Subliminal is a psychological horror game inspired by the urban legend of The Backrooms. Bleeding edge lighting and rendering, handcrafted open-ended levels, light and perspective-based puzzles, nostalgic spaces, unfamiliar faces, and a rotting feeling that something is not quite right.

About

Light shapes the world around you. Bending shadows, opening doors... the world is yours to discover.
Light isn't just how you see, it's how you survive. In Subliminal, illumination is a physical material that is yours to grasp, carry, and bend to your will to alter the space you find yourself occupying. You'll grab fixtures from ceilings, cast light to open doors, and reveal pathways that seem impossible to reach.
You are not given answers in Subliminal; you are given choices. Puzzles revolve around manipulating perspective and lighting. Change an area's lighting, and the entire space might change. Place a light too far, and you may have to start from the beginning. Everything you move and every shadow you create changes what is, and isn't, real.

The more you remember, the more it remembers you.
Somewhere beneath the surface of your memories, something is waiting. At first, you'll sense it behind walls and around corners, or hear the faint sounds of breathing when you stand still. Later, you'll see it, a figure that shouldn't exist, chasing you through decaying hallways and down endless slides. That thing... it's not human.
Encounters in Subliminal are psychologically terrifying events born within your own consciousness. Things sense your movements and hesitation. Fumble with a puzzle too slowly when it matters most, and you may feel the weight of the world closing in on you.

Do you remember?
Every space you enter in Subliminal is a fragment of a memory. Discover the secrets of basements, water parks, play places, and more, all rendered in meticulous detail in Unreal Engine 5's Lumen lighting and Nanite geometry. Nothing is quite right. Slides lead to places they shouldn't, TV screens transport you between memories, and doors loop back to the same room you started from.
Each location tells a part of your story. As you explore, the environment becomes puzzling and less stable. You may see things that do not exist, hear sounds that are not really there, and feel things that make the hairs of your neck stand up. What begins as an exploration soon turns into a violent confrontation with your own fading sense of self.

Genuinely think that people are really overcriticizing this game on YouTube if you like games with multiple roots and can handle puzzles that don't hold your hands as much as most other games might then this game is honestly a must play. I'm not saying the game in anyway is perfect by no means perfection is not an achievable goal and in no way should be an expectation by consumers but my personal experience with this game was quite enjoyable and one of the few games where I actually took the time to play through all endings and I can't wait for the later installations in this game because I absolutely adore it and it upsets me that people can't enjoy a game for what it is and instead find as many problems as they can find as to right off the game as "bad" and I feel as though those people should realize that there is more to something than it's issues or problems, every individual has problems and has most likely done things they aren't proud of so when those same individuals nit pick something a group of real people put obvious effort into making for the love of creating things those people don't realize that just as they as a person that is not flawless, game developers are in no way flawless either and there is nothing wrong with giving constructive criticism but it won't help the devs fix the game or improve with later games if all you do is call there game "bad" or "another mascot slop horror ripoff lmao" <--(this was a YouTube comment which gives no way for a dev to improve in any way). I'm sorry if this review was a bit much but I do recommend playing and if you do I hope you have an enjoyable experience. At the end of the day gaming is supposed to be fun. :]
I wanted a puzzle game got nightmare sim 2026. Good game a few bugs but I am happy with my purchase.
One of the best "psychological" horror games western developers have actually made in recent years (And no sh2 remake doesn't count cuz it was a remake at it's core) I eagerly await for the release of chapter 2. Amazing work and please, keep up the good work and pulishing the corrent and the next chapter until the diamond gets the shining it really deserves. With love❤️
Quite possibly one of the biggest letdowns in horror game history right here. Couldn't recommend not playing this game at all any more than I already have. DO NOT. Waste of time and money. If the devs want to improve the game, it honestly might take going all the way back to the drawing board.
Totally nails that weird, unsettling liminal space atmosphere and constantly messes with your perception. It’s a brilliantly trippy experience that genuinely re-wires how you look at your surroundings.
Since I really enjoyed the "predecessor" Superliminal, so I was really looking forward to this game. I enjoy the concept of this game, which is slightly different from the previous one, and the vastly improved graphics and general atmoshphere are excellent. However, there is one aspect of the gameplay that makes it very difficult for me to give a fully positive review and recommendation: *MILD SPOILERS AHEAD* While this is game is mostly a "puzzle" type game (which I enjoy), there are certain "athletic tasks" that you need to complete to advance. And those are in my opinion often too hard and quite frankly very frustrating. Furthermore, having unsuccessfully tried and repeatedly failed at such an "athletic" task, and having quit the game out of frustration, there isn't even a convenient save spot right before such a task. No, when you load the game again to give it another go, you have to spend considerable amount of time re-playing the bits before the "athletic" part. This reduces the motivation to go and try again considerably, which is a real shame.
