This game is geared towards kids (4+) so do not expect to much, However it is still fun to play as an adult! You play as a cat, exploring the map of "Spookity Hollow" On your adventures you collect coins, Pumpkins, Gather fellow cat friends, and even pick up cute outfits for your Kitty. If you're looking for a cute relaxing game and are a huge fan of Cats and Halloween it's a must to play! It's 2 player as well so more fun for you and your kid!
I love the "Playing with Gilbert" series with my daughter! Spookity Hollow is a labor of love, and we have had so much fun playing it. The stories written by the dev's daughter were a nice touch. I do wish this was a PWG DLC, instead of a standalone game. It uses the same start menu, though some of the content (seasons) has no effect.

Cute little game where you run around collecting pumpkins and bells and hats and glasses to wear and there's also a little minigame where you pick up fishes and uh yeah not much else really to it, if you want to unlock all the hats and glasses you could get a couple hours out of this game but overall really not that much content especially since there's a button you can press to find every collectible. I do like the halloween theme and all the pumpkins though. 5/10
Fun, spooky atmosphere. Loved running around looking for potions, brooms to ride on, and looking for the Pumpkin King . Swimming in the lake, walking around in the castle and in the graveyard was fun, too!

Spookity Hollow is a small indie sandbox adventure created and published by Joure Visser. Released on Steam in September 2021, the game presents a whimsical and slightly spooky world designed primarily for younger players and families. Instead of focusing on traditional horror or high-intensity action, the experience aims to encourage curiosity, creativity, and role-playing within a colorful environment. The design philosophy behind the game is to provide a safe and welcoming sandbox where players—particularly children—can learn how to interact with 3D worlds while exploring freely and experimenting with the game’s playful systems. The gameplay revolves around exploration in a third-person perspective, allowing players to wander through the charming environment of Spookity Hollow at their own pace. The world functions more like an interactive playground than a structured adventure with strict objectives. Players can roam across different areas of the map, interact with objects, and discover small secrets hidden throughout the environment. Because the game does not rely heavily on missions or scripted progression, it invites players to create their own stories through exploration and experimentation. This open-ended structure is especially appealing to younger audiences who enjoy imaginative play rather than strict rule-based gameplay systems. One of the central aspects of the game is character interaction and customization. Players can control various characters and personalize them with different cosmetic items that are discovered during exploration. These unlockable accessories provide a light sense of progression without introducing complex mechanics that might overwhelm younger players. Collecting new outfits and customizing characters gives players an incentive to explore the entire environment while also allowing them to express creativity in how their character looks. The setting itself contributes greatly to the charm of the experience. Despite the spooky name, Spookity Hollow presents a friendly interpretation of Halloween-style imagery. The environment includes pumpkin decorations, mysterious forests, ghostly shapes, and quirky structures that feel playful rather than frightening. The world is filled with colorful lighting and stylized architecture that creates an atmosphere of whimsical mystery rather than traditional horror. This design choice ensures that the game remains accessible even to very young players while still maintaining a fun and thematic identity. Visually, the game embraces a stylized cartoon aesthetic with simple character models and vibrant colors. While the graphics are not particularly complex from a technical standpoint, they suit the game’s tone well. The art style prioritizes clarity and personality over realism, making the world easy to navigate and visually inviting. The playful design of the characters and environments reinforces the game’s role as a relaxed sandbox rather than a demanding adventure title. The simplicity of the visuals also helps ensure smooth performance across a wide range of hardware. The sound design complements the game’s relaxed atmosphere. Soft background music provides a gentle ambience while players explore the environment, and subtle sound effects accompany interactions with objects and characters. These audio elements are intentionally unobtrusive, supporting the sense of calm exploration without overwhelming players with intense sound design. The interface is similarly simple and intuitive, allowing players to easily access character options, explore menus, and navigate the game without confusion. However, the open-ended design of Spookity Hollow also leads to some limitations that may affect players seeking a deeper experience. Because the game prioritizes free exploration over structured gameplay systems, there is relatively little challenge or long-term progression once players have explored most of the environment. The world itself is not particularly large, and many of its activities revolve around simple interaction rather than complex mechanics. For experienced players or those looking for goal-driven gameplay, the experience may feel somewhat shallow after a short period of exploration. Despite these limitations, the game succeeds in its intended purpose as a welcoming introduction to sandbox exploration games. Its focus on creativity and curiosity allows players—especially children—to experiment with movement, interaction, and role-playing in a stress-free environment. The lack of strict objectives can actually be a strength for younger audiences who enjoy making their own fun within a digital playground. In this sense, Spookity Hollow functions less like a traditional game and more like an interactive toy box that encourages imagination. Overall, Spookity Hollow is a charming and family-friendly sandbox adventure that prioritizes accessibility and creativity over complexity. Its colorful world, playful Halloween theme, and relaxed exploration mechanics create an inviting environment for younger players or anyone looking for a calm, low-pressure experience. While the limited scope and simple gameplay systems may not satisfy players seeking depth or long-term challenges, the game still offers a pleasant and imaginative world that can provide a few hours of enjoyable exploration. Spookity Hollow delivers a friendly and creative sandbox designed for curiosity and exploration, though its small scale and lack of deeper mechanics keep it from offering the long-term engagement found in more fully developed adventure games. Rating: 6/10
