Space Hulk: Deathwing takes one of Warhammer 40,000's most iconic concepts and places players inside Terminator Armour while fighting through a Space Hulk overrun by Tyranids. On paper, it's an excellent idea. In practice, however, I constantly felt that the gameplay never fully evolved enough to take advantage of its own concept. Visually, the game looks good and remains faithful to the Warhammer 40,000 universe. However, graphics alone have never been enough for me to judge a game, and most of my criticism comes from the gameplay rather than its presentation. My biggest issue is how the game represents Terminator Armour. I understand that the developers needed to balance the gameplay, but I never truly felt like I was controlling one of the Imperium's most powerful warriors. More than the balance itself, I never felt the size, weight or overwhelming presence that a Terminator should have. It often feels like playing a standard Space Marine with a larger health pool instead of wearing one of Warhammer's most iconic and resilient suits of armour. Difficulty is another area where I believe the game makes the wrong decisions. Instead of increasing enemy numbers or creating more dangerous combat situations, it mainly relies on making enemies absorb significantly more damage. Bolt weapons fire explosive ammunition, so watching smaller enemies survive multiple shots removes part of the satisfaction those weapons should provide. I believe the game would have benefited far more from larger enemy hordes and better encounter design than simply turning weaker enemies into bullet sponges. Another major problem is how little the gameplay evolves throughout the campaign. After a few hours, you've already experienced almost everything the game has to offer. Most missions follow the exact same formula: move through corridors, eliminate enemies, hack a terminal, open a door and continue forward. The hacking mechanic had much greater potential than simply opening doors. It could have allowed players to control more defensive systems, manipulate the environment or create different tactical approaches during combat. Instead, it remains a very basic mechanic that never develops into something more meaningful. The game is enjoyable, especially when played with friends, but I constantly felt that many of its mechanics remained too simple for the concept it was trying to deliver. The gameplay never truly evolves, and while the campaign stays consistently entertaining, it also becomes increasingly repetitive because very few new mechanics are introduced as the game progresses. It is impossible for me not to compare it with Space Marine 2. Although both games belong to different generations, Space Marine 2 demonstrates how this concept can evolve. Weapons feel far more impactful, melee combat carries much greater weight, enemy reactions better represent the power of a Space Marine, and the overall gameplay does a much better job of delivering that fantasy. Deathwing never quite reaches that level, even though the foundation is already there. For that reason, I cannot recommend the game despite giving it a 6/10. I enjoyed finishing it, and I believe Warhammer 40,000 fans may still find value in experiencing it, especially if they simply want to explore another title set in the universe. However, the game's biggest weakness is also its most important one: it never fully delivers the fantasy of fighting as a Terminator. The foundation is solid, but too many mechanics remain basic, leaving behind a game that could have been far more memorable than what it ultimately delivers. Мне отнюдь не сложно влепить обзор и на "оригинал". Надо было пробовать игру в первые часы после покупки (5 лет назад) и оформлять возврат. Не смейте тратить время, нервы и деньги на этот "продукт" от streumных французов.
Review
I acquired this game a long time ago when there were barely any Warhammer games. Finally, a coop shooter adaptation from the space hulk boardgame. I tried it out and after some time you realize that the gameplay is absolutely lacklustre Gameplay The Space Hulk: Deathwing tries to combine slow, tactical squad-based shooting with the gameplay of a horde FPS but it fails to make either side work. Movement feels clunky and sluggish, which is intentional for Terminator armor, but instead the slow movement just increases gameplay time. Gunplay is alright but weapons lack feedback and impact from enemies. Melee combat is even worse as it feels pointless and underdeveloped. Ranged enemies are too strong to ignore therefore it’s not useful to take anything other than the regular storm bolter for yourself. You need communication with your other teammembers so there aren’t too many horde clearing or armor piercing weapons in the team. Enemy encounters quickly devolve into repetitive waves without proper level design to backup strand your ground situations. Levels are clearly designed first and then populated with tasks to do. Many pathways are useless to go. This might make sense from a lore or story perspective but less so in a gameplay sense. What baffles me is the decision to make your player character be able to run only for a few seconds which would save a lot of time in the big and long levels you have to play. The AI is a small issue. Squadmates sometimes just stop following or refuse orders. Multiplayer should have been the main focus, but the multiplayer is for the most part the same main story missions all over again. There is no progression system and player count was low on release and now its completely dead, which is unfortunate as the game is unique in its setting and movement, albeit not polished enough. Overall, the gameplay feels like a decent prototype rather than a final product. There is no long-term engagement and the intrinsic value of the game is not high enough to replay the same story levels again. They later added new levels and equipment but only revamped the multiplayer progression in form of an enhanced edition. After some time when the game wasn’t alive anymore. Story The story leans heavily on Warhammer 40K lore, but does very little to make it engaging. Even for fans, the storytelling is weak. Characters lack depth and have no personality. Plot mostly serves as an excuse to move from one mission to the next. There is little meaningful payoff, leaving the entire campaign feeling flat and forgettable. Sound Sound design is a strong point. Weapons don’t lack punch. Footsteps and ambient noises help for immersion proposes but there is no meaningful soundtrack. Graphics Visually, the game is very pretty. The focus on big maps that have a lot of detail baffles me as there is not much reason to revisit them. Especially some parts have no gameplay purpose at all. Conclusion/TL;DR The original Space Hulk: Deathwing is a flawed game with a strong concept but terrible execution. There is no long them commitment for the player to keep revisiting the rather mediocre gameplay. The setting is unique but it doesn’t help to make the game set itself apart as gameplay is more important than visual eye candy. It’s not a terrible game by any means, just forgettable.
