable simulation of driving a deep sea ROV (never don't it so that's why I say believable versus accurate), and performing various task. The majority of your time is going to be just flying serenely over the ocean floor scanning the flora and fauna. The occasional work task is a nice change of pace, as is the big wrecks and other items of interest. The first time I saw one, not gonna lie got some goosebumps, very atmospheric! A couple suggestions, add in a throttle feature (ie 0-100% forward movement), this would be helpful if you're moving a good way across the ocean floor. Have an indicator showing where the camera is pointed (ie how panned L/R it is and how up/down it is), or have a "recenter-camera" key. I'd love a little more external camera mobility, but I can see why that could be problematic (but it would be a nice addition if you can swing it!). Have an option to replace the default camera, with one mounted on the cage, I think that would be more of a "simulation" external view than the current magical floating camera when in the water.
best game ever 10/10 game of the year
