The game itself isn't bad, but doesn't seem finished. At all. It has now crashed 4 or 5 times in the last hour. Based upon these issues, I would say pick it up if you can do so during a deeply discounted sale. The regular price is far, far too high for the game as it is.
An x-com style turn based game wihtout the reasearch or base operations. You get to pick from a pool of charcters who have different weapons and abilities. Can't go wrong for the price
I won a key for this game in a giveaway Pros: -Looks decent and it isn't too ugly -The levels are clear and the mission goal is simple.' - Most lines are clear and can be heard - Characters have unique looks - The menus were clear and easy to use - Looks like some effort was put into making it. Cons: -It wasn't very clear when a character died, it didn't really let you know other than not being able to use them anymore. They also came back to life the next mission so it only really matters if one lives at the end of each one. -The insect like enemy seemed to have too much health, even in early missions. It just took quite a lot of moves to deal with one, let alone the 2 or 3 that show up later on. -The character models don't match the image icon for some, this meant it was harder to keep track of which ws which. No big deal though and I soon got past this -After 45 minutes of playing the game crashed suddenly, I don't know what went wrong but a message saying it had an error and then the game stopped. -The cover system was rather poor. A good effort, can't say whether it's worth the price or not seeing as I got it for free. If you buy this, expect a simple style of game which is easy to get used to. Don't expect Xcom type quality, it is a turn based game but this is a low budget version. I personally think it was rather fun, was enjoying playing until the crash happened. 6/10.
Strike Team Hydra is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. This mobile app is a turn based tactical game and, at first glance, you have to admit it kind of looks alright... but as always you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover (although, I strongly advise if the cover is made out of a McDonalds burger wrapper and just sort of stapled on, you probably won't like the book either). A tortured analogy from me, and I apologise to analogies everywhere. Regardless, while this kinda looks okay, it's not. Most of of the defects are from the mobile app heritage... specifically the game levels are small and repetitive. Mobile phones can't handle large game levels... they're just handheld limited computers and not ideal for gaming. But when mobile devs dump their mobile apps onto Steam as a cash grab, it means PC gamers have to sift through these inferior products. There's a lot of games on Steam, and comparing any mobile app to a genuine PC game is going to be a bad match for the app store guys. From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. The mobile app assets are far from bleeding edge, with lowish polygon counts and somewhat low resolution textures, making this look like it's at least 10 years old. It's unclear why the developers weren't able to arrange high quality, high polygon count contemporary assets for the game, and also irrelevant... what matters is that this looks poor in comparison to more professionally produced games as a result of their decisions. The controls and game handling are notably very clunky and unsmooth here, and in this case it's because the game was made to be played with a mobile app screen touch interface (you even get told to tap your screen in the tutorial... this is unacceptable). It's janky and unsatisfying to play... and any experienced gamer will tell you, the handling, responsiveness and general gameplay feel of the control scheme must be well polished for this kind of game to succeed. Unfortunately, this is something the developer seems to have phoned in, with little to no apparent gameplay testing. They dropped the ball on this one. Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone. These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. The poor quality of this mobile app is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 6 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality mobile app is to be expected. So, should you buy this mobile app? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam? Strike Team Hydra has the almost unethical price of around $7 USD, it's not worth it given the defects and shortcomings with the product, especially considering the sheer number of completely free, much higher quality games on Steam. For comparison, the $7 asking price for this game could get you games like "Batman: Arkham Origins", "Civilization VI" or "X-Com 2". Yeah, you can get X-Com 2 for less than this mobile app! What a joke! Just play X-Com. You'll be glad you did.