It's my second playthrough, I'd already done a run on Enhanced and I wasn't planning on doing this again, but my friend wanted help with assists. Oddly enough, their tracker wasn't registering any assists regardless of host! They did for me, so milage may vary! Also, if I wanted to get all class branches in one go, I had to do it without closing the game. If I did I lost all skill points I didn't use. This was NOT the case for my friend, so again, milage may vary. Another bug was when trading assists, some enemies didn't show on my friends screen even though they were taking damage. 16k on SH.

Obrigado
This review is based on 100% completion and 31.7 hours of gameplay.
Recommendation:
Would I Recommend this game? No, not by itself. There is an Enhanced Edition of the game, so if you want to try it, I would recommend getting that version instead. I purchased the Enhanced Edition, and the original came with it for free anyway. The game itself is OK. It can be very clunky and janky at times, but overall it is a decent experience. However, I also ran into achievement issues that turned what should have been a straightforward completion into a huge chore. On top of that, there is simply an Enhanced Edition available that I would recommend over this version. As I have already completed and reviewed the Enhanced Edition, and the two games are essentially the same, most of my thoughts from that review still apply here. You can find a link to that review here. I'll just expand on a few things from that review and share my thoughts on this version. Gameplay-wise, the campaign takes around 4 to 6 hours depending on how quickly you move through it. Having already completed the Enhanced Edition, I found the difficulty fine, but new players may find it harder than it should be, even on the easiest difficulty. The combat and controls can feel very clunky and janky, with a variety of weapons and abilities to try, although some are much stronger than others and can trivialise the gameplay. I'll touch on this more in the achievement section. The AI is also not great and can be pretty frustrating when playing solo, so this is definitely more of a game to play with friends. That said, the AI companions are manageable if you don't have anyone to play with. Movement is a bit hit and miss as well. Because you're wearing Terminator armour, you move at a very slow walking pace with only short bursts of sprinting. I do like the bobbing and swaying, as it adds weight and makes you feel like a walking tank, but the overall movement can still feel quite clunky. When it comes to the audio, I actually had quite a few issues. Dialogue would sometimes have missing audio, weapon sound effects wouldn't play, and music could cut off abruptly. It was very unreliable. When it did work, though, the voice acting was decent and the sound design was good for the most part. As for the visuals, this is a really good-looking game, especially if you're running it on maximum settings. The enemy, environment and weapon designs all look great, and the environments feel suitably grandiose as you would expect from a Warhammer game. Since I had already experienced the game before, I decided to play this run on the lowest settings to focus more on performance, and even then, it still looked perfectly fine overall. Narratively, I think it's fine, but nothing amazing. It's easy enough to follow and gives you some context for what you're doing, but the story isn't the main focus for me. I see this as more of a fun horde shooter, either solo or with friends, where you can enjoy slaughtering Xenos in the name of the Emperor. Overall, the game itself is an OK experience, but between the clunky gameplay, technical issues and the achievement problems I ran into, I can't really recommend this version. If you're interested in playing it, I would recommend picking up the Enhanced Edition instead.
Achievement:
There are a few achievement-related bugs in this game that you should familiarise yourself with before starting. Most achievements are straightforward, but one can be particularly problematic. This is also the achievement that normally requires another player unless you encounter the bug that prevents the tracker from counting correctly. There is also a separate bug that my friend experienced with campaign-related achievements, which appeared to require the campaign to be completed in a single run. I did not experience this issue myself. Personally, I had no issues with any achievements besides the assists achievement. There does appear to be a bug where campaign achievements may not unlock properly across multiple sessions, although I didn't experience this. I had one crash during Chapter 2, died several times and reloaded saves without any issues, so based on my experience, you should be able to split the campaign across sessions. However, this may not be the case for everyone. All of the relics were also where they were supposed to be for me. I didn't encounter any of the missing relic issues that I have seen other players mention. There is a useful Steam guide by Predestruction, which covers both the original and Enhanced versions of the game. I would recommend checking it out before starting, as it goes over some of the known bugs and also provides useful tips and tricks for the achievements. There are also a couple of things that can make your completion much easier. The standard Heavy Plasma Cannon is easily one of the best weapons in the game and can trivialise a lot of encounters. I would also recommend saving your stat points until the end of Chapter 6, as this allows you to unlock all of the skill-related achievements at once. Once you have those achievements, put points into the perk that stops your weapons from overheating, as well as the perk that gives your companion a Plasma Cannon. With those, the rest of the game becomes much easier. The only achievement I had a major issue with was Brother in Arms, which requires you to perform 1,111 assists in multiplayer mode or the Special Missions. For whatever reason, the tracker for this achievement would not increase no matter what I tried, either on Steam or third-party achievement sites such as Completionist.me. We tried multiple methods, including:

Multiple multiplayer sessions farming assists using the tunnel method, both as the host and as the other player. This didn't work either way. The method did work for my partner, but my assists and kills simply wouldn't count.
Trying the method with Codex rules both enabled and disabled.
Trying to see if it would work at all in single-player.
Trying the Special Missions with bots.
Unfortunately, none of these methods worked for me. After doing some research, I found there are two methods that appear to reliably make the tracker increase if you run into this bug. The first is the Servitor method, where you tag enemies and then use the Servo Skull ability to finish them off. This does work, but it is extremely slow because the ability has a fairly long cooldown. The other method is the barrel method, which is what I ended up using. It still takes a while, but it is much quicker than relying on the Servo Skull. You load up Chapter 7 as an Apothecary so you can heal yourself, then loop around two rooms while tagging enemies and using explosive barrels to finish them off. It can be a little tricky to get into a good rhythm at first, but I found it much better than the alternative. Last Boy Scout has a good Steam guide covering the method, and CHONO2CH2ONO2x2 has a YouTube video showing the route to take. Other than Brother in Arms, I had no major issues with the achievements. But just be aware that this game can be a buggy mess.
