Pretty fun movement based game. Since it's still in early access it's hard to tell what the full release will look like but so far it seems promising. Sadly, taking a quick gander at the news page, the updates have become quite sparse thus I'm not very optimistic about any major changes. Besides a few bugs and glicthes, I have a big complaint about how the game stores high scores. Instead of putting them up on the leaderboard, each time you save your ghost the game creates a workshop item which is something I can't wrap my head around, who tf came up with such a dumb idea. I don't want to have hundereds of invislbe workshop items just because I decided to save my record for everybody to see. And the only way to delete them is via inspect element in your browser and finding the ID for each one. I guess buy at your own risk, I haven't finished the game yet but looking at the levels, I don't have many left to beat so I guess the whole thing takes about 3 hours.
Game stores high scores to your steam workshop which permanently increments a counter on your steam profile by 1 every single time you get a new score. There is no way to hide or disable this counter and the devs claim on the steam boards that this issue lies with Valve. However, I am certain there has to be a better way to store this data because plenty of other indie games do it(or at least opt out). Minor but very annoying for people like me who like their steam profile to be clean.
Solid speedrun game, clearly made by speedrunners. Even if you're not into speedrunning, this game could offer plenty fun. That's because there's a points system for if you're not into going as fast as you can. Points allow for a whole leaderboard of routing differently than time would. Less about speed, and more about precision and game knowledge. There's a lot of movement depth here. Perfect jumps for speeds, sliding to gain speed, explosions to propel you towards something, dashing with katanas, throwing anvils to force your direction around. And so on. And probably more to come, since, at the time of writing, this game is still in EA. Developers are great, easy to reach on the Discord server, and listen to feedback! If runners really hate a fastest route, they'll find a way to change it and make things better. If we encounter bugs, they'll fix them next patch, and tell everyone the community told them about it. Rare to see these days, and always great when it happens.
Leaving a negative review due to lack of communication from devs. Been 19 months since an update but they still promote and try and sell the game. The last update saying that the 1.0 release is in two months and to share with friends then simply not following up and going radio silent outside of ads. Feels a bit scummy. Gameplay wise it has potential but has some weird design choices, like asking you to bunnyhop in the tutorial then forcing you to stop repeatedly. It's basically mirror's edge but the protag has a gravity gun.
It's like Mirror's Edge, but now main character has instant action gravity gun from HL2DM, and now every level is speedrun-oriented to the point of masochism. So now instead of delivering packages which bad people want to take from you, you deliver various things AT bad people with extreme velocity then get out ASAP. The main stop-and-die gimmick seems stupid at first but easy to get used to, and you always can turn it off in the settings in exchange for loss of leaderboard and achievements. Not really a big deal. Game has actually good OST and graphics style, I appreciate this grimy smeared comic texture look, it enriches game's trashy cyberpunk setting. The controls are good enough to blame only yourself for most mistakes. You have bunnyhop, slide dash, and thrown objects give you boost because newtonian laws yay. Also there is fair amount of humor, which makes most of the questionable game design practices and difficulty spikes game throws at a player more tolerable. The plot is about criminal convict who gets caught by some evil corporation researching bionics and psionics, and being wired with unique set of implants, which lets them use telekinetic powers but also gives them targets to kill or other directions, and is able to kill them if they disobey in any way, which includes just standing and refusing to do it as fast as humanly possible. Then this implant gets hacked by various rogue AI's who give mixed instructions and conflicting between themselves, so this creates some dark comedic situations and chaos all around for player to witness and inflict upon world and themselves. At the moment of this review being published devs did not finished the story yet, so there is no ending at the moment. But the game is pretty good and worth trying out if you like to cut through some bull%it at extreme speed.
I got this game for around a dollar and it is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ steal. I will admit like i am a dumbass who has a hard time playing games that are too fast paced like ultra kill or echopoint nova but even then this game is fun and unique and imo worth the original price let along the 2 dollar sale it is going for at the time of me writing this review.
The game is clearly abandoned, or at least not getting any communication from the devs in the last 6 months, and it uploads your levels as steam workshop levels inaccessible to you. My profile now says I have 72 uploads on the workshop. Very cool. The difficulty curve at the end starting with "Gap" is so atrocious that it made me quit entirely. Christ alive you really gotta playtest these better.
Seriously one of the most fun games I've played in a long time. <3
90% Discount was definitely a steal
