i've had this game for about 4 years now. Not 1000s of hours into it but enough to keep up with updates over the years. Though still in beta i have pretty much nothing but praise for the game devs. This game is fun solo but GREAT if played with friends who are really into this type of game. 10/10. Hope this game blows up a bit in the future *so long the devs don't stray and ruin the game because it blows up* because they deserve some credit *and funds* for making a great game.
If I were to compare this game to anything, its 2d minecraft in space. The foundation this game is built on is promising and I wish the devs all the best in the upcoming months. This game gets no where near the attention it and the devs deserve.
great game good lads, fun 10/10
amazing but it'd be so much better with ship Ai modules and combat feels somewhat unbalanced. there's some interesting weapons but alas beams seem to rule EVERYTHING
It's been like three hours and since this game seems to get not much attention, I'm gonna go ahead and throw a positive review at it. I will definitely come back at a later occasion to update. It's also in EA so, you know, there's that. Now, I've come from other space/building/block games such as Empyrion and others, so I do have a bit of knowledge with this sort of thing. That said, being brand new to a game means you know basically nothing about what it is and what it's supposed to do. By that I mean games like these usually have common fundamentals, but the basic of where to go or what to do are usually a total mystery since these types of games just drop you in the universe and say "go figure it out, stupid." That said, this game did a fantastic job of introducing me. It's not super smooth as it doesn't have much of anything for a tutorial, but the in-game help menu is very well laid out and the explanations had me on my way very quickly. For new players, this is a great thing. Honestly, this may be the best introduction to a game's systems I've seen in the entire genre. Now for the actual game, so far I've only flown around in the starting system and mined some basic stuff and killed some basic enemies. You can target critical components to prevent enemies from attacking you or warping away. I'm pretty sure killing the bridge just lets you make an attempt to retrieve entire components rather than salvage parts. So already I've run into the option of strategy for how you go into combat. Great start. Even mining has neat little bits. Everything has physics to it so if all the ore is in the center of an asteroid and you wanna pick it up without drilling a big enough hole to fit your whole ship in, you could cut the thing in half, taking out the weaker base rock and then just pushing one half away with your ship to give you room. As long as your ship can move something of the mass of said asteroid, you can move said asteroid. This is great when compared to other games where asteroids and objects are fixed in place. As I said, it's been only a few hours and already things are looking very promising. Every element I've come across looks like the dev has thought things out before implementation. What a breath of fresh air compared to the sweeping majority of this genre where so many games have things that barely work and generally don't make sense. Man I hope the rest of this game is as good as the early stages.
This game takes some getting used to. I originally thought it was real bad until I figured out its quirks. I can comfortably say this game is fun, and unique. For a space builder it has a lot of freedom - which is great. I love that I can build all size and manner of ships and I love that I can even build stations. But unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a lot there to do with that freedom. Sure, you can build a station. But why would you? You often aren't going to be revisiting old systems, and they can't be autonomous. Sure, you can build little drones for your hangar.. but why would you, they can't be autonomous. I also hate the arbitrary limitation on ship size and the amount of mounts you can have on one ship. I understand why, for balance purposes, especially for public multiplayer, you need to have some sort of limitation. But add a toggle for my singleplayer or private multiplayer game that removes it. I don't want to be forced to play creative mode in order to make a ship which feels like mine and does what I want to do. Also, some ability to automate your ships would be extremely welcome. It would open up a ton of possibilities for creativity and ease of progression if you could, say, create a fleet to follow you around.. or even better, build a space station, fill its hangars with ships.. and then give the station and ships instructions... imagine being able to build a station in an asteroid field (they would need to be made to replenish every so often which would also be a good change), give it some mining drones, instruct them to look for a certain material and mine it for the station.. which would then craft based on crafting orders you give it. It'd be great to get rid of that mindless grinding for materials when you're at the point that you should be above doing that. Also, the fact that you have to sit and have the crafting menu open in order to craft any materials and can't just have it idly in the background.. and can't queue up crafting orders either... real sucky. TL;DR It's good - but early access definitely shows. It needs some work.
