SOVL: Fantasy Warfare, developed and published by Dalen Studios, is a digital love letter to classic tabletop fantasy battles. Instead of chasing the spectacle and cinematic flair found in many contemporary strategy games, it focuses on replicating the deliberate pace and tactical depth that have defined miniature wargaming for decades. The result is a niche but compelling experience that understands its audience remarkably well. It is a game built around planning, army management, and the thrill of seeing a carefully crafted strategy either succeed brilliantly or collapse due to an unfortunate roll of the dice. The game's foundation lies in its adaptation of traditional tabletop mechanics into a streamlined digital format. Battles emphasize positioning, unit synergy, and terrain awareness rather than reflexes or rapid decision-making. Every movement across the battlefield carries weight, and each encounter can shift dramatically depending on how players deploy their forces. Dice-based combat adds an element of unpredictability that remains faithful to the genre's roots, ensuring that no victory ever feels guaranteed. This balance between strategy and chance creates memorable moments, particularly when an unlikely unit survives against overwhelming odds or a critical attack changes the course of a battle. One of SOVL's strongest offerings is its Trail of Death campaign mode, which introduces roguelite progression into the traditional wargaming formula. Starting with a small force and slowly building it into a legendary army gives the campaign a satisfying sense of growth. The procedural structure keeps encounters from becoming repetitive, encouraging players to adapt to changing circumstances instead of relying on a single winning strategy. Every run presents new opportunities to experiment with units, abilities, and tactics, making replayability one of the game's biggest strengths. Army customization is another major highlight. Players are given extensive control over how their forces are assembled, from selecting leaders and specialized units to adjusting visual details like army colors. This feature captures one of the most enjoyable aspects of physical miniature gaming: creating an army that reflects personal preferences and tactical philosophies. Whether building an aggressive force focused on overwhelming enemies or a defensive formation designed to outlast opponents, the customization tools provide ample room for creativity. The growing roster of factions and additional content further expands the possibilities, ensuring that long-term players always have something new to explore. SOVL also offers both single-player and multiplayer experiences, allowing players to test their armies against AI-controlled opponents or challenge others online. Multiplayer is where the game's depth becomes most apparent, as human opponents are often more inventive and unpredictable than any computer-controlled force. At the same time, AI battles serve as an excellent training ground for newcomers looking to understand the rules and refine their strategies. Combined with achievement support and cloud saves, the game provides a solid package despite its relatively modest presentation. Visually, SOVL adopts a straightforward style that prioritizes clarity over extravagance. Unit designs and battlefields are functional, making it easy to track the flow of combat without unnecessary distractions. The game's low system requirements are another notable advantage, allowing it to run comfortably on a wide range of hardware configurations. While players expecting cutting-edge visuals may find the presentation somewhat basic, it aligns well with the title's tabletop-inspired identity and reinforces its focus on gameplay above all else. Ultimately, SOVL: Fantasy Warfare succeeds because it remains committed to its vision. It does not attempt to reinvent fantasy strategy gaming; instead, it refines and celebrates the traditions that inspired it. Its combination of tactical combat, procedural campaigns, deep customization, and multiplayer support creates an experience that will particularly resonate with fans of miniature wargames and old-school strategy titles. Although its slower pace and reliance on dice mechanics may not appeal to everyone, those willing to embrace its design philosophy will find a rewarding and highly replayable battlefield waiting for them. Rating: 8/10
At least give a tutorial mode, there no way to understand and you control a small flag with out 3D model or 2D character imagine.
I only played a few minutes. Would have been nice to have some kind of instructions. not very intuitive. since it was free, just sort of gave up on the game since I couldn't figure out how to do much.
рекомендовать? ну разумеется рекомендовать! это действительно очень хороший пример достойной стратегической игры с вайбом вархаммер фентези батл.
It's just literally Warhammer Fantasy Battle
