sphereFACE is a retro-styled 3D vector shooter, wrapped around the inside of a sphere. An unashamedly abstract shooter that ranges from slow, strategic sniping to frantic rock-dodging action, with roguelike elements of exploration, progression, discovery and permadeath.

This is a 3D asteroids-em-up with a roguelike leaning. It's fun to shoot stuff right in the face (the sphereFACE) with lasers, so if you enjoy lasers then this game delivers. If you don't like lasers, what is wrong with you? Also, the soundtrack is good.
Just had my first win. sphereFACE is just fantastic. This dev knows how to make a game - lots of content, great atmosphere, awesome achievement progression, plenty of options, lore, and most importantly - a really fun and addicting game mechanic. The VR support is just icing on the cake (I didn't try it yet, though). When I first loaded this up, I almost immediately shut it down and refunded because of the wonky control setup. I think it was actually in 'VR mode'. But I was intrigued by the other reviews, and how they had 1) tons of playtime, and 2) talked about a large but satisfying learning curve. Yeah, that's true. I could barely steer the ship in the first 30 minutes, but now I'm jetting around and feel like a pro. It's neat. Essentially, this is a very modernized version of Asteroids. Of course, it's a roguelite, and that part is really fun. Whenever I died, I generally felt like it was my fault. You slowly but surely get better and start to understand how things work. The whole system is really neat. Each level is a sphere, which brings in some neat things like
as soon as you enter you should start shooting because your bullets just perpetually build up and fly around crushing stuff.
. All the different weapons are super cool and you can level them up. And while they could have stopped with making a really neat rogueish game, they added a nice gooey layer of lore. Usually these kinds of game are fairly one-dimensional with content, but this one delivers in nearly every aspect. Pros: +Really fun one-more-run effect here because every death feels legit and you slowly-but-surely learn. +The music is just fantastic. +The whole sphere-system is really neat and has a few tricks up it's sleeves. +VR support for smaller scale games like this is refreshing. +In the begining I was horrible at piloting the craft, but after an hour or two, you will slowly start to feel pretty pro. +Achievement progression is great. Cons: -You need to configure the game for your preferred camera style; and thankfully there are a ton of options :D -Just be aware that you may need some patience to break into this one Well worth full price.
SphereFace is a very fun game that I enjoy playing, shooting asteroids with different weapons. In it you can navigate your way through a maze of spheres connected by tunnels, each sphere is different and has pickups or suprises inside them. I really like the "bonesphere" part of the game, where if you die in the game you can then play again and find the sphere you died in to collect your items from the last try. The music is great too and fits the game well.
Cool retro game in VR, pretty steep learning curve with permadeath and restart. Need to watch your cables as you need all 360 degrees.
Really cool game! Love playing it when I have some free moments, it's always as challenging as the first time though :p Gonna be hard to master. If you find this on offer, definitely worth getting. And if it's not on offer, well, still a fun game to have for those moments when you have nothing to do. Linux support is greatly appreciated too!
Totally playable and totally unplayable at the same time! Almost too indie for its own good, 1/2 arcade game 1/2 arthouse. This game is a paradox and I'm glad it exists. I salute the creativity!
This is a really cool, indie shooter game. One of those games that you keep seeing more and more good stuff. It starts out strong, although perhaps a bit strange, as it is a very cerebral shooter. A lot of really cool things going on: tons of weapons that must be painstakingly upgraded, a three dimensional map meta-map, and an overall objective that must be discovered through repeated games. This is the astroids game that mrs. pacman must envision it when she closes her eyes during foreplay. sphereFACE has some very sexy gameplay for any action fan.
Note: This is an in-progress review that I'll be updating as I play the game more. sphereFACE is a roguelike Asteroids-style game with unique design, quality difficulty curve, and good soundtrack. When you first start, you'll be crashing into things really often. It'll probably feel like you can't effectively control your ship. I would recommend using mouse and keyboard for the extra precision both give you, turning off automatic deceleration for all spheres, and just sticking with it for a while. After around and hour, the controls finally started to click, and it got a lot easier. Something else to note is how things move inside the sphere—there's an interesting coordinate system at work that I can't place yet. Try just running loops around the equator in the starting sphere for a while at an angle and see what happens. (I can't really describe it ATM, but it does feel fine once you get what's happening.) The weapons seem pretty unique, with their own strengths and weaknesses. For example, the spreadGUN's got nice range and fires quickly, but you can screw yourself over powerup-wise if you're not careful with all the shots flying around. OTOH, the flakCANNON (one of my favorites) is quick and doesn't clutter up the sphere, but is short range and isn't as wide as a well-upgraded spreadGUN. You can figure out weapons fit your playstyle, and work on upgrading those. It's nicely flexible. Performance-wise, it runs fine on my laptop's Nvidia card, but only hits around 40 on integrated. I also tested it on my Linux partition and, while functioning fine, it couldn't reach above 45 even with primusrun & Bumblebee. (I am currently working with the devs to try and fix this.) Also, I've found rebinding controllers to be a bit crashy. All in all, I think it's worth the money so far, and I look forward to playing more and really figuring this game out.