70/100 Quite fun.. but challenging. Playthrough: 30-40 hours fun (Campaign + Special Missions) Also, the Replay-value is quite high ^^ Want to feel like a Space Soldier ordered to fight Aliens? Yay, then this is YOUR game ;D Similar to Demon´s Rise 1+2 the Developers used the underlying Engine and most Systems to create a SciFi environment, instead of the medieval theme before. I have to admit, now the game is more polished than in 2018 and aside some general flaws regarding general Comfort and Mission Briefing - this game is quite fun ^^ Gameplay: """""""""""""" - turn-based Action (inside a Spaceship) - Kill and fight off alien Invaders from your fleets Battleship - 12 different classes with unique skillsets - Play Story-missions to progress - Grind(!) through Story/Extra-missions to gear up - Regularly consult your Spaceship´s Vendor to buy/change GEAR - the FUN starts once you´re above 100 ActionPoints and can use the best Skills - the game is quite tactical - COVER,BUFFS,DEBUFFS make a big difference - Finally, their game has a Tutorial to TRAIN the fighting (unless you played the other games) - Challenging(!) ..it takes some hours to get top gear, so be prepared^^ - Mission objectives vary from easy to quite hard.. (eg: M 5 - prevent Teleporter destruction) - Difficulty setting: "EASY" is ok.. any higher and you might get serious trouble.. no joke ;) - Another new feature is Reinforcements ..watch out - MORALE is very important now (keep track or your fighting might go downhill in 2 turns^^) - Gear for Gloves and Cloak -slots cannot(!) be bought in Shop !! You need to grind it ;( - the Cloak- slot (left Shoulder side) is now "Ammo" ..very nice bonuses (eg: +30%crit) WARNING: This game is a bit different in some ways compared to Demon´s Rise 1+2 It is advised to really check the Skill- and Combat descriptions. Quickguide: """"""""""""""" -Select your 6 mercs and jump into the fray -decide your playstyle: agressive or defensive -play first 5 missions.. then grind for gear.. -higher difficulty = more money + better rewards -ideally grind in "extreme"-mode -once your mercs hit level 5-7 they can use all skills (if geared properly) -Personally, I suggest a tactical "breach & clear" -team (mobility/utility/dps) My favourite Strike-Team aka "Breach & Clear" : """""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""""" No medic needed.. "extreme" proven.. highly mobile.. much fun to play^^ only medium armor, but good evasion and ofc.. very high dmg Mercs are basically tailored around your NovaMarine and Cyborg. 1. Nova Marine (a real combat monster, skills complement the "Rushing" playstyle) 2. Cyborg (mobile support, gets really strong after geared properly) 3. SPIDR robot (mobile support, very strong once geared) 4. Command (utility+support , big array of gimmicks for any situation) 5. Infiltrator (ranged support, the swiss-knife of debuffing) 6. Vanguard (strong fire support - later huge AoE fireworks) A slight warning.. you need to grind a bit to get your main merc geared. But don´t worry this setup can do first levels in "extreme" without gear ;) Generally, this team needs level 8+ to fully utilize all skills (esp. Vanguard) Also needs a ton of AP for those high-end skills >>> Gear-priority: AP > most other things (esp. first 5 levels) --->>> Regarding the price - FAIR. Rarely I say that, but can´t go wrong with this one!! If you like turn-based tactics like the classics (from Xcom to JA2) this is a MUST-have anyway.. and quite similar If you loved the former Demon´s Rise games - this is just more fast-paced ;D (If you´re interested check the steamkeys ~ $3-5 )
Crashes way too often gameplay isnt bad though when it works, based on this though i would not recommend 1/10.
WOW!! Strike Force Hydra is an extremely awsome game. If you enjoyed Demon's Rise: Lords of Choas and Demon's Rise: War For The deep You'll probably enjoy Strike Force Hydra. Unlike the first two games Hydra is more of a Sci-Fi turrn based strategy RPG. I found the game extremely fun. I hope that Wave Light Games makes more games like these three. The only thing I don't like about this game like War for the deep is it is 'buggy' the game crashes a lot. This game provides hours of fun and only costing $9 CDN makes it a very good deal. Definetly worth the price!
I like it, I like all of the games from this developer, he found his niche and it works for him. Pretty much it's simple but stream lined; you and your team are dropped into missions with minimal plot, kill everything or make sure an npc survives (while you kill everything). It is just tactical combat with a cover system, no over watch though. Like a completely stripped down X-Com which is exactly what I wanted. As you complete missions you get experience and party members level up, points are automatically distributed, you also get money and equipment as rewards and can purchase more equipment from the store to improve your team. If you just want a simple but relaxing, challenging at times, combat only game than this nails it.
Don't judge from my play time, it was alt-tab most of the time, but for the few hours that I actually played it, it's a pretty decent game. Customization and skills are cool and well balanced, there is a lot of different tactics and approaches you can take with your character progression and when cracking a mission. Missions/room are fairly short and tight, so they require a decent amount of planning and quick tactics. Every attempt seems to play out slightly differently and you have to alter your tactics on the go all the time. It allows you to restart mission/room at any time which is great. Graphics are awesome for the price, especially if you boost it out in the Nvidia settings for that title, animations could be slightly better but they’re not awful. It suffers from some small bugs here and there, but nothing game breaking. I definitely gonna keep this one on my HDD (it’s only 2GB) to play a few missions every now and then. For the price and for what it is, it's definitely refreshing and worth every penny. It's a really amazing little gem worth your attention if you’re into tactical turn based squad management games. Reminds me a lot of good old U.F.O.
