There are two kinds of people: the rulers and the ruled. The Heights are a gorgeous utopia. The Depths, a filthy industrial wasteland. Our heroine, raised in the Heights, has nothing but contempt for those below.

Very boring. Trite, shallow plot and worldbuilding. Most of the endings are bad and not satisfying.
This game was recommended to me as a similar vibe to EvenIfTempest, but other than the MC having a sword and sometimes fighting thats where the similarities end. Other than winning a few sword fights I found the MC to be mostly annoying and dumb. The main characters were okay, but none of them were great. It seemed like some parts dragged and others needed more content. Its okay but nothing special, but nowhere near as good as the hype seemed to make it.
finn is so relatable
Steam Prison Review (Major Route Spoilers) I finished every main route, and while I genuinely enjoyed Steam Prison, I also feel like it constantly stopped just short of becoming something truly amazing. The game has incredible worldbuilding, memorable characters, and some genuinely emotional moments, but almost every route suffers from pacing issues, inconsistent logic, and rushed conclusions. The common route immediately hooked me with its unique setting and intriguing mysteries, but it also introduced one of my biggest issues with the game: inconsistent logic. Throughout the prologue, I often found myself questioning characters' decisions, the rules of the world, and the way conflicts were presented. There were several moments where events happened simply because the plot needed them to, rather than because they felt like natural consequences of the world's established rules. Despite that, the mysteries were compelling enough to keep me invested. I genuinely wanted to uncover the truth behind Cyrus's parents, the Saint, the Heights, and the Depths, hoping the later routes would tie everything together in a satisfying and logically consistent way. Eltcreed My favorite route in the game. He immediately caught my attention. Visually, he isn't really my type, although I think he looks much better without his glasses. What made me love him was his personality. His constant bickering with Ulrik was one of the funniest parts of the game. His route has the best balance between romance and plot. The relationship develops naturally as they spend time together, tease each other, and slowly build trust. I especially enjoyed Eltcreed's assertive way of courting Cyrus. Considering she grew up in a society where romance was practically forbidden while he is incredibly experienced, I thought their dynamic worked surprisingly well. Unlike many other routes, the story focuses on one central conflict instead of juggling countless mysteries at once. Unfortunately, the ending still suffers from the same issue as every other route: several dramatic moments feel unnecessary, and the final chapters rush through important plot points. Even so, it remained my favorite ending in the game. Ines Ines is probably my favorite character alongside Eltcreed. He's reliable, mature, intelligent, and his relationship with Cyrus feels built on mutual trust. His route also has one of the strongest mystery plots in the game. The investigation was genuinely engaging, and it was the first route that actually answered some of my questions about Cyrus's case. Unfortunately, romance takes a back seat. Most of the story focuses on solving the mystery, leaving surprisingly few romantic moments between the couple. The ending once again rushes through revelations that deserved much more time. I was also frustrated by the dialogue choices. Many options were phrased so vaguely that I couldn't predict Cyrus's actual response, making several "correct" choices feel like guesswork rather than meaningful decisions. Adage The biggest surprise. I expected another cold tsundere whose route would require Cyrus to become passive and obedient in order to reach the good ending. Thankfully, that wasn't the case. His personality completely changed my first impression. Rather than being emotionally unavailable, he's straightforward, mature, and surprisingly caring. His romance feels refreshingly natural, and his route finally answers several questions about Cyrus's past that previous routes avoided. My only major complaint is the ending. Some of the drama felt completely unnecessary. Spoiler: Adage accepting responsibility for the other doctor's death made no sense to me. Technically, the doctor caused his own death, making the entire situation feel like forced drama instead of a believable consequence. Ulrik This route frustrated me more than almost any other. Ironically, I love Ulrik everywhere except in his own route. In every other route he's funny, sarcastic, clever, and entertaining. His own route somehow removes many of the qualities that made me like him. The first half is incredibly frustrating. The romance is built around Cyrus constantly responding to Ulrik's rude behavior with endless patience. Instead of naturally growing closer, it feels like she's simply trying to earn his approval. Then comes the betrayal. Cyrus ends up in a situation where she could realistically have been tortured or killed, yet the story barely acknowledges what happened afterward. There is almost no meaningful redemption, so by that point I had completely lost interest in the romance. Ironically, the second half becomes genuinely sweet... if you can somehow forget everything that happened in the first half. Yune My biggest disappointment. This route started incredibly strong. For the first time, Cyrus behaved exactly the way I had expected her to from the very beginning. Her arrest finally made sense, she asked the questions I had been waiting for, and her grief over her parents felt genuine. But then the romance became increasingly strange. The mythology never felt fully explained, and the rules surrounding Yune's curse constantly contradicted themselves. By the finale, I was no longer excited to uncover the truth—I simply wanted the route to end. Considering how strong the beginning was, this became the biggest disappointment in the game for me. Overall Thoughts Steam Prison constantly introduces fascinating mysteries and keeps the player asking questions, but it rarely delivers equally satisfying answers. Almost every route follows the same pattern: an excellent setup, a strong middle section, and then a finale that rushes through major revelations within just a few chapters. Another recurring issue is the reliance on avoidable misunderstandings. Too many conflicts could have been resolved if the characters had simply communicated honestly, making some of the drama feel artificial rather than emotionally earned. Despite all of that, my frustration isn't directed at the characters—I genuinely liked almost everyone. It's the wasted potential that disappointed me the most. Overall: 7/10 Amazing characters. Fascinating world. Strong mysteries. Unfortunately held back by rushed pacing, inconsistent internal logic, and endings that rarely live up to their incredible build-up.
