wanted to like this game but the optimization is extremely bad and its just a red flag to me when even the players have been wanting fixes for the games performance since last year and still havent gotten it wish i could play it
It doesn't run well and the combat is extremely slow and boring (swing > block > swing > block > out of stamina so you can't swing or block) Hopefully adjustments can be made before 1.0
NO BS GAME REVIEW: Stygian: Outer Gods There are no problems with optimization at 4K/60FPS, 2K OR 1080p on ryzenset AMD 9060XT16GB+ AMDCPU5700X+ 32GB PATRIOT V.E 2 -4000MHZ+ B550MPRO + M2 SSD 7000MB/S setup so luckily no "We aware that the optimization can still be rough around the edges, especially on some older hardware " applies to my experience and this review -adequately and accordingly- accurate crushing all the up to date AAA game titles on ULTRA /High in game settings by design and as designated. Anyway ,-the Lovecraft/horror atmosphere is there and definitely there and I love it (thank you for that devs ) .. The game itself can be recognized as raw and beautiful in its core simplicity— I’ll give it that...but that’s about it. But unfortunately, don’t bother.. Why? The combat is laughable and some other mechanics of the game are literally fighting against the user instead of a challenging the user -meaning - its flat, especially the hand-to-hand combat, which is a tedious chore. Example ,..You are too slow to perform a side-step or any type of dodge, so the only option is to block. However, there are enemies with attack patterns much faster than your "block-attack-block" rhythm. This means you either block constantly or open yourself up for attacks; if you do the latter, you’ll be killed in 2–3 swipes. The frustration with Stygian: Outer Gods is also that the devs clearly spent all their talent on the art and 4K optimization ,and I like that ,unfortunately leaving the actual "game" part—the movement, the hitboxes, and the fun—as an afterthought. When you're stuck in a clunky block-loop and can't even dodge a basic attack, the "atmosphere" just becomes a pretty cage you're trapped in. This falls under design framework and not the "work in progress -early access limitation . This leads to a larger problem: some pointless puzzled issues , and other issues and limitations make this "great" game unplayable in Q2 2026,- where : -There is no time to enjoy the scenery, topography, textures, or mechanics because you're wasting your time on unnecessary chores and masquerades instead of having pure, stupid, unsolicited fun. For example: you take the blunt knife or pistol, but ammo and resources are so scarce that every shot has to count. I get it--it’s "survival"--but I have enough surviving to do in the real world on a daily basis. So I don’t need that in a 3D game. lol..not at this level, sorry ... I’m not in a real hunting survival reality or a war zone; I’m here to relax and have fun for a moment of my short human life O want to belive I speak for the most in terms of trying having some fun in 3D on this slop gruel planet called earth . ,whatever... Regardless....I should NOT have to rip my guts out or sweat my eyes out just to play a half decent game released OVER 12 MONTHS AGO . While it’s reasonable that you shouldn’t be able to fire 100 rounds into one enemy, having to rely on perfect headshots every single time is just nonsense. At this stage, I regret buying it regardless of the heavy lifting and potential devs had put into the project. So far, this feels like a "chess and checkers" game watching a golf-session having a snore on a electric meth snort . It’s enough to get an average gamer to the point of no return when it comes to supporting Early Access developers now left a taste in my mouth after expecting decent gourmet steak in the heavily marketing infused screenshots but plays like a cardboard burger followed by that cold feeling when you put your hard-earned "meal money" into a game that looks like a into a "tedious eating a soup with a fork chore" where half perfection is the only path to progress experience while having some undiluted fun. This review is a work in progress upon Stygian: Outer Gods studio work in progress and it will be updated accordingly to Early Access project improvement, if any ,adequately and accordingly. I will be looking forward into that allowing to change my experience and award this promising project with Very Positive recommended upon future improvement.
This game is one of the creepiest games I've ever played. Although, and considering it's still in EA, there's the question of optimization, which it seems to have none. The game, although pretty, runs extremely poorly on LOW settings, and even if my laptop is not the best, 10 fps is not acceptable, since it can and will run Elden Ring and Cyberpunk on HIGH settings. For the moment I cannot really recommend it, since, for what I noticed, the devs keep adding new areas to the game, new game-play tweaks and so on, without ever properly addressing the elephant in the room. Once it feels a bit more stable, it will go from a 4 out of 10 to a 10 out of 10 that quick, since it's still one of the best if not the best cosmic horror game on Steam. There is also the matter of combat and oh, boy, is it bad, since most things can kill you with two swings and the character controls fail to register 50 per cent of the time, it becomes a test of nerves and repeating the same thing over and over because you can only save in specific spots. Failed to register that last hit? Go back thirty minutes since your last save and do everything again. See those 6h of game play I have? Half of those was trying to move from a spot full of witches.
I am a huge fan of everything related to Lovecraft and I must say I really enjoyed this game. We have a typical madness story with monsters and mysteries, but also a really cool level design where exploration feels awesome. I won't put a score on this game yet because it is not finished, but when it comes to things I'd love to point out - it would be great to have the ability to craft items anywhere, infinite stamina out of combat, and some inventory extensions (maybe additional backpacks as loot or something like that). But all of that is very subjective. One more thing that would be a good improvement is to make the mansion map more readable, because after the village - where you could easily understand where you are - the mansion felt like a bit of a maze. The game also has some performance issues, but nowadays it is pretty rare not to have any. xD My biggest concern is that I need more. :)
Шикарно. Мистика и вся эта атмосфера ,хочу ещё)
Not my final verdict since it is still in EA, but for now, here we go. Performance is terrible! And how can it be worse inside the mansion than outside? Inside of the mansion is almost unplayable for me. A flip book gives me more fps. Atmosphere, level design, story, all okay. Combat feels a little weird, but that is probably due to the horrible perfomance. Can't say if it is supposed to be like that - just slow, melee hits that don't connect, stuff like that. Imo a lot of "small" things need changes like why is there no indication if a key item can still be used or not. It does not have to disappear from inventory automatically, but knowing if I can still use it or not, would not hurt. Which brings me directly to my next point, player inventory could be either bigger by default or become extendable - backpack or something like that. It would be great if some items (especially ammo) could be crafted without a workbench. There are more of such minor things but I will stay fair and stop here since it is still in EA. If you want to, take your chance with the performance (according to other reviews, not everybody seems to have those performance problems) and go for it. Really not a bad game, the terrible perfomance just completely ruins it for me. I really hope it improves with future updates. Not recommended because of the terrible perfomance!
Humilde pero muy bueno... Tiene una atmosfera muy conseguida... Todo muy misterioso...
