Steam Heroes

An OK match 3 spoiled by amateurish 2d art, an annoying tendency to crash and (worst of all) an annoying control scheme that makes manipulating the tiles hit and miss. Oh it also has an annoying main menu, you have to hit space rather than mouse to skip cutscenes, there's no way to set resolution, no graphics options. I thought the way to exit and save your progress would be to press b to retreat on the cutscene screen. Turns out this abandons your progress and the way to save it is to press escape mid game then delete. Good going devs. Thanks a bunch. Never mind, I don't really want to play this again anyway. Avoid. There are countless better match 3 games out there.

Even at the current discounted price of $2.99, I can't recommend this game. It feels like a rushed game jam entry. My standards are relatively low for match 3 games, but this one fights you every step of the way, destroying any chance of having fun. Puzzle Quest, Puzzle Quest 2, 10000000, Loot Hunter, and Bret Airborne were all more enjoyable (in descending order of recommendation). Edit: If you're wondering why I play so long, even though I didn't enjoy it, the answer is "trading cards" Most of my time is letting the game run in the background after I got bored.

Literally the worst controls in any game I have ever played. Space is accept except for sometimes when enter is accept. Delete is cancel. It's a match three game where you have to use WASD to slowly and manually move the cursor instead of using the mouse like any sensible match three game.

If you're thinking, "This looks like a budget version of Puzzle Quest," it's not. The "story mode" takes about 35 minutes to play through, consists only of battles against 12 marginally different opponents (no map or choices to make), and when you're done even says explicitly that the story mode was "designed as a tutorial, and designed to be easy to complete." The "real game" is the "hero mode", where you just pick one of those 12 opponents and play against them, trying to get a high score. And how is that game? There's really very little strategy in this "puzzle strategy game." It's real-time, and moves quickly enough that there's no time to plan moves. Even if there were, the visual effects (including even the basic effects from your own matches) obscure the board and get in the way. That bit about "not every match is a good one" really only applies to the last of the 12 opponents. Basically, it comes down to spamming as many matches as you can, and occasionally hitting the 1-3 keys to activate special abilities. It also suffers from a pet peeve of mine in match-3 games: As far as I can tell, you don't get the "4-match" bonus (whatever that might be) from a T-match, so if you see a T setup, you may be better off taking the straight 4 than full T-match of 5.

Well.. this is a bejewed on steroid. Same type of concept.. connect 3.. connect 4 and connect 5 to clear. You have 3 heros match up with the 3 basic color. if you able to clear one color fast enough you will be able to use that color's special power. (1. attack 2. heal and 3 defense). There are also potions to heal your hero and bomb to damage against the boss. Not really that many level until u reach the final boss baron smog. Each boss have unique special ability that does all kind of things from block your view to poison your potion. The only problem I had though story mode was against the finnal boss. IT took me 3 tries.. well.. maybe 4. The voice acting, sound effect, graphics are all quite good. Cartoonish yet good like watch G.I.J cartoon 20 something years ago. Once you comnplete the game you unlock hero mode which let you play as one of the boss you defeated and try to beat time and score for world record. The story doesn't seems quite end at the end of the game too. So we can expect a steam hero 2 eventually. 8/10.. I didn't have crush or control problem like some of the other reviewers. I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Avoid this like its an STD and go play Puzzle Quest 2. Cause that game is better then this!
