Completely lost faith in this developer/publisher. My friend bought this game for 3 of us. So we can play together. It was clear the game was struggling and that's understandable but the fact that you made the game single player , We have no possible way to even play the game together. So he basically wasted his money buying it 4 times. only for you guys to do this. Completely abandoned game and ruined it by taking out Co-op. Not trusting this team again. If I see a great looking game and I see "Pahdo Labs" I'm definitely staying away.
I played the demo for this game during the 2025 Steam Next Fest and it showed a lot of potential. There were a lot of people in their servers, and it ultimately made me want to buy it when it came out for early access. Unfortunately, when they released, there were problems with the servers, it was laggy as heck for me for some reason. It wasn't like that during the demo. Weeks after, fewer and fewer people were playing. The servers still can't keep up. I always had to get carried since ghosts were attacking me somewhere. Even when they said they "fixed it" it somehow became worse. I still played daily, dwindling down until I stopped around October/November. Sometimes going back when there's an update. It also didn't help how grindy the game was in terms of crafting charms and cosmetic. Each dive was giving you 300 currency when you need somewhere around 3k. The unfortunate news about them closing their doors and removing online play - with no plans on making it P2P instead before they ultimately close their doors - really broke my trust with this company/developer. I tried playing it yesterday, the empty overworld really made me miss the people I've met there. Is it even worth it to play a game that was advertised as a social game and not having any means to socialize with anyone? That's why I can't recommend this game. Even though I love this game, the dev's have left it to be forgotten. (They even made a new demo for a new game that's basically a reskin of this game saying it's a "successor" to this game.) All I hope for is that the devs would at least have the DECENCY to pass on the game to someone else who is willing to make it possible for their fanbase to continue enjoying it. To at least have some semblance of what they promised. An actual game where people can socialize and dive with.
!!! OR AT LEAST MAKE IT OPEN FOR MODS IF THEY DONT WANT TO SHARE THEIR FILES !!!!
Also, their notice mentioned "All players who purchase or purchased Starlight Re:Volver automatically unlock all dekos (cosmetics) ever made by default". English isn't my first language so I read that as the cosmetics are unlocked and can be equipped. Let me tell you what's up: I still have to grind the materials to make them. I think they should make that part clear.
!!! IT'S JUST UNLOCKED FOR CRAFTING !!!
Imagine crafting a cosmetic after diving 6 times with each dive being at least 30 minutes??? What about the support players who now have to deal with being dps??? I guess they raised the currency reward from 300 to 500, but it's still not enough for a dead game!!! I'm still seething. I forgot to mention the game still tries to connect to the servers and takes a while to load since it can't connect. Or they didn't remove that part in their loading screen.
so, i fell for an anime crypto scam...
while i liked the game and saw its potential, using early access to crowdfund is lowk frowned upon :( "You should not use Early Access solely to fund development. If you are counting on selling a specific number of units to complete your game, then you need to think carefully about what it would mean for you or your team if you don't sell that many units. Are you willing to continue developing the game without any sales? Are you willing to seek other forms of investment?" i would love to see them continue to work on the game but clearly this dev team was not willing to continue development despite sales and that makes me sad.
I know im late to the review party but this is still a massive disappointment i got this game as a early birthday gift when the game "released" Pahdo Labs raised $17.5 million only to run the game into the ground and blame 'financial strain' for why updates are stopping its hard to buy that excuse when they are already recycling assets for their next prototype "Edge of Divinity" They didnt run out of money they just dont know how to keep it The game was a fun distraction for a few mins lmao but other then that keep your distance as far away as u can from the so called "pahdo labs" lmao
TLDR; I think the dev's mishandled both the announcement, server discontinuation, and continuing game sales. This game was ment to be a co-op game with mmo-like mechanics and now does not even have servers. I do not know the exact dev situation and I will not claim to, but this is a case of game abandonment. A lot of people suspect they spent too much on advertising and that they couldn't make it through actual development. This game was supposed to be an online multiplayer game with time-exclusive cosmetics, along with cosmetics for being a demo-player. All of which was removed. It also personally sets me off that they called them "FOMO" accessories (in-game term being "deco"s) which where that is true to an extent, that's not what a formal company would say. Nor what you should say about your own game. I also don't understand how they would see the game staying up for the same price, or up at all for that matter as a good thing. And while I don't wish for people to take their games down because they "failed" I do feel that since the main aspect of the game which is co-op cannot be played propperly, it should at least be a lowered price.
Here's the thing: The game was fun It had charm into it, it had good stepping stones to create a multiplayer, twin-shooter roguelike, hell, I loved the game when it came out. Even from the next fest that it came out from, it was already promising. Maybe it didn't ride with the hype, maybe the developers couldn't keep up with making content with how much traction they got, maybe they run away with the funding that they've gotten and trying to save face. This is a lot of maybes and it will stay that way since the studio is shutting the game down due to lack of funding. What really hurts for me is that the game could've been better: It lacked content, unnecessarily grindy, and even shoved the multiplayer aspect of the game away and left it to die a single player experience. Everything that this game had built: The community, the trust, gone in an instant. All because of "lack of funding" What really sucks is that they had a prototype of another game, which is essentially the same game with a fresh coat of paint and some slight gameplay changes about it's roguelite progression. They could've release that in this game as a massive update, find ways for the game to work on a P2P connection instead of having everything into a dedicated server and still kept the game alive. Once again, I love the game. I just hate how the developers and the studio handled it
i wish i had refunded this game before it went under. I brought the game to play with my friends, but now it's useless.
I was really excited for this game...but not only did they not make it steam deck compatible, but after shutting it down they didn't even enable any sort of local or p2p multiplayer, it's now solo ONLY. Won't be trusting this dev's future games if they can't even do that. EDIT: They have now announced and put out a demo for their new game...which is an almost 1-to-1 copy of this game, without two of the characters, and with a couple slightly altered systems. With no word on any level of discount or free copy for people who bought this game. Pahdo Labs is not to be trusted.
it definitely had the potential. sad to see it go, but here's to hoping pahdo can make a miraculous comeback and here's to hoping for brighter futures for their team. (Also the game still has a great aesthetic and feels decently fun to play, so no complaints from me)
