About
Steel Artery is a train-city building simulator set in a steampunk fantasy world. Your task is to create a thriving city on wheels, where every wagon is a new piece of infrastructure and every decision shapes the lives of thousands of inhabitants.
Once upon a time, the Empire built the legendary Steelpolis, a colossal train that showcased technological power, economic dominance, and authority. It traveled across vast provinces, enforcing order, collecting tribute, and dazzling the masses. But now, the Empire’s treasury is empty, its lands fractured, and its infrastructure on the brink of collapse. To save it, the Emperor revives the abandoned project—and you are appointed as the mayor of this reborn city on rails.
Unlike traditional city-builders, you do not give direct commands. Citizens are autonomous, driven by their own needs and choices. They work, eat, rest, and spend money based on their own choices and circumstances. A worker may refuse a faraway job, quit after earning enough gold, or pick a new profession entirely. You provide opportunities—they shape their lives.
Humans, elves, orcs, and other races bring unique needs and values to your train. They form relationships, carry their own histories, and interact in ways that can foster cooperation or create cultural tension. Managing these diverse communities is as vital as expanding your economy.
Every building generates or consumes resources. Workers need salaries, inns charge for rest, and diners demand payment for meals. To keep your city thriving, you must stop in resource-rich regions, extract what you need, and plan your wagon layouts carefully. Space is limited, logistics are complex, and efficiency is the key to survival.
Will you design a compact, fast-moving train for a tight human colony, or create a sprawling leviathan filled with thousands of inhabitants? Each path offers unique challenges and emergent stories.

More broken than the demo was. For some reason my carriers just refuse to load coal into the engine so the train won't go anywhere, there's one guy stood around stuck at the coal thing which is possibly what is blocking. Freezing and unfreezing the engine has no effect. Disappointing as I found the demo very engaging
This game is a bizarre allegory for real life (not in a good way)
I really wanted to like this game, and for the 1st few hours it seemed to be ok, It did feel like the tutorial was rushing me a bit towards an arbitrary goal, and since the rest of the tech tree was locked behind that goal presumably, and I could see I was starting to run low on starting resources I played along. I notice I'm starting to run low on plates and I need the "pressing" research to build the workshop that produces these, I have a warehouse full of iron ingots so I figure I'm good, So I rush the quest, only to find out (because there's no way to see beforehand) that actually the pressing workshop needs gears, and I don't really have any, so no I need to unlock the assembly workshop, and I need to mine copper. but I can't build either of these because... I don't have plates so we already hit the 1st soft lock, where resource producer don't follow the bootstrapping rule. but I'm like hey man I've played hard games, I beat frostpunk and ixion I can figure this out, so I remember you can 100% refund the materials on buildings, so eventually I deconstruct enough buildings and structural blocks to get these to build, but by that point some of my other problems are starting to hit critical mass, I was surviving off fish, so I try to switch to gathering vegetables, but once again I have to cannibalize more stuff, but not having great options I start cannibalizing things like toilets and showers, and at that point getting 40% satisfaction in a need was considered normal so my citizen needs satisfaction is falling rapidly and no one want to work, though oddly happiness is in the 90%+ weird... so I spend far too much time freezing several other buildings, trying to get someone, anyone to just decide of their own free will to go work as a constructor, and they finally build the gatherers house, but again... no one is filling the vacancies because everyone is starving, and everyone is starving BECAUSE NO ONE IS FILLING THE VACANCIES TO GO GATHER FOOD, so at this point I've lost 1/2 my max population on the train. On top of that I was also running low on coal, I had the recipe to turn logs into charcoal in the industrial furnace, but also people aren't coming to work, and the few that are don't have enough wood because no one is coming to work at the woodcutter house, There does appear to be something of a priority system in the tech tree but it's at the very end, but I'd argue you need this much earlier, and I wasn't producing any more research because I had to freeze that building and lay everyone off so they'd go be constructors and gatherers. I think possibly if you had the tech tree unlocked from the beginning that might help, since the game lacks a work priority system because everything is profit and self-interest driven. Assuming that last run of the tech tree is the ability to customize the daily salary of buildings that could help prioritize but it shouldn't be locked so far back down the tech tree. From reading the Steam forums the developer has a clear VISION for this game and doesn't seem all that willing to listen to fairly reasonable feedback I've seen other players give them. That's partly why I compare this train simulation to the real world, when you make the motive for everything profit and self-interest you get something that rather resembles the real world and that tends to be a somewhat dysfunctional mess, it is an interesting concept but I think it needs a lot more balance, and probably some rethinking of the early game, I would urge the developer to go play though Frostpunk again, sure sometimes you have to make hard choices and you lose something but it always feels deserved and fair, and that's not the case here, it just feels like I need to save scum in order to win. I'm well past 2 hours so I'll be keeping an eye on patch notes.

I like trains
very boring and way to complex
It is definitely early access but i love it and i think it will be amazing in the future.
Bugs... Bugs... Bugs...
Авансом за красивые анимации
This game is really great. I really like not manually assigning people to places, that mechanic has become very exhausting in games I think. Addicting so far
