I recently tried using Meta Link, and well... You guys at Steam; i love you, really. Your moderation regarding account recovery is incredible, and you're very responsive. However, your VR app is really, really bad. Let me break down the good and the bad: The Negatives: - I experience freezes right in the middle of a session, forcing me to stop playing for a few seconds. This happens constantly, even though I have an excellent internet connection (around 800–900 Mbps). Consequently, I’ve lost matches during combat because the game froze at the worst possible moment, leaving me absolutely furious (game played: Ghost of Tabor). -The app sometimes causes glitches with my in-game character for instance, my in-game hands end up positioned too high compared to real life (e.g., in real life, I was holding my right controller in front of my face, but in the game, it appeared above my head). This is clearly a SteamVR issue, as I didn't experience it with Meta Link. -SteamVR crashes occasionally. Even though I have a good internet connection, it sometimes lags a bit; it’s striking how demanding this app is regarding connection speed. Users with poor connections simply can't play in VR, whereas Meta Link is much less demanding in this regard. The Positives: -Ultra-easy to use: just download and launch the app (you need the Steam Link app on your Meta Quest headset). -No complex setup: No complicated configuration needed; you launch the app on the headset and SteamVR on your PC, and SteamVR detects both. This contrasts with Meta Link, which forced me to update my graphics drivers, the headset, and even the app itself yes, I had to figure out the solution on my own with Meta. Plus, you have to hope your headset doesn't get stuck on the loading screen indefinitely (a well-known bug); I was lucky, and it worked for me. My advice to the devs: add a wired connection mode like Meta Link's. I think that would prevent the freezing and disconnections, which clearly seem to stem from your very poor cloud-gaming servers. Final verdict: My opinion is certainly negative, but if I had to give advice to others: use Meta Link, even though it's a NIGHTMARE to set up. Alternatively, you can use SteamVR, but be prepared for a horrible experience or not, if you get lucky. which is not the case for me.
