really liked the heavy setting and the way the story unravels. its point n click so of course it has some bongcloud puzzles, but nothing too crazy. i just hope no one ever calls me to bake cookies again, bc i would have a ptsd crisis.

pretty cool
this game sucks, the end.
Missed opportunity in my view. The story and the style are really good, but execution is weak. Pros: - graphics were not bad at the time of release - nice Gothic atmosphere, especially in Prague - nice atmospheric music - interesting, noir story Cons: - there's not much of actual playing, mostly cut-scenes and A LOT of walking around - way too linear - few puzzles that *are* present are mostly very hard to guess and/or solve - laser/tile puzzle is time limited to seconds, which kills all the mood of the game, since it turns it into non-point-and-click adventure - the game under Linux glitches a lot if a player tries to alt-tab back to Steam; it has to be killed and relaunched almost every time - extremely annoying "Czech" names and especially their pronunciations
ATMOSPHERIC POINT & CLICK GAME, A MOST PLEASANT SURPRISE I've played quite a number of point & click games. They used to be my favorite genre for a time, though I have gotten a bit tired of them somewhat. However, I greatly enjoyed Still Life! ++++ The ATMOSPHERE in this game is PHENOMENAL - If you a sucker for atmospheric games, go for this one. Chicago is great, Prague is even better. Seriously. +++ story is engaging +++ characters are life-like and likeable +++ For the most part, you can logically deduce where to go, what to etc., and when in doubt you can consult the diary, which is often helpful. this is rare in point & click adventures so it deserves special praise. ++ all dialogue is voice acted, quality from excellent to just fine. ++ graphics are fine in my book, quality wise, they contribute greatly to the atmosphere ++ PUZZLES are generally good - some are VERY hard, but not in a bad, unfair way. If you have a great memory, just love puzzles, or are willing to take notes and spent time on them, the puzzles will be a great plus in your book. + music and ambience... I don't really remember. I think they are good, definitely helping the atmosphere. I was never bothered by them, which is nothing to take for granted. - the movie effect: There are parts that just don't make sense. Like a police station with no guards and almost no cameras. In Chicago. Ok...? At one point (or rather: over a short period of time) towards the end of the game, the player's character literally loses her mind. While she's supposed to be an excellent investigator, she suddenly behaves in an abjectly stupid way, ignoring what was blatantly obvious at that point. It's so aggrigious you might almost want to scream - but then remember it's just a game. You've probably seen worse writing in blockbuster movies. The game's writers could definitely have done a better job though, which I don't get since it doesn't match the overall quality and could have been done better quite easily I would say. -- There's some old-game clunkiness with the mechanics, and a lack of convenience, like skipping movement. You can jog, albeit slowly. You can't skip certain animations, the elevator scene etc. I find that actually ok, though, as this way, the atmosphere (again, the atmosphere) is preserved better, I think. It's best to play this game with patience and take in the moment. Also take your time to think what to do next. That way, I didn't have to backtrack too much so after some slight initial irritation I let it go and that paid off. -- There is some pixel hunting. For the most part, the game is rather straight-forward what to pick up and what to do, which makes those instances all the more annoying and rather surprising. As with such games in general .... keep a guide handy, just in case. You'll probably want to consult it at least when it comes to the harder puzzles and probably for the pixel-hunt.
great classic point and click graphic adventure with an intense story highly recommend
Great sound and visuals but some puzzles are too hard
