normally i enjoy these types of games. but this one has game breaking bugs that make it impossible to play for more than a few minutes at a time. this was not the case when i first got it, it was quite enjoyable upon its release. but now it's freezing up when you try to start a mission.
Star Trek Legends is a role-playing adventure that embraces the rich history of the Star Trek franchise by bringing together iconic heroes and villains from multiple television series into a single narrative experience. Developed by Emerald City Games and published by Tilting Point, the game builds its appeal around the fantasy of assembling a dream crew composed of legendary figures from across different timelines and generations. Rather than focusing on a single era, it draws inspiration from the entire Star Trek universe, creating a crossover adventure that feels like a tribute to decades of storytelling. The central storyline revolves around the mysterious Nexus, a powerful phenomenon familiar to longtime fans of the franchise. This narrative device serves as the catalyst for bringing characters from different periods together as they confront a threat that could impact the galaxy on a massive scale. While the story is not particularly groundbreaking within the RPG genre, it successfully captures the adventurous spirit and exploratory themes associated with Star Trek. The writing does a respectable job of showcasing familiar personalities and creating interactions that many fans have likely imagined but never had the chance to see in official canon. One of the game's strongest features is its extensive roster. Players can recruit a large selection of characters inspired by numerous Star Trek series, each possessing unique abilities and combat roles. The satisfaction of collecting beloved captains, officers, warriors, and even notorious antagonists becomes a major driving force behind progression. Every new addition to the crew expands tactical possibilities and encourages experimentation with different squad combinations. This emphasis on character collection gives the game long-term appeal and creates a rewarding sense of accomplishment as the roster continues to grow. Combat takes place through turn-based encounters that prioritize strategy over reflexes. Success depends on understanding character strengths, balancing team compositions, and timing special abilities effectively. Every crew member contributes distinct skills that reflect their personalities and roles within the source material. The combat system is easy to understand yet offers enough depth to keep battles engaging throughout much of the campaign. Players who enjoy planning their moves and optimizing team synergies will find plenty of opportunities to refine their tactics. Progression is another area where Star Trek Legends keeps players invested. Characters can be upgraded through multiple systems that improve their effectiveness in battle. Leveling, equipment enhancements, and skill development all contribute to a steady sense of growth. Watching a favorite character evolve from a basic recruit into a powerful cornerstone of the team is consistently satisfying. The game also provides a variety of objectives and challenges that encourage players to continue strengthening their crews beyond the main storyline. Visually, the game adopts a stylized presentation that prioritizes recognizable character designs over realism. The art direction successfully captures the identities of many famous Star Trek figures while maintaining a colorful and accessible look. Environments, animations, and special effects contribute to a polished science-fiction atmosphere without overwhelming the screen during combat. The interface is intuitive and generally succeeds in making the game's various progression systems easy to navigate. One of the more welcome aspects of the Steam version is its focus on delivering a complete experience. Players can enjoy the campaign, character collection systems, and progression mechanics without the level of monetization pressure often associated with mobile-inspired RPGs. This allows the gameplay loop to feel more rewarding and less dependent on constant purchases, making it easier to appreciate the content on its own merits. The game is not entirely free from flaws. Repetition can become noticeable after extended play sessions, particularly when completing numerous battles that follow familiar patterns. Some progression systems may feel grind-heavy for players hoping to unlock and upgrade characters quickly. Additionally, while the strategic combat is enjoyable, it rarely introduces mechanics that significantly distinguish it from other turn-based squad RPGs. Those unfamiliar with Star Trek may also find that much of the game's appeal relies heavily on nostalgia and franchise recognition. Despite these shortcomings, Star Trek Legends succeeds as a celebration of one of science fiction's most enduring franchises. Its combination of accessible turn-based combat, extensive character collection, meaningful progression systems, and fan-focused storytelling creates an experience that will resonate strongly with Star Trek enthusiasts. While it may not revolutionize the RPG genre, it delivers a satisfying adventure filled with familiar faces, tactical battles, and a genuine appreciation for the universe it represents. Rating: 7/10
It's an adaptation from the mobile version, sometimes crashes, but if you buy it when it's on sale, you won't refret it.
Fun game that you are able to play at anytime and rewards come easy to collect all characters
It doesn't have Mirror Universe smokin' hot Empress Hoshi, so it's just 4/10. +2 for hilarious sound effects when playing combats at 4x speed, -1 for not having Vash, -1 for it being a crasharama, so still 4/10.
A bit repetitive, but a lot of fun nonetheless. Not sure how the replayability is, but I hop in daily and have for months.
Cute character styling. Typical mobile game loop. An addictive grind. Could be more enjoyable without the constant crashing. Would welcome the following improvements: - way to view your inventory when in the shop so you're not buying blindly or bouncing from menu to menu to see what you already have - crew member stats when filling the away team roster - recommended stats for areas you're about to enter - mission map with stats, better indicators on how to 100% - being able to play any operation on any day of the week, I get it, you want people coming back, but it makes grinding for certain resources so much more tedious. - mouse scrolling on the crew page
